certainly looks like an upgrade from the ace combat series to me

Texture quality and polygon count seem a bit off but I guess that's normal for the type of pre-release build they are playing.

Also, assistance OFF is ridiculous for multiplayer, because you can't win without it. In fact, assistance OFF is ridiculous in general, because you'd probably end up crashing your plane just trying to get it to work.

No comments on that compass not moving in the cockpit EVER!

A friend of mine showed me some of the Ace Combat games, if I would ever play a game like this it'd probably be one of those instead.

I loved the first Hawx.  I might get this. 

Why would they go and take out the only thing that distinguished H.A.W.X. from every other flight sim game out there the crazy system off mode, it made the 1st game more of a frenzied arcade flight shooter along the lines of Snoopy and Crimson Skies, (minus those games awesome maps) rather then a straight play at the  boredom of a lock on missile, meaning your dead every time someone gets tone due to the missile being way more manuverable then the plane you are in could ever be. Disappointment and sadness...

This game looks kinda boring, but that crazy 3rd-person view is super interesting. Certainly seems infinitely more fun than the traditional "your target is vaguely off-screen. Keep spinning around; you might catch up soon" crap. More games with that kind of ambition would be nice. 
 
I'll stick with After Burner Climax in the meantime.

This is cool and all, but I really wish somebody would make another modern air combat flight simulator. Lock On is the only recent one, and it is already like 8 years old.

That refuelling sequence was probably one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

Okay, I noticed a few things.
 

• When holding a knife edge, i couldnt see any drop happening.
• Would two helicopters really fly that close together?
• Did that guy shoot an RPG out of an M4?

Got a great laugh out of watching Ryan refuel that plane. Good job guys.

I liked the first game, and this looks pretty decent too. I never bought the original though, just a rental, so I think I will probably do the same here. I am interested to see more, particularly what, if any, improvements there are over the original. To be honest, I didn't see any in this.

 If only there were an Independence Day game, just one level but thousands of alien ships and a giant mother ship to kill, only one plane to fly, and only four missiles to carry....

It might just be me and my Australian ways with the metric system and all, but my understanding is that 700 MPH is really quite fast (1126 KPH if I remember correctly). I'm not sure you could do a bombing run without slowing down a little, or even dog fight with other jets. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Argh.. worst cockpit view ever.. (the freeflying camera looked cool though) Not a big fan of flight combat games in general  so my opinion might be alittle bias, but I can apreciate a sense of speed and chaos that this game really isnt delivering.

I always thought you broke the sound barrier at 700mph, so yeah dogfighting at that speed is a bit ridiculous ;p

I've played most of the Ace Combat games so I'm used to this type of game, but that 3rd person view looked pretty damn crazy and that's a good thing.

Oh my god, please yaw left and right, not roll everytime

Didn't really like the party piece that HAWX had as it just felt weird, much prefered the Ace Combat series. Seems they removed it here tho and focused on making the game more functional, so may check it out.

intense refueling session

It's looking good, but I wish a game could really master scaling of the land

The biggest problem I have with the Tom Clancy's series is that it goes for 24-style colorbalancing every single time! There's nothing a non-overcast Earth atmosphere can do to turn white mountaintops yellow-green. :| 
 
I'd still play it, given the opportunity -- but I'd vastly prefer another Ace Combat, honestly.

Ryan seriously needs to learn how to use his rudder.

Looks really neat, I think I'm going to rent it at some point.

So I guess flying games must SUCK if you never use the rudder controls.
