Day 1 Studios is hard at work on F.E.A.R. 3, which is due for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this fall. Though the press release only ever calls it "F.E.A.R. 3," the logo treatment is the same as that leaked image we spoke about recently:
So... dumb logo, but at least they're not actually calling it that. The game will feature cooperative play, with one player playing as Point Man and the other as his bad brother, Paxton Fettel. Each player will have different abilities and the experience is being described as "divergent co-op." Fettel will have telekinetic abilities, and the game will have an "evolved" cover system.
The rest of the press release is devoted to ensuring you that Day 1 has been "working closely" with Monolith, the game's original developers, to make sure they get it right. Horror icon John Carpenter is giving input on the game's cinematics while Steve Niles gets a co-writing credit on the script.

I'm a fan of F.E.A.R., so this is exciting to me, dumb logo aside. Going back to Point Man and Paxton Fettel is somewhat odd, though. I wonder how all the storyline stuff ties in.
FEAR 2 was a competent if uninspired shooter. I'm fine with competent games (especially at the discounted price I buy them for months after their initial releases), but in a competitive genre like the FPS developers must do something that stands out a bit more than gloomy militarism plus Japanese horror. Call of Juarez spiced things up with macho Western aesthetics and Wolfenstein had its trademark crazy-ass Nazi/sci-fi destructoporn going for it, but the FEAR series is dangerously derivative and unimaginative in ways that threaten to undermine the general shooter decency at its core.
Also, the way Monolith blatantly sexualized Alma in "F2AR" (final boss battle/sex scene, anyone?) was cynic pandering at its worst. I want my scary horror girls to be pre-pubescent and properly clothed, thankyouverymuch...
I'm more surprised that it isn't Monolith developing but Day 1 Studios that did the console port of the original. Still, I liked both FEAR games and te whole return to Point Man and Paxton for co-oporertive is very intriguing.

I'm just pissed that most of the trophies are for ranked muliplayer you know how hard it is to finad a room these days, FUCK!! The last F.E.A.R. did suck but I'll have to check this new nne out..

I actually did like the first game. Havent touched the second for unknown reasons however. Maybe i will buy it at some point to increase my steam games list again.
What was their involvement in the development of the first game? I'm not too keen on someone else developing the game, since we all know how that turned out last time. Yeah, it was different circumstances, but I remain skeptical, and in the very competitive shooter category, they probably don't want that.
Man, they should have probably kept that fact under wraps for the most part. My brain would have (metaphorically) exploded when I played the game and found out that your co-op partner is Paxton Fettel.
I'm a little wary of Day 1's involvement, I think Monolith has been doing some great stuff between the FEAR and Condemned franchises and would rather see this new game coming from them.
I was actually interested in a third F.E.A.R. after finishing the second one but after reading the co-op with telekinetic abilities stuff and cover system and Monolith not developing it, my interest has tanked.
