I don't quite get why the GB crew loves Pushmo, but was luke-warm on Catherine. They're both very similar games. (with Catherine being the far better one)

Pushmo is a $A13 downloadable. Katherine is a full priced retail disc.

I use the stamps to draw over them. It was pretty funny in 3D World.

We gotta push the Pushmo characters for Smash Bros! I never really looked at the Pushmo games before, but they seem pretty cute and look fun to play.

A Pushmo stage would also be great. You wouldn't have three levels, but you'd have the stage moving in and out removing and creating platforms.

Pushmo is a $A13 downloadable. Katherine is a full priced retail disc.

But their criticism of the puzzle aspects of Catherine had nothing to do with pricing, so that's a moot point to make when discussing gameplay enjoyment. Judging by this quicklook, this just looks less demanding overall. And Catherine did had the aspect of it that it wasn't just a collection of puzzles, but a story where you had to play the puzzles to proceed. And it sounded at the time like they simply didn't click with the way Catherine handled the puzzle side of things (and they were, some of them at least) pretty luke-warm on the story as well.

As someone not having played Pushmo before, my mind instantly made this an "Easy Catherine-Type Puzzle Game".

Ah yes another forum "no-it-all" trying to project their superiority on others. Thank you for disregarding my valid point a moot. Catherine was a puzzle game that hooked the player with a series of cut scenes of a mature, sexual nature and cooky nature. It didn't live up to mantel of Persona which is why people weren't interested.

@ptys: Your point isn't valid because the reason they (I base my point on Jeff's review) were luke-warm of Catherine had little to do with it's pricing as a full game. Which is what the person you replied you were questioning; the crew's affection or lack thereof in regards to either game despite the similarities in the puzzle type. And I'm neither a know it all or trying to project my supposed superiority on you, I'm just saying I don't think your point is a valid.

Well its a common theme in the forums where people almost talk over the top of others. Its better to just say "in my opinion" cause lets face it every point can be debated, no one's ever 100% right, not even Jeff... especially not Jeff.

I was thinking a similar thing. They're not identical games, but they're similar enough that it did occur to me. Catherine was a really good game that deserved a better reception than it got. Kinda seemed like people disliked it basically because it wasn't Persona and the puzzles had the audacity to be a bit challenging.

Never seen a Pushmo game before. Looks cool, but I'm not all that into puzzles games...or the Wii U.

Yeah, good point. They're both games that feature blocks, so obviously they're immediately comparable and similar in every facet.

He didn't say they are comparable and similar in every facet... He said they are similar games, which is totally true. Both Pushmo and Catherine are conceptually quite similar, with the main part of the game being pushing and pulling blocks in order to ascend the level and get to the finish. It's just Catherine did it better. That was mostly just a case of Jeff being Jeff though.

But to say that he doesn't understand why the crew was lukewarm on Catherine is an incredibly bone-headed statement. All it takes is a split-second glance to see that, while they both feature block puzzles, they are entirely different games, narratively and atmospherically. Pushmo is a bright, fun, cutesy, relaxing experience whereas Catherine was personal and stressful and designed to make the player feel pressured and uncomfortable.

They're similar in one way and that's that they both feature blocks that are to be played with. That's it. Literally everything else is a 180-degree difference, night-and-day.

The "Pulling Teeth" Pushmo making fun of Luis Suarez is even more hilarious given that he just bit a guy again
