Unfinished: World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor (Beta) 09/19/2014

Rorie gives Brad and Dan a glimpse of what the next several hundred hours of his life is going to be like.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

Rorie, you need to educate yourself about details if you're gonna lead the QL. Can't just say "I don't know" at every question.

This might be the thing to get me back into the game, at least for a bit. I still don't think WoW can ever be as significant as it was back when it took months to level up and get your mount and stuff though. As a non-power leveler who didn't really go out of his way to level quickly and just sort of organically went through the game at my own pace, I find the game as it is now lacking of a journey. It seems like it's all destination. But the instant 90 might be a good way to finally check out the end game content. I was never leveled far enough to check that stuff out, I was usually 1.5-2 expansions behind.

@ilikeost said:

I don't want to be an asshole but Rorie doesn't know much for someone who apparenly spent vast ammounts of time with this game. He is constantly giving wrong information about very basic things, it was more obvious in the "30 day trial" videos but it's still happening in this one.

Speaking of impotent rage...

He not only never claims to be an expert, but has been pretty clear about how often, how attentively, and with what priorities he plays WoW.

I don't want to be an asshole, but for someone who's giving Rorie crap for not being an expert when talking about WoW, you don't seem to pay much attention to what Rorie says when he talks about WoW.

In true Giantbomb coverage fashion. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, etc. I stopped coming here for a reason, first video reminded me why.

@cornbredx: I gotta disagree with you about the talent trees, with Pandaria they made the talent trees actually interesting and meaningful.

Prior to that, you had big complex talent trees that had one clear best way to build. You went to Elitist Jerks and copied the best build for your role from there. There was really no personal choices unless you wanted to play handicapped. And good luck raiding if you did that.

With Pandaria, they removed all that and boiled it down to fewer but more significant choices. Now you have 3 choices that all address a mobility issue, or survivability issue, in different ways. Almost all of them are viable depending on personal preference. They traded the illusion of complexity for actual meaningful choices. The only thing that feels bad is that in vanilla wow you got talent points often enough that it made levels feel a little bit more fun, but now its a lot more fun with bigger gaps between them.

In a way, it sorta reminds me of D2 vs D3. A lot of people loved the illusion of complexity from D2, but D3 was actually a way more interesting system because of the flexibility.

Was surprised how upbeat and curious Dan and Brad were throughout, usually can count on Giantbomb MMO quicklooks to be a snooze fest where the guys sound like they want to kill themselves. It almost sounded like Brad was tempted to play again.

I'm pretty sure that the quantity of Brad's Dota references in non related content have surpassed Dan's wrestling references, and that is fucking terrifying.

Im not sure if its always applicable but when Dan has done a lot of quick looks i have seen he is very good at giving lots of pertinent info about the given game he is covering when he is the one running the quick look so much so that it was instantly noticeable how professional he was about it. Just my two cents.

He also seems to actually spend a fair amount of time with all of them before starting a QL, which is pretty helpful as well.

@onkel: I was amused at the jail break section when the objectives were to destroy the stones or whatever, and instead of like, banging away on them or doing something cool to do that, you just click on it and the status bar says "Destroying" as it fills up and then you're done. Maybe that's just for the beta, but at some point things have gotten out of hand.

It sounds to me like some horrible amalgamation of World of Warcraft and Dungeons of Dreadmor.

They can't 'change' the timeline, because it would obliterate Outland - and people still need to be able to level from 60-68. It's a branching timeline thing, where Draenor splits into two places as soon as Garrosh arrives. I have no idea how the Dark Portal will work in terms of which Outland you end up in.

It also allows for crazy things like characters having twins, and the fact that there are probably two A'dals now, and two Khadgars. One can assume most of the older Draenei now have long lost clones in 'new' Draenor, as well. And no, Illidan Stormrage is not back - this Draenor is from before he (or anyone from WC3) ever went there. From what I remember of the timeline, it seems like the Alliance heroes shouldn't even be there - since they went in AFTER Warcraft: Tides of Darkness, not before the orcs ever came out the first time.

Reading up on Siege of Orgrimmar (MoP patch 5.4) makes it much clearer just why this happens, and why a certain group of bronze dragons don't put a stop to the whole thing. Worth youtubing if you're not a raider.

Finally the scariest part of the whole thing. What if the Aldor elevator returns to murder us all over again? Deadliest thing in TBC.

@scarycrayons: I want to play as every race and every class(except death knight) and I am not rushing through the game. I probably would be done with every class on both horde and alliance if I was speeding through the game, but I'm not doing that.

After their encounter with "Garrison Ford", I was a little upset that they didn't come across a placeholder NPC that would have been even more Dan-appropriate.

Would love to see some check-ins with Rorie in the weeks and months after this launches - kind of a follow-up to 30 Day Trial, but on the other end of the WoW spectrum.

Ugh I really want to get back into WoW after watching this. There aren't a ton of console games that are exciting me right now so I could go for a month or so leveling my 80 warlock up to the level cap. I think I also got a Death Knight to 80 but I wasn't much feeling it. I'd love to see what Alterac Valley is like at 100. Thanks for the video.

Given gbs track record on MMOS, people really shouldn't be surprised by misinformation in their qls anymore. Remember the Wildstar video?

Still nice to see them do this. Most big mmo folks will probably already know where they are wrong anyway, it's just nice to see some coverage

Neat video but I wish they'd asked someone else to do this besides Rorie. The constant "ums.." and "uhs.." and "I'm not really X but I think this is how it is?" made it really annoying to listen to. Takes like 10 minutes to research all the basic stuff to inform the viewer and for being so excited about the video Rorie doesn't seem to know a lot about the features to really inform.

Also if you think Flying Mounts are anythign to be upset about I hate you, they make the world feel empty and turns it into a single player adventure. :(

This isn't an Unfinished EX, they can't be expected to know everything about the game.

Yeah was wondering this too, is that a player or the most annoying AI ever? Right on his ass.

I never realized how Wow isn't really a game anymore, it's a themepark. Everything from the flying pink rocket, motorcycles, blizzcon flags, it's just an insufferable game to someone like me that loves Warcraft 1 and 2.

As a theme park though, it seems pretty cool. Going back to Warcraft 1 type stuff would be amazing, if they didn't theme park it all up, so I was actually interested in hearing about what they plan to do, and it is interesting, it's just not the Warcraft I knew. I know it's dumb to get up in arms about some second/third hand ripped off lore, but Gul'dan, the clans, the Dark Portal, those invoke some pretty amazing images in my head that are just being blasted here.

edit: So it was Grom that went back in time? Isn't he dead? Also, Blackhand is in this? So Doomhammer never killed him? Stupid details, but man, my teenage self really got into that stupid crap back then.
