Grasshopper Manufacture's Shadows of The Damned Announced

Suda 51's next title will take us to Hell and back.

Grasshopper Manufacture's recently unveiled Shadows of the Damned is being billed as a "psychological action thriller" by its publisher EA, but the same marketing materials make it sound like more of an action-heavy revenge title. Shadows of the Damned, according to a recent press release, revolves around the exploits of a leather-clad biker named Garcia. He's a demon killer who is tasked with rescuing his girl after demons with some displaced humours snatch her. Promises of over-the-top action have been made, in addition to "gruesome" boss battles, both of which will require the powers of light to combat.

Shadows of the Damned is being co-created by No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda and Resident Evil brain Shinji Mikami. You can see the influence of the latter specifically in the game's in over-the-shoulder perspective, which is similar to that of Resident Evil 4. And while man-on-demon combat seems to be the game's true focus, there will be other things to do. The aforementioned press release makes a special mention of "demented puzzles" being incorporated into the game.

== TEASER =="With Shadows of the Damned, gamers will fight for love in the most difficult arena imaginable… hell," said Mikami said in a statement. "Players will find themselves surrounded by demons set on destroying their heart and soul. Only the strong will survive."

Shadows of the Damned is slated for a summer 2011 release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. As Kotaku notes in its announcement article, this game appears to be the very one EA mentioned back in August 2008 when it teased a Suda and Mikami co-created horror title.

Trolls be trolling. I love Giantbomb because there is no arguments or trolls.. and then I notice people arguing and am afraid for the future of this online community. @RsistncE is being foolish, making such assumptions and generalisations. "
Icemael knows that I've thoroughly argued my position on why Japanese games and their developers are a dying breed. I didn't see the need to do it all over again. "
Yeah, sure. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I just don't think that whole Wapanese generalisation thing was necessary, but it was meant to be funny so kudos to you for that.

@afrofools: I was just being a dick, that's all. I just didn't think I needed to reiterate my position on the Japanese games industry for the umpteenth time. Either way I still stand by my opinion that this game looks generic as hell. If we're shown more that proves otherwise, I'll eat my words.

@RsistncE: It's called prioritizing. I remember outstanding discussions. Meaningless chatter, I forget after a couple of days.

very interested in seeing how the final product ends up. with these great names behind it we can at least expect something good, heres hoping it gets delivered!
one little comment though about the main character, talk about the "mexican cliché" :D I like it in a sort of "it looks cheesy and i hate it" sorta way if that makes any sense...

Looks sweet, hoping they pass on the giant titted she-monsters.  Maybe I won't be ashamed to play this Japanese game.

I'm really looking forward to this even if it looked a little too generic at first glance.
