Revealed at Microsoft's E3 2014 press conference, the game was officially revealed as simply Crackdown. The game will be developed by Reagent Games for the Xbox One with support from Cloudgine, a studio co-founded by Dave Jones the original creator of Crackdown and Sumo Digital Ltd.. The game will be running on the Unreal Engine 4. A multiplayer beta for the game was announced at Gamescom 2015, set for 2016.
According to Microsoft Studios creative director Ken Lobb the game takes place in the future of the Crackdown world, but is in a different reality than Crackdown 2.
Cloud computing engine Cloudgine will be used to create the game's core engine, which allows for the destruction of any part of the game's city. As demonstrated at Gamescom 2015, Crackdown 3 connects a subset of buildings to a server allowing them to be fully destructible. The game's campaign is fully playable offline or online with up to 4 players.
