Brad: "I didn't know there was a hold option in this game."
Jeff: "I would've figured the big empty box marked Hold would tell you that."

Jeff saying what we're all thinking.

Genuinely painful to watch. Good Quick Look!

I bought the Japanese version on Switch and after seeing this I am happy with my decision.

Hmmm. Seriously considering cancelling my pre-order for PS4 and buying the Japanese version instead. The voices in Adventure mode actually gave me a little bit of a headache.

I don't think I've played a Puyo Puyo game since Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES. I'm so excited to pick this game up!

If the hold feature confounded him, just imagine how blown Brad's mind will be once he finds out you can rotate pieces in two directions.

Jeff: "Hold, it's R1"

Brad: "I don't know how to hold"

Brad: "Oh, it's R1"

Not at all how that exchange went. Jeff told him about the hold mechanic and said it was a trigger, Brad tried a trigger and it didn't work, and then Jeff's clarification and Brad's realization came at the same time a few minutes later.

I hate the theme of this game. Its like a cheesy CG kids show.

Tetris should be in a better game.

I found it delightfully wholesome. This is a great game to pick up fro your kid. Which sounds weird in contrast to my previous comment.

Want to see how this runs on the Switch.

The demo runs like a charm. Only downside is the more expensive price on Switch, but the portability is a real bonus for playing Tetris/Puyo Puyo.

I owned the Japanese version of Puyo Puyo Tetris in the Switch. I can confirm that it runs like a charm. Playing multiplayer with the single joy-con feel really good too, it's just that the screen can be really small in multiplayer (even in two players). So TV screen is really recommended.

@sodapop7: And Brad just picked up on a part of that unclear sentence, having to concentrate on talking and playing a game and entertaining at the same time. It's not like Jeff was 1000% straight and it's not like Brad was totally paying attention. Comments that just rag on the crew missing cues bother me because not only is it a completely inconsequential thing that happens to everyone who plays games in a group setting, it also comes with the implication that the person pointing it out wouldn't make the same mistakes.

Quoted for truth. I have both the Japanese and English demos on my Switch, and it saddens me greatly that they re-recorded those voices for this release...

Man I really wish Sega or whomever it would be could bring THIS over to PC. I mean, we have tons of Tetris games at this point even on PC - but pretty sure we've never gotten a Puyo Puyo game or any mix of said games on PC. Would be great, especially since this looks super fun and sooooo cute.

That weird wooshy sound when they cleared lines in the last Big Bang mode were straight out of Streets of Rage 2, when you punch that weird floating alien thing in the carnival level (just slightly higher pitched).

I've played too much Streets of Rage 2.

Dangit, was really hoping they'd quick look the Switch version. Much more interested in seeing, and hearing their commentary on that. I'd think the Switch version is THE definitive one by default, right?

What makes you say that? As a switch owner I don't see what makes that the best version. The last time I played Tetris I think was on a gameboy in the late 80s so I am only curious why you feel that way.

So, what? You want a post-apocalyptic Tetris? A modern military one? This complaint seems baffling to me considering Tetris doesn't have a style of its own.

Also, this is one of the best games Tetris has ever been in.

@paulunga: To me, this looks like a Tetris game that's trapped in an Anime.

I immensely enjoyed the aesthetic of The New Tetris in N64 and the Tetris DS game that came out near launch I believe.

Also, what makes this one of the best Tetris games? If you remove the Puyo Puyo portion, it looks similar to the version of Tetris that EA put out years ago. ( Which was a solid version of Tetris from what I recall.)

Man, this just looks great on every level, from all the different gameplay to the silly anime, slapstick story. Hopefully, I'd be able to set all the different puyos to colors I can clearly distinguish from each other.

Either way, I'm so stoked that I can finally buy it!

@steveurkel: I say that Switch must be the difinitive version because of its built in, always ready to go multiplayer capabilities. Seems like the perfect game to take advantage of that. PLUS it's on the go! I think the Switch version's higher price tag is justified for those reasons.

I'm having a hard time grasping the fact that I can not buy a digital copy of this game for PS4. Is it really true? There must be some sort of misunderstanding here, right?

In Brad's defense, his score was higher even though Jeff beat him -- Puyo seems easier than Tetris to me; if i had to compete picking one id always Puyo! (I bought this but haven't played yet, maybe I will change my tune!?)

**edit - watching Jeff play later, it seems Tetris might just score quicker?

It loses a lot of it's charm by having the (completely unnecessary I should add) dubs for the voices, I mean, no more "TETORIS!"

Games like these all the have to do is translate the text, period.

No Caption Provided

They were playing on a PS4 NotBrad. A button that has a strict "Pressed | Not Pressed" state can't be "too sensitive" in a specific game. That's like if someone said the SNES's B button was easier to physically press than the other face buttons in Contra.

Besides, the concept of a button that exists solely to drop a block as fast as possible being "too sensitive" is mind bending.
