I'm still not sold by this game.

Roleplaying as pirates is enough for me.

Until there's more to the game than just "Be a pirate," totally not interested. And I don't understand how people are so hyped for this game at this point. This is No Man's Sky all over again.

Cruising around the seven seas with a bunch of friends dicking around seems relaxing and fun.

This seems potentially interesting, if I had three friends that wanted to play the game with me at the times that I was available to play it.

I can't imagine that playing it with strangers would be much fun; unless you got absurdly lucky with the matchmaking system (assuming there even is one).

This is the 5th QL in a row that was 30 minutes or under. Are the Quick Looks becoming...Quick?

Lol the wind lines are sorta like Wind Waker? They looked identical to me honestly. But I guess that's the easiest way to show which way the wind is going.

There is a goal to the game though. Finding treasure and bringing it back for gold, either through exploration and stealing it from other ships.

I played a bunch of the alpha and can say that it is really fun, lots of good stories.

Looks awesome. Combat looked a bit Skyrim, though..

Might be cool if you actually had to look at which way the flags/mast/players' clothes were blowing, but that kind of realism probably wouldn't mesh well with the cartoony aesthetic.

This seems backwards. I would think you'd know what kind of game you want to make before you start making it. So it's basically aimless right now? Water looks great though.

Yes the ship of the damned is both a respawn timer and a place to meet your recent foes. That way when pirates are capturing a ship via boarding you can't just respawn and defend it immediately.

Being good enough for YOU definitely sounds like a reason Bathala should buy the game

Man, this game looks incredible - I really hope they are able to make something good out of this.

The only way I could see this being interesting to me is if they have a MMO type world with tons of people around, which I can kind of see happening with those graphics.

As someone who doesn't even have an xbox [mostly pc here] something about this is making me want to buy one.... but I need to see more of this game... not sure enough about what you do in it and how much it requires a group of friends [of which I have none].

Been playing STAR TREK bridge crew with randoms recently and realised people who buy games actually want to play so all the experiences have been fun and engaging! This will be the same for the fans but if you're forced to play you're gonna have a bad time...

It's unfortunate that there's so much misunderstanding in this video. Some corrections: Smaller ships have been confirmed and I'm pretty sure they've said no levels. Progression is based on customization for you and your ship. The UI is minimalist on purpose to avoid clutter and there are multiple outposts to return treasure to and interact with NPC's.

Rare have been really open about the game and there's a lot of information in the (semi) monthly podcasts and their YouTube channel. Maybe I've just been paying too much attention to the game.

This seems like a really cool foundation for a game, I hope they add some good mechanics and goals on top of it rather than it just being simply 'go explore'.

I used to love to play the game "Puzzle Pirates" which this game vaguely reminds me of as far as requiring multiple people cooperating in different roles to successfully sail a ship. That game had a lot of MMO mechanics like hauling cargo, trading, opening and managing shops, a robust economy, naval blockades and territorial warfare. If you were playing by yourself you could join someone else's crew and get paid a wage for helping them haul or pirate. I hope this game will have some mechanics like that and the ships have a purpose as more than just transportation between islands to kill mobs and get loot. The combat seems like the weakest aspect of what they've shown so far.

To be fair Griffin was able to play with his brother and Austin, both people he knew. Brad didn't make it sound like he knew any of the journalists he played with, so he didn't get to do as much goofing around as they did. I think the real pull of this game is going to be just that, goofing around role-playing pirates with your buddies while you sail around hunting for treasure.

This is kinda where I'm at with the game too. I can't imagine playing with randos will be any fun. Maybe if enough people on GB get it we can join a crew. Is that how this game works? I don't even know.

If you copy/paste links into YouTube comments they often get marked as Spam and hidden until someone goes through and reviews them. This rarely happens super-quickly, though.

This just makes me want to play Guns of Icarus and Sid Meyer's Pirates.

This doesn't look good. Looks like they're using the Everquest Next Landmark engine, I know they aren't, but similar style. I don't like it.

The only thing that I truly enjoyed about this game so far was Ride of the Valkyries being played on an accordion.

As usual, the comments confuse me. Goals? Why are gamers obsessed with being led by the nose like a lost child? People are bringing up No Man's Sky... but No Man's Sky wasn't bad because it lacked goals, it was bad because it was boring, tedious, grindy and pointless. And I don't mean pointless as in it lacked goals (you had at least one major goal) I mean pointless in that there was nothing going on in the game to promote fun.

In this game, the fun is clear: Go with your friends, find some treasure, kill other players, steal ships, solve puzzles, navigate as a team, the fun, if the game turns out good, comes from the act of playing it.

I know that's scary to "goalfreaks," but simply having fun IS likely the goal! Sometimes it's fun to do something fun.

I'm definitely still excited for this game!

The skipping around on the video is really jarring for someone watching, and particularly so without being able to see the progress bar, fyi.

The combat looks very basic and unresponsive (Rorie said it best when he likened it to Skyrim) and the lighting of the world makes the graphics look crude and lacking an artistic vision. The water looks nice though and in theory, boating around in a SQUAD looking for booty and ganking other people doing the same could be fun.

On the other hand, if it's such a pain to get anywhere with your ship and then potentially going home with nothing because some twats ambushed you, that'd be the last time I started this game up.

I... never even thought of this but it must've actually been that way, at least on huge ships of the line. And I thought my job was stressful. Yeesh.

Getting No Man's Sky vibes from this due to the lack of details of structures and how basic some of these systems look to be (combat is inexcusably dull for 2017 standards). Then again, maybe if No Man's Sky was multiplayer people wouldn't mind its shortcomings so much. There's a lot of cool ideas so hopefully it pans out. I appreciate the cheerful, cartoon style and tone.
