Giant Bomb Unplugged: Dungeons & Dragons: Episode 02

I know it's mostly a vocal minority and most of you guys are cool dudes, but boy; some of the people in these comment sections are weird as hell.

Every single Giant Bomb video seems to be plagued by members over-analyzing the people in said video as if they were characters who should be "re-written" on command. Dan, Brad, Jeff and the rest are PEOPLE, flaws and all; and reading the creepy, multiple-paragraph "Dan is X and Brad is Y and they need to change this ASAP because I don't LIKE IT!" makes me think that some people take this shit WAY too seriously.

Being a subscriber doesn't mean you have control over how people act and their personalities. Just enjoy the content you're paying for and be cool, please.

Dan is that but with wrestling.

damn I love these. I know I'm late to the party but didn't Detroit/Brad basically rob the Last Canadians and cause the same downward spiral? I remember Melanie/Dave and Vbomb taking great offense. Though to be fair I guess Dan started this one stylin' and profilin'.

Did Dan and Brad just kill this series with their infighting?

I hope not, this series has potential, even more so because Dan and Brad actually go in for the roleplaying.

Just got around to watching this. Hard to tell if Dan is taking his schtick too far, or if he's genuinely that petty and/or competitive. Regardless, the way everything he does has to be about wrestling or actions movies he watched as a kid is wearing a bit thin at this point. Given the opportunity to play a character of his own creation, he just directly imitates some other media he likes instead; it's a little disappointing.

D&D games die by their DM. A good DM keeps the game rolling and uses improv to limit the amount of time spent fumbling over mechanics. Rorie doesn't know enough about the systems to keep the game moving

@ejc93: Watched the Gametrailers Dungeons and Dragons tabletop series on your recommendation. Its fucking fantastic. The shit they get up to is hilarious. Everyone should go watch it.

The problem is breaking character. That's just not how D&D is played. It's frustrating to those who know. I'm still in for the long haul if they haven't given up on it.

Ah, what a beautiful disaster at the end. I loved how Jason zoomed in on that stupid figurine when Lord Richard started bragging about how much he spent on his robe.

Well doubt we'll ever see another one of these, but holy crap I watched that RollPlay One Shot video (It was posted in the comments) afterwards and yah, it's like night and day.

Roarie was doing his best and even by the end started to ask a lot of questions (though it was a last ditch move to move on from the bickering). I really liked how the DM on that RP video was asking a lot of questions that would get the players to describe their actions, or how the enemies died. I think it'd really help the guys get into the world and play their roles more along with starting to think a little outside the box.

That and yeah, please read the manual or rules or whatever it is a little more before the video.

So are they done with this series? I really hope they do more of these and I would like to see them finish their current D&D game. I do wish that Dan would maybe play along a bit more, but on the other hand it was pretty fun to see them argue over the gold.

As much as I love Dan I have to say that I wish he would be a bit more willing to atleast try something he doesn't immediatly like or understand. I mean yes he is playing the game, but it does seem like he is trying to bend or break the rules at every possible moment. When Vinny played the game he atleast stayed in character where I feel like Dan just wants to troll everyone for the sake of being a troll.

If they won't play more D&D I atleast hope that they will do more unplugged videos. But it would be a real shame if they didn't finish the current game.

@rorie For future reference, you don't need to have people leave the room. Player's just need to acknowledge that players knowledge isn't character knowledge; it would be something like a sleight of hand roll vs Dan's perception, or whatever the DnD 5.0 equivalent of that is.

Re: figure four leg locks, a fail should be the opponent grabbing the ropes, and a critical fail should be the opponent flipping over and reversing the hold

I was wondering where all the GB Unplugged segments were... and then I re-watched this one. *sigh* Underappreciated DM skills, @rorie!
