I didn't realize King of Fighters had some of the new Metal Slug characters in it. Ralf even has the same hurricane punch in Metal Slug 6.

Goddamn it's nice to have 1 dude that is moderately interested in fighting games and another dude that is super in to fighters to review all these fighting games and systems intense character action games. Jason, welcome to the team =)

Having Jason as a second person who actually enjoys fighters goes a long way for this quicklook. Would love to see the two of them revisit some of my old favorites like CvS2 and 3rd Strike.

I played one of these games at an airport as a kid and this one time a lady fighter's top and pants came off. It was a pretty important moment for me personally.

2nd favorite SNK game.

My first love, and the one that got me into the series way late, was SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos. My small town never really got the SNK games besides what I could find on the SNES (Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting) and our town never got any King of Fighter. So I found SVC Chaos through the university arcade. So much fun. Even more fun when I found out how to unlock Zero from Mega Man X, or the Martian guy. Final boss was still bullshit.

As for KoF '98 - I gotta go with Terry, Kim, and Takuma. Takuma is dirty with his surprise run grab and that thousand punch move that sucks people in like a black hole. I always liked the idea of Iori, but couldn't really get his move set down.

King of Fighters '99 and Mortal Kombat 2 are the two fighting games that I ever managed to get into. in KoF I remember really liking Iori, Mai, and K' (or whatever his name was). I also remember thinking the story was cool yet confusing, and barely being good enough to beat the game once after a LOT of attempts.

Would love to see an ongoing feature of Jeff and Jason checking out classic fighting games.

Still love the Dreamcast version of this game with cd quality music and the anime intro featuring a fight between Iori and Kyo. This is the best KOF that SNK ever put together, this, Streetfighter Alpha 2 Gold and Vampire Savior are my favourite fighters, always hoped we would get a follow up to Capcom vs SNK 2 but alas...

@davivmcd: Yeah of course. It is not meant to be a slight against the site in any way. I do not expect them to tailor their content to me specifically. I was just noting that they had quick looked a lot of fighting games that week and that those do not personally appeal to me.

This may sound weird, but I always liked King of Fighters more than Street Figher. Maybe because that's what I played first.

I played Street Fighter first of those (my very first fighting game was Sango Fighter though), and I also prefer King of Fighters despite not really being into fighting games.

OH MY GOD SOMEONE ELSE WHO HAS PLAYED SANGO FIGHTER THIS CAN'T BE REAL

I think it was pretty much the only fighting game on PC back in the early 90's? Not sure which year that poor Street Fighter 2 port was released, but I don't remember ever seeing it back in the day. So until the PC version of Virtua Fighter 2 was released, Sango Fighter was the only fighting game I had access to at home.

Holy crap, I completely forgot I've played that game. The name instantly rung true to me, and some googling later, yep, I sure did play that on our old PC. Sango Fighter, Body Blows, Street Fighter 2... and some really terrible old game I only had the demo of. Such was my fighting game experience back when my family only had a PC and a Master System. Then along game my friend with Mortal Kombat 2 on his Genesis and everything changed forever.

I just googled the terrible game and it was Timeslaughter. I don't know how it could possibly look worse than I remember...

Whoa, yeah, that doesn't look good. Sango Fighter wasn't the best looking fighting game of that era by any means, but I still think there's something charming about it's art style. It was also my introduction to the legendary Lü Bu.
