There have been a lot of quick looks of bad games lately.

Hmm, I've never played Majora's Mask and I'm planning on playing this incarnation. Should I watch the Quick Look? Hrm...

Looking forward to someone who enjoys video games trying to convince those who clearly don't that Majora is, in fact, a good game.

It was foretold in the stones, that the holy Ryckert would show the non-believer Brad how awesome of a game Majora's Mask is.

"If you play it right..." That's a red flag right there, a game shouldn't require a specific play style, order or whatnot to be enjoyable. Also the character designs really do not hold up, come to think of it the characters in Ocarina are pretty fugly too.

Also Dan seems completely incapable of separating himself from nostalgia, guess its just more of his "magical thinking". Just tells himself this thing he loved is still great and he'll believe it till his grave. Guess he got rose-colored cornea implants when he got Lasik.

I'm with Jeff on this one, fuck this game.

Great game. Much better than Dota 2. Excellent stuff.

Even having two dungeons under my belt currently, I realized a couple of minutes into this quicklook that there's still a bunch of houses I haven't even visited. I'm gonna get on that and come back to this later.

yeah still hate majora not even 3D can save this game for me tried to play it again still so do not like it.

most people either have unhealthy love for this game or they hate it there no middle ground

Is this worth buying if I'd be using a old-model 3DS?

You are able to save at owl statues in the original Majora's Mask though. Or at least the Gamecube port.

@brad@danryckert you could totally save mid cycle in the N64 version but you would have to do it at an owl statue. You would have to bail out of a dungeon and go to one to save and quit. Once you reloaded the game it would 'erase' that save until you saved again at a statue. If you just turned it off and didn't save it would boot you back to day 1. A lot of people have been getting this wrong when talking about this remake.

In the remake you still have to go to a statue to save, but the save isn't erased. Alternatively, you can just shut the 3ds to suspend it which I've done the entire time I've played. The remake just added more save points that don't also act as warp statues.

Does Ocarina 3D have camera control with the other stick?

Such an utterly fantastic game.

I will never understand people's distaste for Majora's Mask. I found it to be an incredibly stressful game (I hate time pressure in games in general), and I would probably never play it a second time, but it's goddamn brilliant all the same. I don't care what anyone says. A game doesn't necessarily have to be all happy go fun times all the time to be great, in the same way that there are amazing movies I would never watch again because they were actually unpleasant to get through and they shook me to my fucking core. Ocarina may be an objectively better and more fun game, but playing Majora's was a far more impactful and surreal experience for me. It was scary, stressful, fascinating, and strange. It was like being thrust into someone else's nightmare and having to learn the rules. Nothing I've played since has come anywhere close to giving me that "Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole" feeling.

EDIT: Since I'll *probably* never play this again, maybe @danryckert can convince the rest of the office to let him do an endurance run type series with it? He has a rep for beating Zelda games pretty quickly. Think about it.

The Zelda games are about exploring and solving puzzles. Typically this is done in a 3D space. Majora's Mask applies those same principles towards exploring chronological space as well. The persistence and constant continuity in each recursion allows one to explore events sequentially, even though they're in practice taking place concurrently. Progression is marked in the acquisition of items, upgrades, and masks that can be brought back to when / where they shouldn't really "be". It's a neat way to approach the Zelda progression. Personally, I'm rather a fan of it.

That being said, I can understand why it'd also bother people given the time constraints are always deliberately looming and sometimes frustrating if you manage time incorrectly, and the fact that your actions are essentially erased during each loop makes accomplishments feel somewhat unsatisfactory.

This would have been perfect if it was Dan,Jeff,and Brad. I'm sure that would be one entertaining Quick Look.

You were totally able to save at the owl statues in the original. The feather statues are the new thing.

I dismissed this game when it came out, well, because I was really young and it wasn't a OoT clone. Now I'm not. Just another great game that Jeff dismisses as trash and his flock of minions mindlessly agree. Thanks for being the voice of reason here Dan.

One preview image later and I'm whistling Kamaro's Song for days. I've played this game once, about ten years ago, and I feel like it will never ever leave me. Such an impactful experience... too bad it's so unforgiving, a lot of people will never get through it...

So it begins...Dan has 3 days to convince the rest of the crew of the brilliance of Majora's Mask before the giant face of Jeff crushes San Francisco and all the copies of the game therein....Dawn of the first day...

I dunno what all the controversy is all about. This game looks fucking cool.

Hmm, there's something that's lost with the new graphics. Everything being fuzzy and low-poly just makes it creepier and moodier. Sort of like how when you emulate Silent Hill 1 at high res it's just not the same.

Now, then. Didn't OoT3D feature a remixed soundtrack? I didn't play it, but I thought that it did. Was curious because MM3D is using the original music.

The only 3D Zelda game I've ever beat is Wind Waker. Never owned Ocarina of Time on N64 then bought the 3DS version and kinda just got bored with it. I thought Twilight Princess was really boring and I basically didn't play any Skyward Sword. I rented this game once and got stuck almost immediately so I returned it. But it's been the one that I actually want to try and get through.
