PAX West 2016: Giant Bomb Panel with CAH & 404ing It

Man. That bathrobe on Lang is too much and I missed the very start of this! It's prettyyy good. :D

Can skip the cards snooze fest. The rest was great.

Cards' panel seemed pretty much what I'd have expected based on previous panels they've done.

But the rest of the panel? Yeesh. Hate to say it, but GB's panel was 30 minutes of the crew basically saying not a whole lot of anything at all (and not the good kind where the banter is still really entertaining).

The stunts that get pulled at these panels are fun window dressing of course, but everything else? C'mon fellas. This was a snore.

The beginning segment. It's amazing and scary how much people had Japanese hentai on their phones. lol.

I feel like Giant Bomb live panels have kind of hit that Diggnation point of too big for their own good. Where it stops being "hey, let's do the podcast thing live and take audience questions" to a bunch of drunken nonsense. Don't get me wrong, the drunken nonsense was great in past years but you can't make that the entire point of the panel. The PAX South panel is actually the best one in recent years since they actually just talk about games and field questions. That this panel was only 30 minutes or so doesn't help matters. It's really cool they filled that auditorium but at what cost? AT WHAT COST, I ASK YOU!?

Oh yeah, and that band behind them the whole time was awkward af.

I think the "doing a pax panel twice a year" idea could use a year or two break. I have zero idea how much this costs them, but I'd have to think that money could be better spent than half an hour of "...So how is pax treating you guys?..."

Just from my perspective, I would like to see more oddball stuff like the roller coaster video than another pax panel.

Another Bad Creation

The CAH portion was completely awful and the band was super distracting during the GB portion.

Overall this wasn't the best thing to watch and would be ranked at the bottom for GB panels when compared to previous ones.

I get the reason for teaming up with CAH and it's awesome to see such a huge crowd show up but I think other than that, the experiment was a flop.

@jaypb08: Nah, go back to watching Shenmue.

I liked when Lang came out of the cake. That's the type of dumb fun I love about GB.

Thanks for posting this. I wish I would have waited to watch because the stream from PAX was terrible, I could barely see anything that was happening.

I was there, little disappointing but it announced shenmue. Dave lang was kinda funny, and the 404ing it was fun.

Jeff VR thing was best part. The CAH part was boring.

Man, they'd have a field day with my browser history. Apparently it includes wikipedia articles on Monte Cristo sandwiches, Timbuktu and Luciano Pavarotti (in that order one after another), rule 34 searches for Princess Calla from Gummi Bears and a Yakisoba sauce recipe.

Edit: Aaand, this was incredibly boring. Putting all three panels together and forcing everyone to hurry up seems like a bad idea. Next time they should just do the panels seperately again.

Man the cross talk in the GB section was super confusing.

Yeah, I hated the CAH stuff, liked Pat Baer as usual, and the GB stuff wasn't the best it's been.

Please do a GB only panel-vid next year.. this was..yikes.

I was at this live and while I am not a huge CAH fan....I thought their (and Pat Baer's) panel was decently funny. The GB panel was very awkward and disappointing. Oh well.

I hate to be that guy, but the CAH part was cringeworthy, 404ing it already had a panel that day...and the giant bomb panel didn't have enough time to get rolling before pax wrestling took over.

I enjoy all of these things usually. I did not enjoy them mashed together.

Cards played better to the room. much more laughing. I love gb but this was a little disappointing, maybe the room was too big but no one was on the same page and it kinda rambled along, especially compared to the previous pax panels (cup noodles, breast milk). Maybe some video segments or some of @lackingsaint amazing animations would have played nicely. It was a shame cause i wanted my friends to love giantbomb as much as i do, but they fell asleep.

The pat baer 404 mini part was amazing though. was crying with the brian williams clip

This was absolutely awful. Far and away the worst PAX thing the crew has been a part of and it's not even close.

Also never trust a ska band not to fuck everything up.

Yeah, its tough to say it. I think the bigger crowd must have stressed the guys out or something. I couldn't watch it all.

I hope the GB crew uses this is an opportunity to change what they do with future panels. I think they just need to be more than just a check-in with each of the members and nothing else really. Of course, I'd be stoked to see the guys all in one room for pretty much anything so I get that it's attractive from a live standpoint but watching this made me think that there has to be way, way, way more that could be done with these panels (or at very least they could return to breast-milk drinking greatness by going back to that sorta live podcast thing they had before).
