Lost Planet 2 Coming To PC In October, Preview Available Now

Can your computer handle giant akrids?

Capcom's Lost Planet 2 is coming to the PC on October 15, according to a recent press release. And a "preview" for the game is available today, meaning you don't have to rush into a purchase blindly later this fall.

This PC version prominently features DirectX11 tech and NVIDIA 3D support, both of which will naturally perform better on higher-end PCs. If you're unsure of how your rig will perform, feel free to hit NVIDIA's official site right now. There's a downloadable preview that'll apparently tell you if you'll be able to run the game and then to what specs you can comfortably do so.

All told, the preview has two parts: Test A and Test B. The former is like a short demo. Its purpose is to give you an indication how LP2 will actually run on your PC. The latter is a benchmark for DX11. It'll "push [your] PC to its limits" and give you a good idea as to what your rig can handle in general.

This is a DirectX11 shot.
This is a DirectX11 shot.

LP2 wasn't a great game, exactly, and I'm about 90-percent sure things like 3D vision, lifelike water volume and bullet reaction, and higher resolution bosses won't fix what was broken in the original. But if you're dead set on giving this version a spin, this preview might be a good place to start. The actual requirements are just below.

== TEASER == Minimum
  • OS: Windows XP
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor or over; AMD Athlon x2 Processor or over
  • Memory: Windows XP 1GB or over; Windows Vista: 2GB or over
  • HDD: 13GB free space or over
  • Resolution: 640x480 or over
  • DVD-ROM Drive: DVD 9 Support Drive
  • Video Card: DirectX 9.0 / Shader 3.0 or over; NVIDIA GeForce 7800 Series or later; ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro or over; VRAM: 256MB or over
  • Sound Card: DirectSound Support (DX9 or over)

I think that benchmark did more harm than good.
The guy that plays it is horrible and really makes the game look worse than it really is.

Test A and Test B reminds me of the Resident Evil 5 benchmark test. After all, this is a Capcom game right?

game always looks great in screenshots like this but unless they've changed the core mechanics (pro tip: they haven't) its still gonna be awful...

Capcom if you want to stop losing those profit margins I suggest you not even bother!

Feels more like an expensive bench marking tool considering how okay it was.

"Can your computer handle giant akrids?"
I'm pretty sure it can. I, on the other hand, don't. I'll pass it.

PS: what's the deal with the "maximum requirements"? If my PC is better than that, it will NOT run the game? The proper term is "recommended", not "maximum", LOL

The Akrids? Sure. It's the frothy-mouthed, screeching fanboys I'm not sure my computer can handle.

I just don't think this game will play well on the PC control wise. I mean it controls weird enough on a gamepad how weird will it be with a mouse and keyboard?

When I first saw the information about this game, leading up to its first release, I thought it looked like it was an awesome game! Then when I saw that it was actually coming out for the PC too I was so excited for this game that I went and pre-ordered it! Then, just before it comes out, I find that you are delaying the PC version for almost a year after the console kids get there version? Forget about the fact that the game reviewed badly and that I have never heard a single good thing about the game, how the fuck to you expect anyone to care about this game so long after it has been out? Anyone who was even slightly interested in it has ether played it by now or are too pissed off by this bullshit move to even care about the game. Every time one of you guys do this with a PC release you are saying to the PC community that you don't care enough about us or the platform to release this game at the same time as the rest. So why should we care about your fucking game? You couldn’t be bothered to release it with the rest of them.

Drives me fucking nuts. I swear if these guys do the same thing with the Dead Rising game I will go something something...

EDIT: I guess I should thank you guys actually. If you had of released this on time I would have bought a bad game. So thanks for that I guess.

I'm blazingly indifferent.  I'm glad that they're releasing it so that Lost Planet PC fans can get a chance to play it, though.  I commend them for that.  I personally don't care about the franchise.

If anyone is interested, I just ran this on my machine:

Nvidia 9800GT 512MB
AMD Athlon X2 5400+ 2.80GHz
2GB RAM

Ran at 1680 x 1050, all settings on high, no V sync and no AA.

and averaged 34 fps on the first test, I didn't run the second. ran really well actually, rarely dipped below 30 and when it did it wasn't choppy at all.

I'd love to know how many of the people who say it's crap actually played it. I haven't so I can't pass any comment on it.

@Binman88: It's not awful by any means. It's an okay game if you like that sort of thing. All the whining about controls is something i really don't understand. It doesn't play like a western shooter..oh no! I've played far worse in my time.

Played the first Lost Planet on PC and it works just fine just like any other PC third person shooter. However it does have the option to use a gamepad, so if mouse and keyboard is too much or too weird, you can always switch over to gamepad to feel a little more at home.

I guess I am the only one looking forward to this on PC regardless of Brad's shocking review.

The DX11 benchmark is crazy intensive. Haven't tried the DX9 one yet, but one guy got 120 FPS with an HD 5970, so something like an HD 5870 should get 60+ FPS easy.

I like Lost Planet 2.  I think it's got some issues, mostly with the accessibility of getting into games.  But I think it's mostly hated on because it doesn't play like every other shooter, and there is an incredible demand for orthodoxy on this site and others.  When people buy shooters, they demand that they know exactly how they play before they even unwrap the plastic.

Just did it and got about 40average with it at
1080
32x aa
tess high
everything else maxed

and this is on my oced 470 and 920

not bad. though I do wish there was some dx 11 - 9 switcher, so I knew what I was getting with dx11 dynamically.

Loved this game. Even with all the bad reviews I bought it and will buy it a second time. If you don't mind playing exclusively online with randoms or friends, get this game. Otherwise it's not that great. :/
