You've seen Rock Band appear on The Colbert Report a handful of times recently, with artists such as Rush showing up and failing their own song, Nas coming in and apparently killing it, and so on.
Well, in a move that I have to imagine is a clear example of how to create and leverage some synergy between different branches of the Viacom tree, a song from TV's Stephen Colbert titled Charlene (I'm Right Behind You) has surfaced as a free download in the Xbox 360 version of the Rock Band music store. We've received conflicting reports from people that we're taking ot mean that you might have to be an Xbox Live Gold member to get it.
It's not currently showing up in the New Releases section (at least not in the version of Rock Band that we're playing), but if you search by song or artist or whatever, it's in there. They've even dated it 1986 and given it an album cover, which is pretty funny.
Here's the video for the song, which helps. The song doesn't work quite as well on its own.
This all has to end with Colbert singing the song in Rock Band 2 on his show, I imagine. That should be pretty good. In my mind, he's singing while three way-too-famous musicians back him up with the new wireless guitars and drums.
[UPDATE] This track is now available for free on the PlayStation Store for PS3 owners, as well.
