    Overview

    No Caption Provided

Amuro Ray is a major figure in the Universal Century timeline of the Gundam franchise. He is the protagonist of the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series and the movie Char's Counterattack as well as a supporting character in Mobile Suit Z Gundam. He is considered a hero of the One Year War, in which he fought at only fifteen years of age.

Born on Earth, Amuro moved to the space colony Side 7 with his father Tem Ray when Tem was called in to do top secret work on designing mobile suits. While there, he made friends with Fraw Bow and Hayato Kobayashi, but was otherwise reclusive due to his father spending most of his time at work, and content to work on amateur electronics projects.

    One Year War

Amuro became involved in the One Year War when a Zeon reconnaissance unit attacked his colony. Desperate, he hopped in the Gundam, a mobile suit of his father's design, and fought off the Zeon troops, who were led by the acclaimed ace Char Aznable. Though Amuro's actions had caused significant damage to the colony, he was recruited to become a member of the crew of the ship White Base and continued to pilot the Gundam in the Earth Federation's fight against Zeon. Over the course of the series, he would be revealed to be a Newtype, a member of the human race evolved through mankind's migration into space, and cement what would become a lifelong rivalry with Char.

    Z ("Zeta") Gundam

In the eight years following the One Year War, Amuro is considered a hero, but due to his Newtype status is also feared by the Earth Federation government and forced to live a comfortable but highly confined life in Cheyenne, Wyoming. However, he escapes, and with the urgings of his old adversary Char regains his fighting spirit and joins the war against the Titans.

    Char's Counterattack

    No Caption Provided

When Char returns six years after Z Gundam as the leader of Neo Zeon, Amuro fights him one last time. In their final battle, he manages to destroy Char's mobile suit and prevents the remnants of an asteroid launched at Earth from striking the planet's surface. However, it is not known if he survived, as the events of the Universal Century chronology have not made his fate clear.

    In Video Games

As one of the most important individuals in the Gundam franchise, Amuro has appeared in numerous video games over the years and has been represented in all three eras of the Universal Century in which he appears. In games in which he is voiced, his voice is provided by Toru Furuya, his voice actor in the anime series and movies.
