Yes it is good for you... but is it good fun?

Wii Fit PLATFORM (Wii) PUBLISHER (Nintendo) PRICE $90 ESRB RATING (E for Everyone) PLAYERS (1-2) I keep getting asked how much fun Wii Fit is, and I keep giving the same answer; Wii Fit has a good bit of fun, but that is not exactly the point of the game. Wii Fit is a tool for fitness above anything else. It is meant to be played daily as an addition to your fitness regiment. It is not a replacement for a healthy diet or going to the gym, and it is not a "game". At least not in the way most people think of videogames. Sure, there are aspects that are entertaining, but each has you working out or trying to improve your posture. The fun here is masking an activity that is truly good for your body and soul. That said, Wii Fit can truly be a blast to play, especially when you get a group together to see who can do best at what activities. While there is only one mode that can be played competitively, with players playing at the same time (and not on the balance board to boot). But that actually creates more competition. You know when it is your turn that everyone in the room will be watching, and that you have to do your best or everyone will see you fail. Wii Fit has a hefty price at $90, and the included Balance Board could have been designed a little larger to fit the number of over sized Americans... which includes me. None of these issues do much but slightly dim the success of this game. And the fact that there have been a number of games announced that will use the Balance Board means that your $90 will go farther than just one game. Wii Fit may not be a true innovation (other companies have already released similar games to less then enthusiastic sales) but it will bring the idea of playing videogames to the masses in a way that may just bring acceptance to the idea that videogames are not just a passive experience. In the end, that it why Wii Fit is such a triumph. If you like this, you might also like these. We Ski PLATFORM (Nintendo Wii) PUBLISHER (Bandai Namco) PRICE $50 ESRB RATING (E for Everyone) PLAYERS (1-4) THE QUICK AND DIRTY : We Ski can be played without the Balance Board, but it is a whole lot more fun if you do use it. The game is also one of the few on the Wii that let you use your Mii, but its open world design might just be a bit too open. Skate It PLATFORM (Wii) PUBLISHER (EA) PRICE $50 ESRB RATING (RP for Rating Pending) PLAYERS (1) THE QUICK AND DIRTY : Skate premiered on the PS3 and Xbox 360 this holiday and quickly dethroned the Tony Hawk series as the king of skateboarding games. Wii fans might have a long wait for this holiday, when they get to see how the Skate series uses the Balance Board |
