New terrain, new enemies, and new choices await in New Vegas' first bit of paid DLC.
Bethesda is now talking about the first bit of Fallout: New Vegas content, an "exclusive" downloadable joint for the Xbox 360. Dead Money, as it's called, will have you become the victim of a "raw deal" in which your life is threatened. After said deal goes down, you and three other "captured" Wasteland rovers will be asked (or forced) to discover the "legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino" for an unspecified reason.
If the name of the target didn't already tip you off, this content will feature new areas and terrain, as well as new enemies and moral choices, according to Bethesda in a press release this morning.
Dead Money will make its exclusive debut on Xbox Live this December 21. It'll be priced at 800 Microsoft Points. Here's what Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has to say about this content:
"We’re pleased to give fans a chance to expand their experience in Fallout: New Vegas this December with Dead Money,” Hines said in a statement. "The release of Dead Money illustrates our commitment to creating entertaining add-on content for players to enjoy in already massive games like Fallout: New Vegas.”
Sounds fun, though similar to the beginning of Fallout: New Vegas. Hopefully, come December 21, I'll actually be in a position to play this DLC. Those Brotherhood of Steel missions are a slog, eh?
You can try all you want to get me to play this on a 360, but it's never going to happen. Unless the DLC happens to include a console feature so I can no-clip myself out of getting stuck all over the place, and resetting broken quests.
I'm enjoying this game on my PC despite the bugs, thanks in no small part to the console commands, but I notice that everyone I know playing this on a 360 gave up a couple days in, upon losing several hours of gameplay to one game-breaking bug or another.
Wake me up when this DLC is available for the PC version.

Yes. The opinions and personalities are what got people here to begin with, so fucking duh, yes. If you don't have a strong opinion about it, its probably not worth talking about or reporting on. Kind of like how you never see Madden news here. Cus the staff don't care. This site was fine without filler news.
I don't get why when a Microsoft or Sony puts up some sum of money for exclusive DLC it's basically just smart (but admittedly cutthroat) business, however when the publishers accept these deals they're instantly betraying the fans. It's like how everybody knows Mr. Record Company is evil and we've come to accept it, but the minute some band you thought was totally indie starts making bank you want to hate the artists for it.
I get being pissed because you have the game on PS3 or PC, but don't turn it into a thing where Bethesda personally decided to take a crap on you. It's business.
Oh right, I forgot this is 360 exclusive. Well, I guess after I do all that I can my broke ass can sell New Vegas, then, cuz I'm sure not going to wait a year for a DLC port. May as well rent it when it comes to PS3, though, as the storytelling of the game is amazing, so more of that is always going to be worth it.
It'll come to the PS3, right? I will turn into the biggest whiner in history if it remains a 360 exclusive. I am already quite a whiner, but this would make me turn the corner.
It'll be interesting to see how they implement this since you can't keep playing after the game ends, I wonder at which point I will be able to go back and play it..
FUCK exclusive DLC. I'll wait until it's available for my platform, but I will NEVER buy a version of a game based on exclusive DLC. I'll just wait patiently for it to come out and Microsoft to realize that they're being jerks, hopefully this "exclusive DLC" bullshit will die off eventually.

Still fucking stupid that this isn't coming to the PC version at least much less the PS3 which if I didn't have the PC one it'd be the PS3 one I'd get.
Must've been quite the check cut to get them to make it exclusive. Hopefully it'll come eventually like FO3.
@Klaimore: I turned on hardcore for my first play through. It wasn't much more difficult. You just had to limit the number of weapons you carried and use cover when you were hurt.
I just hope that in this DLC there's more of the (believe if I recall right) Black Mountain radio broadcast with the new super mutants who remind me of a mix between Morbo from Futurama & Mark Hamill doing the voice of the Joker.

I think hardcore mode & the game difficulty are different settings. I started the game in Normal, so I'm just gonna finish it that way & then go back & play the game in Hardcore mode after (although I wish I had just started Hardcore from the start now).
The hardcore mode makes you think more about preparedness, which is what real survival is all about. When you wander around, you have to worry about food, water, shelter (sleep) & then the other things in the game like becoming crippled, addicted, getting radiation poisoining, & the slow healing process. Every resource you get in the hardcore game is an essential item you'll probably need to get through the game, as opposed to just a lot of sell-able junk that you need to get rid of.
I think true hardcore mode would also include turning off Fast Travel. >:-) I once spent 8 hours wandering with a group of AI in Fallout 3 just going from point A to B. It was pretty amazing & pretty tough trying to keep everyone alive as they took this really winding path into southern DC.

I think I'm burned out on Fallout. 15 hours into New Vegas and I'm getting the old procrastination problems I had with 3 again. Meaning I think of the game as some sort of unpleasant work that needs to get done. Just yesterday in a fit of Fallout distraction I downloaded Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and started learning how to play Team Scrub. And then I bought the new Assassin's Creed. Odds of my finishing New Vegas now are sub 25%.
@HerbieBug: I'm really enjoying the game, but I have a feeling I'd have the exact same problem if I played anything else in between. It would just feel like a chore compared to other games...but right now my addiction is in full effect and I'm closing in on the end....I think!
