So, Giant Bombers, what order did YOU play the Zelda games in? Mine is:

2006-ish(?) Phantom Hourglass (Got stuck after dungeon #1, haven't played for a while, but I'm not quitting)

2009(?) Link's Awakening (Not DX, and it was on my friend's GB)

2013 Skyward Sword (Made a LOT of progress so far: I'm in the Ancient Cistern now, with 12 hearts!)

    2014 OoT3D (Demo)

    2015 MM3D (Again, demo)

    Hyrule Warriors (DEMO)

PS: I haven't beat ANY Zelda game yet.

PPS: The games I want are:

    ALBW

    OoT3D

    MM3D (Not that much)

    WWHD

    LoZ NES

PPPS: The demo games were from Target's in-store demos.

PPPPS: I use ZeldaDungeon when playing SS. (I didn't even know ZD existed when I got stuck in PH.)

Snes era: Lttp and Links Awakening (beat both)

Ps2 era: OoT and MM (beat neither)

Ps3 era: WW (got stuck on green dungeon) and Phantom hourglass (beat) oh and four swords for gamecube (didn't beat)

Ps4 era: WW HD (didn't beat)

I dislike Zelda ever since oot. Aside from the ones above, i also played the levels in nes remix (btw zelda 2 seems WAY better of the two) and the demo for skyward sword. (Which admittedly i thought was awesome) also lttp for gba, but that's just the same game.

I played Twilight Princess and Wind Waker around the same time and those were my first Zelda games. Since then I've played (in this order but never finished): Phantom Hourglass > Spirit Tracks > Ocarina of Time > Link to the Past > Link Between Worlds. I also own but have never started Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword

    Links Awakening first.

Then what ever those inferior N64 games are.

Then the Oracles games (which are also inferior to Links Awakening).

Then I skipped everything until Link Between Worlds, which is objectively the second best Zelda (after Links Awakening).

Then I went back and played NES Zelda and Link to the Past (also inferior).

Now I'm playing Link's Awakening again (in colour this time), because it's the best.

I guess my first Zelda game was A Link to the Past but I didn't own and finish any Zelda game until Ocarina of Time.

I played and finished most Zelda games when they came out since then.

    So, I played and finished:

    • Ocarina of time - 1998
    • Link's Awakening DX - 1998
    • Majora's Mask - 2000
    • Oracle of Seasons - 2001
    • Wind Waker - 2003
    • Four Sword Adventure - 2004
    • Minish Cap - 2005
    • Twilight Princess - 2006
    • Ocarina of Time 3D - 2013
    • A Link Between Words - 2013
    • Majora's Mask 3D - 2015

As you can see, I skipped a few of them and I think I eventually got my hands in A Link to the Past and finished it in the mid 2000s.

I enjoyed all the ones I've played and I have a soft spot in heart for Majora's Mask.

I still want to play A Link to the Past and Wind Waker.

Wow, no one has the original Legend of Zelda as their first game yet. Damn kids, get off my lawn.

To be fair I was really little when I played it, I don't think I even beat the first dungeon.

    • Legend of Zelda
    • Link's Awakening
    • Ocarina of Time
    • Majora's Mask
    • Wind Waker
    • Spirit Tracks
    • Wind Waker HD

There are no SNES games because I had a Genesis, and no Wii games because I loathe motion controls.

I think Wind Waker HD is the only one I actually beat, though my memories of Link's Awakening are pretty foggy. Not sure how far I got in that. Anyway, that doesn't mean I didn't like them. Not beating video games is more common for me than I'd probably care to admit.

    • A link to the Past
    • Ocarina of Time
    • Wind Waker
    • Twilight Princess (on the Gamecube)

I enjoyed and finished all of these around the time they launched. The ones not on this list I have no interest in at all.

Watched my siblings play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Then I got a SNES with A Link to the Past and beat that, played Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Minish Cap on my own. I THINK I beat Majora's Mask on the collector's edition on my own, maybe a bit of Ocarina too, but honestly my memories are a blur. We were kids with limited game playing time and zero English skills, so OoT probably took us two years to beat originally and I can't separate my own experiences from my brother's. After that I played the entire Phantom Hourglass, got close to the end of Spirit Tracks and quit in frustration, and finally I played up to the first temple of Skyward Sword a couple of years ago.

(I have touched the two original Zeldas, but only barely, in a sort of "eww what's up with this" kind of way. I have a hard time playing NES games.)

This is roughly the order of the Zelda games I've finished - the order might be very slightly off, I don't have the greatest of memories.

    • Link's Awakening
    • A Link to the Past
    • Oracle of Seasons
    • Oracle of Ages
    • The Legend of Zelda
    • The Minish Cap
    • Four Swords Anniversary Edition
    • The Adventure of Link

Also, so you can see my nostalgia's influence, this is the order that I would rank them:

    1. Link's Awakening
    2. The Minish Cap
    3. A Link to the Past
    4. Oracle of Seasons
    5. The Adventure of Link
    6. Oracle of Ages
    7. The Legend of Zelda
    8. Four Swords Anniversary Edition

I had a hard time picking second place between Minish Cap and A Link to the Past. They're both very good, but I ultimately ended up going with Minish because I like the graphics more...

Order? Hunh, ok that's kind of an unusual question New Poster. I've beaten all that I've played save Adventure of Link. That save system is my kryptonite.

    9. Oracle of Ages
    10. Minish Cap
    11. Four Swords Adventures
    12. Link's Awakening DX
    13. Twilight Princess
    14. Phantom Hourglass
    15. Spirit Tracks
    16. Skyward Sword
    17. A Link Between Worlds

This the order in which I'd rank them

    1. Legend of Zelda
    2. Ocarina of Time
    3. Link to the Past
    4. Wind Waker
    5. A Link Between Worlds
    6. Adventure of Link

Link's Awakening was the first one I played, around the time it came out. I played LttP in 1997 when I finally got an SNES. I don't think I played another one until I bought a Gamecube in 2006 and played Wind Waker. I've been working my way through the rest of the series since then; played the 3DS remakes of the N64 games, Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds around the time they came out. I've actually beaten four Zelda games just this year: Oracle of Ages (did Seasons a couple of years ago), Majora's Mask, Spirit Tracks and Minish Cap. The only proper Zelda games I haven't finished now are the two NES games and Twilight Princess.

The order is weird, but here is what I have played:

    1. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC) (played it in 2002)
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Gamecube) (beat it in 2003)
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) (beat it in 2007)
    4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) (got it off eBay April 2014)
    5. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (Wii U) (beat it in May this year)

NOTE: Have yet to beat Oracle of Seasons and Ocarina of Time. The reason I did not play OoT until last year was due to not owning the game and not finding my old N64 that was put away by my parents in 2001 until March of last year (put away in the closet). Roughly 70% done with the game as of now (have not played it in months)

Hmmmm. I came at it from a weird direction.

Link's Awakening DX on the GBC.

Then Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask. I think I borrowed a Super Nintendo and Link to the Past from a friend. Then played Wind Waker, Twilight Princess.

I think shortly after finishing TP, I got original Legend of Zelda on the Virtual Console and played through it. Tried Zelda II: Link's Adventure, but that game is fucked hard.

Then I played Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks on the DS. Then Link Between Worlds on the 3DS.

And I'm actually playing through Skyward Sword for the first time right now.

Beyond playing the first four in release order, I have no idea. I never had an N64, GBC or GBA and only played those games years after they came out on borrowed machines or *coughemulatedcough* and not in any kind of release order. I got back on the bandwagon with Wind Waker though and have played every incarnation of Zelda since except for re-releases and A Link Between Worlds partly because I can't be arsed to buy a 3DS and partly because Skyward Sword turned me off on the Zelda formula entirely. What a crappy Zelda game.

trying to envision the OPS path through Zelda is breaking my brain. I'm not sure what I would think of the series had I played it like that.

Like most people here, I played them in order as they were released, for the most part. I have not been able to bring myself to finish any one past Ocarina of Time, though, due to not liking them very much. I have yet to play A Link Between Worlds, though, and I'm excited that it might be what the series has been missing since A Link To The Past.

Agreed, that seems like a special kind of madness!

Anyway, my list looks something like this: (* = beaten)

    1. Link's Awakening (GB) - I played it on a friend's gameboy when I was 8 and had no idea what it was. Didn't beat it.
    2. * Ocarina of Time (N64) - this was the first one I owned for reals, still have this cart and the N64 I got it with!
    3. * Link to the Past (SNES Emulator)
    4. * Link's Awakening (GB Emulator) - I don't know which order I played these two in, but I beat them both
    5. * Majora's Mask (N64)
    6. Legend of Zelda (NES Emulator) - Enjoyed playing this, but wasn't very good at it
    7. Zelda II (NES Emulator) - Seemed weird, and still wasn't very good at it
    8. * Oracle of Seasons (GB Emulator) - Played this when it was new, but didn't own a gameboy :(
    9. * Oracle of Ages (GB Emulator) - Played this one afterwards
    10. * Legend of Zelda (NES Emulator) - Put in a concerted effort, finally beat this one
    11. * Zelda II (NES Emulator) - Don't know how, but I eventually beat this. I suspect heavy cheat use.
    12. * Wind Waker (GCN) - came to this one late, but bought it along with a used Gamecube
    13. * Link to the Past (GBA Emulator) - I even managed to play the multiplayer with my sister eventually. She was less invested than I was, so we didn't get very far
    14. * Twilight Princess (GCN) - Screw you, the Gamecube version is the better version
    15. * Minish Cap (GBA) - Finally got a handheld!
    16. * Four Swords Adventure (GCN) - Played this one solo, since I only had the one GBA.
    17. * Phantom Hourglass (NDS Flashcart) - *cough*
    18. Spirit Tracks (NDS Flashcart) - The flashcart wasn't very good, and was prone to crashing, so I never finished this game...
    19. * Spirit Tracks (NDS) - ... until I got a real job and finally put my days of pirating behind me.
    20. * Phantom Hourglass (NDS) - Just to say I did it.
    21. * Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
    22. * Wind Waker HD (WiiU) - Still a great game
    23. * Hyrule Warriors (WiiU) - I beat this one, in the sense that I completed the story. There is far, far too much side content for any mortal to complete.
    24. * Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
    25. * Twilight Princess (Wii) - After playing MM again, I was inspired to play the two Wii Zeldas I missed.
    26. Skyward Sword (Wii) - However, I only completed one of them. I'm very close to the end, but I lost interest, so it will take a bolt of inspiration to get me back on board again.
    27. * Legend of Zelda (NES Emulator) - during SGDQ, I learned of the Zelda Randomizer. Imagine Zelda 1, but you don't know where anything is because all the caves, items and dungeons have been moved around. So, I'm currently playing through a few iterations of that.

The orginal NES, then the second (briefly cause I hated it) Then Awakening..then Link to the past...

..Then I owned a Ps1..2..and 3. No 64, no GameCube, no Wii until very very late into the cycle. I briefly (and I mean briefly) played a bit of Ocarina at some point in that time frame, and found it to be "wait this isn't zelda, wtf its just as bad a departure as zelda 2 was from 1" or so my teenage brain said.

And..I haven't felt the need to go back sense. Awakening is the only zelda I ever beat, and that was after many many hours, no gamefaqs, no help from friends. That is my preferred style of zelda, and always will be. Only, while we still have some of that kind being released, by the time they came back Zelda had been ocarina-style for ages, and I'd lost all interest in all things Nintendo. The only thing that is ever going to be on the Wii U that I want to play is the Xeno-ish game (name escapes me) and I know someday I'll get to play it, because either they port it, or because I've got a friend who will be happy to let me borrow the game/console a year or two after they no longer use it at all (as I had with the GameCube and Tales of Symphonia)

Zelda 1, 2 and alttp - dabbled with at friend's houses, never got very far

Ocarina - Got it for my birthday soon after release. After this game I was hooked on Zelda and made sure I bought every future game as it they were released.

Link's Awakening DX - This was my first full experience with a 2D Zelda, and probably my favorite.

    Majora's Mask

    Oracle of Ages/Seasons

aLttP - Picked it up at a Flea Market some time in the early 2000s and finally gave it a proper play through. Around the same time I also bought the NES Zelda games (and an NES), but I revisited them on the Game Cube bonus disk that came with Wind Waker. I played a decent chunk of Zelda 1, but Zelda 2 remained impenetrable to me. I played OoT Master Quest at this time too.

    Wind Waker

    MInish Cap

Twilight Princess - Bought for Wii as soon as it was available on store shelves a week before the Wii launched, but it took almost a year to find a Wii. I wish I played it on Game Cube.

    Phantom Hourglass

Spirit Tracks - I didn't pick this one up right away, considering I never finished Phantom Hourglass. I did pick it up eventually, but I think it's the weakest game in the mainline series.

    Skyward Sword

    A Link Between Worlds

Once again I gave the NES games a shot after getting them on virtual console, thanks to Club Nintendo. I got a bit further in Zelda 1 this time, but Zelda 2 remains a brick wall to me. People praise how open the first Zelda games were, but a need a tiny bit of direction, give me some kind of clue.

I can guess years I completed them in, but the order itself already requires too much thought.

First experience w/ the series: I played Zelda 1 at my Grandparent's cottage when I could get the cartridge to work. I don't even think I made it into a dungeon.

    1. Ocarina of Time

    2. Majora's Mask

    3. Dabbled with older games in emulators, never beat them

    4. Skyward Sword

    5. Twilight Princess (played it when it came out but never beat it myself until now)

    6. Link's Awakening on 3DS

    7. Ocarina of Time 3D w/ Master Quest

    8 Phantom Hourglass

    9. A Link to The Past

    10. Spirit Tracks

    11. Oracle of Seasons on 3DS

    12. Oracle of Ages on 3DS, never beat, still probably past the halfway point

    13. Windwaker HD

    14. A Link Between Worlds

    15. Majora's Mask 3D. I only beat the first boss because I've beat this game too many times before.

Also, I've logged varying hours into the original, Zelda II (the most on Zelda II, I love Zelda II), Four Swords Adventures and Four Swords DSi. I bought Minish Cap on Wii U VC and haven't touched it. I imported Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland from Australia and haven't touched it. I beat Link's Crossbow Training! I bought the GC version of SC II and played a lot of it just 2 years ago because Link was in it. I beat Hyrule Warriors, don't consider it a main series game, and barely played all the DLC in it. I bought Sonic: Lost World because of that Zelda zone thing, and the $30 was not well spent on a thing that lasted about a minute. I played that like 10 times and barely played the actual game.

So technically I played LTTP/Link's Awakening first, but I was so young and had so little comprehension of what I was doing that I really can't count them. Also not counting remakes.

    1) Ocarina of Time

    2) Link to the Past

    3) Link's Awakening

    4) Majora's Mask

    5) Oracle of Ages

    6) Oracle of Seasons

    7) Zelda 1

    8) Zelda 2

    9) Wind Waker

    10) Minish Cap

    11) Twilight Princess

    12) Phantom Hourglass

    13) Spirit Tracks

    14) Skyward Sword

    15) Link Between Worlds

I'm watching this thread until I can quote someone who's list is identical to mine.

    It will happen.

    For me it would be

    1. A Link To The Past

That's it, heck I never beat the game either.

I own most of the Zelda games (missing Majora's Mask), but I've only ever beaten the original (gold cartridge given to me by my oldest sister as a birthday present when it first came out) and Ocarina. I was in the middle of playing Windwaker HD, but I'll probably have to restart since I've completely forgotten what I am supposed to do next. I never got around to even playing the rest - well, I rented Zelda II once and hated it.

The Legend of Zelda - Completed multiple times. I like this one the most.

Zelda II - Tried but didn't like.

Ocarina of Time - Tried but didn't like.

Link Between Worlds - Completed... It was OK.

A Link To The Past - Tried but didn't like.

I know, I'm a terrible person. It might not be a good idea to play Zelda games long after their release date. They don't seem to age very well, at least that's the impression I've gotten. I could be wrong, but like, Between Worlds and the original are the only two games I actually played close to when they were released and those are, coincidentally(?), the only one's I like.

Actually, now that I think about it, I remember going a bit sour on Link Between Worlds after I tried A Link To The Past after it... Because that's when I found out that LBW was basically just "A Link To The Past HD Remaster".

Began with Ocarina, continued with Majora, then Link to the Past. Mostly in order of release after that. Just played NES Zelda and Links Awakening last year though.

    Plans for unplayed Zelda games:

    LoZ: Vizzed

    TAOL: Vizzed

    L2TP: VIZZED!!!

OoT: Vizzed; however, it's not a good idea if my laptop is laggy and running Win10.

    MM: See above

    LA: Look at LoZ

    OoX: Look at LoZ

WW: A real stumper: either Dolphin emulator or homebrewing the Wii (U). $&@#!!!

TP: Either buy the Wii copy or use the method above.

FS: See WW, along with setting up some Zelda megafan to play with me. $&@#%^*!!!

    FSA: See FS

    MC: VIZZED!!! HECK YEAH!!!

ST: Emulator or buy an all new American DS (mine's Korean).

ALBW: Buy a 3DS or find a 3DS emulator. Oh man...

WWHD: Oh yeah! Imma get a WiiU soon.

    HW: See WWHD

Again, sorry for the inconvenience of adding "so many acronyms," as oscar___explosion said.
