Jeff introduced Drox Operative to us 2-3 years ago and this looks like a decent game for the 2d space genre alongside Space Pirates & Zombies, Star Sector and Space Rangers.

I'm a sucker for these types of games; I'll have to give it a try.

The patch yesterday (and specifically todays) fixed those sorts of freeze ups that Jeff had at the start. Just sayin :)

Someone else mentioned Drox Operative which fits as well. I glanced through my Steam library real quick and it looks like I was thinking of Galactic Arms Race.

Escape Velocity was the first thing that came to my mind as well! I still remember playing that for months on end, since all I had to play on was a Mac and games were few and far between on that. I even remember Captain Hector who showed up to kill you when you didn't register the game. I was pretty proud of 13 year old, internet-less me figuring out how to mess around with the game files to have his gun do zero damage so I could play uninterrupted.

The fact that this games seems pretty unstable and the different flight system (there is friction in this one so you slow down if you don't keep thrusting, which was not the case in EV) does concern me somewhat though. I'll keep it on my Steam watch list to see if improvements are made. But since the other game that would scratch that itch, Star Sector, probably won't be out for many years to come, I do hope that a revival in this genre is imminent!

This game seems cool. I really liked Drox Operative and SPaZ and this seem a lot like both of those so I think I'll buy this.

I'm a real sucker for these types of games. There was one I used to play on C64 if I recall correctly, but I can't remember...Maybe it was on x86. Anyway, I just crave this sort of nostalgia.
