Jedi Fallen Order: Cal kind of looks like a monkey.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a good game published by the devil.

You play as Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan and current scrap enthusiast. Cal is working on a planet scrapping war machines from the Clone Wars when everything goes up Shits Creek and his alien friend gets capped. So after being saved by Debra Wilson, Cal has to travel across the galaxy in search for a thing I can't talk about because that's a spoiler.

The wiki says that the game's combat was inspired by “Batman: Arkham Asylum.”

    I mean...Uh... Are you sure?

Jedi Fallen Order plays more like one of those there Fromsoft games circa 2009, though with a few twists. While the L1 button blocks, the other shoulder buttons are dedicated to your force abilities. You can push, pull, and slow, there's no button to say mean words to the Storm Troopers and hurt their feelings. You also have a heavy attack button that burns force meter alongside your normal attack button.

I don't know how the keyboard and mouse controls are, since I used one of the many console controllers I have taken from my fallen enemies. The controls work fine, but you have to get use to a bit of delay in the animation. Also sometimes Cal just kind of decided not to jump or dodge when I needed him to jump or dodge. How dare you challenge me?

I...Actually don't know what else to say about the game, so I guess I'll just ramble. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a Star Wars fan to some extent. But I'm less of a “Consume every piece of Star Wars media” fan and more of a “Pretend its still 2010 and weep bitterly” kind of fan.

I like how Scout Troopers are given electric sticks and told to just charge at anything. I always relate them to snipers or recon, so its kind of funny to see them bum rush you with the intent to commit police brutality. I think my biggest problem is that most melee enemies are just kind of off-shoots of the Scout troopers, save for the Purge Troopers, I guess.

I played the game on Jedi Master difficulty, which was pretty challenging. Though that may be because I spent most of my time trying to parry attacks rather than blocking or dodging. The game took a lot of obvious inspirations from Dark Souls, especially considering that there are some attacks that can take out a quarter or more on your health bar. You even have an estus flask equivalent that you can upgrade by finding chests in the world.

You end up visiting a few planets from the Star Wars universe, and some, to my knowledge at least, that are new. They're unique enough to stand out on their own, but I think my biggest problem is how barren everything is. You don't really end up going anywhere interesting, since everywhere you go is more like a hub to complete your objectives rather than an actual world to visit.

You don't end up visiting any cities like Mos Eisley or Nar Shadaa, which is kind of sad, I feel like Buddhist Enlightened Order is perfect for something like that.

It would have been cool to fight gangers or, shit, even just regular storm troopers in back alleys or roof tops of some of the mega cities in the Star Wars universe.

Or maybe I just want to mug an alien, I don't know.

The game is pretty good, I don't see myself going back to it in the future, but it was fun for the one playthrough. There's plenty of places to explore and secrets to find if you like stuff like that. Its one of the better Star Wars games to come out recently, but that's honestly not saying much. There's a lot of neat little secrets to find for Star Wars fans, but I can't really say the game had me by the balls in the hours it took me to finish it.

Should you play Jedi Fallen Order? Yeah, sure.

Should you play Jedi Outcast again instead? Yeah, do that.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine gets 7.9 Klingons out of 10.

You can see Darth Vader's eyes in A New Hope.

      Star Wars with Soul 0

I was surprised to find so many Souls like components in this game, it works well making it very interesting deciding when to heal and respawn versus pushing forward. Then this game adds a lot for future Souls like games to consider like checkpointing before areas a person could fall off an edge, and having falls just lose a small portion of life versus all of it. It does a good job of frequently routing areas so an earlier checkpoint is now quickly accessible, should you need to heal up/save pr...

An engaging, satisfying, yet not too challenging "must play" game 0

After about 22-24 hours of game play, I just wrapped up Fallen Order and I can't recommend the game strongly enough. The combat feels good with only a few moments of immense frustration on standard difficulty. The story was thrilling, and I enjoyed each of the story beats, as well as some surprise cameos. The game definitely has a "souls-like" feel to it, and there are Jedi-style-pyres for saving progress, but the joke "Dark Souls for babies" is apt, and I appreciate it being that approachable....
