Omg thank you gents for giving me (yet another) reason to finally play through this classic. How I missed this game being an OG Xbox and Bioware fan is beyond me...

I also vaguely remember reading some book in the expanded universe (all of which are now non-canon) that if a non-force user tried wielding a lightsaber they would end up cutting themselves up because they wouldn't be able to control it somehow.

Oh my god, yes. One of my all time favourites. After the void left by Mass Alex' end, I definitely needed this in my life, please do a full play through!

Well, KotOR2 was never finished. And that's really the only knock against it. It may not be the best GAME I ever played, but it has the best story. If you've ever liked an Obsidian game you owe it to yourself to play it.

Haven't read all the comments so I apologise if this is this is a repeat but I bought this game on Xbox day one and 3 discs in a row had game breaking bugs. 4th disc was fine. Literally from the same shop and on the same day, was I just unlucky or was it a wide spread thing?

I hope this becomes a series. I would also advise. Manual Save Often. If I remember the auto-saves in this game suck and can put you back hours if you die.

If you play again, please do something to make the text bigger. It's just unreadably small for me and there's an awful lot of it. Even if it means playing in a lower resolution it would really make it easier to watch.

I'm very excited at the prospect of this series! Vinny and Alex have been a great pairing, and I really enjoyed Mass Alex. I agree with @neely that I hope the Beaster's go through this as well as Kotor2.

Personally, I think this game is one of the best games ever. And, despite the issues, I think the sequel is absolutely worth playing too. As others have said, it helps to use the Restoration Mod, though.

That said, Kotor 2, in my opinion, has the most compelling story I've ever seen in the Star Wars universe. Excited to see Vinny and Alex dig into this wonderful story.

I would love to watch this on the TV but that text is completely unreadable. I know you're doing the best you can with what old software provides but I hope you can figure some way to improve that.

Those thinking this game may be a bit overhyped aren't really wrong, but they're also missing context a bit. Remember this came out between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith when original Star Wars fans were pretty damn annoyed with the direction of the franchise. Lots of people latched on to Kotor as the best thing to happen in Star Wars fiction since the original trilogy.

Certainly a debatable opinion if you were into the extended universe at the time, but I'd agree that it's better than anything George Lucas was doing.

Ever since I had the big, cool twist of this game spoiled for me, I've never had the drive to actually finish it. Oh, well. The Vinny/Alex Combo is top tier, so (maybe) I'll experience this game and it's ending with them (rather than via a very poorly written and seemingly deliberately spoiler-laden guide); that's almost like getting the time I spent with the game back! ...Right?
Edit: Added a single parenthetical after learning this is maybe, certainly, perhaps not a full playthrough.

@frytup: I still think this is one of the best star wars video games out there. I'd love a modernized star wars rpg but it's so niche for such a mainstream property.

@sakuno: Damn kids. Get off my Kotor. It's a lot better written then Biowares last few games. Maybe not quite as good as the Witcher 3.

@bbackguitar: Oh, sure. I'd even happily take a remaster of Kotor 1 & 2, but that would be so much work it probably doesn't make sense.

I have a real fondness for this game. This game has a real fondness for it's tedious dialog, which I was fond of skipping after the 50th extra 10 seconds of 'hey look we're on infinite DVD storage' dialog from a vendor/quest giver.

It's mostly the intro thats like that - it feels like they didnt quite know how to tutorialize that stuff well. The writing improves pretty much the second you land on Taris.

Gotta say big meh for this from me. This game is -fine- but y'all already played Mass Effect I wasn't really looking for more of this, especially in what's largely a step back. I'd be excited to see you two play something completely different from that. I hope this is a one off I am really not interested in a playthrough of this game in 2021.

This bit about context is pretty key. It's easy to forget (and maybe it wasn't the same everywhere) but for a long time Star Wars was a deeply uncool thing to be into due in large part to the prequels being god awful. This whole Marvel era has normalised liking nerdy shit quite a lot but in the early 2000s back then to get a big videogame following on from content based on the Dark Horse comics with covers like this using a D&D style ruleset? It was really exciting for the tragics.

As an aside and to illustrate there has always been good Star Wars and shitty Star Wars co-existing I just realised Jedi Outcast came out the same year as Attack of the Clones.

The other thing to remember is, this is BioWare pre-Mass Effect. So, it lays serious groundwork for what many now consider to be the prototypical BioWare party RPG.

FWIW, I loved this game when it came out...I have owned it on every platform it has ever appeared on (including Amazon Fire TV), and I replay it at least once per year...so my opinion on this game is absolutely biased.

This game was great at the time, but I think the combat system definitely does not hold up. I wouldn't blame them for dumping it just because playing through the combat is a huge slog. Vinny is right that this is directly based off of 3rd edition D&D, which means that you can kinda screw up your character build a little more easily than in Mass Effect.
