Mad Catz And Microsoft Making New Wireless Headsets

Better late than never, right?

Ubiquitous controller manufacturer Mad Catz has penned yet another deal with a publisher to put out official products for a platform, though, this time they're for the audio crowd.

MTV Multiplayer reports that Mad Catz and Microsoft are working together to bring out wireless headsets under the Tritton brand for the Xbox 360, marking the first time a manufacturer other than Microsoft has gotten its hands on the proprietary tech that allows for wireless headsets on the platform. The deal will allow for a range of headsets to be made, including wired stereo headphones and wireless headphones that feature Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Presumably, microphones will be part of the respective packages.

No Caption Provided

No other details are being made available at this time, but both are slated to hit at some point later this Fall. I’ll add that Tritton headphones are no slouch. I’ve enjoyed the wired AX Pro headset for quite a while, though there’s better out there. We’ll have to wait and see if these co-branded beasts can beat the rest.

I sort of miss the days when Major Nelson was giving away a Turtle Beach headset every week on his show. Things are so complicated now. :)

I only enjoy these Wireless Headset threads when they have large, almost symmetrically cropped pictures of Wireless Headsets in them. Eff yeah.

I would like a wireless sound/chat headset.   Though I will probably never buy said headset.  :)

I got the tritton AX pro also. They're sick. And you claim there's better? They're insane when playing MGS 4 and Red Dead in particular and by lowering the volume on the amplifier you get rid of the weird noises.

Huh.  I'd consider it a bad partnership if it weren't for the excellent Street Fighter 4 Fighterpads Mad Catz put out.  That line of Street Fighter 4 peripherals made me reconsider my stance on Mad Catz.

Good, I've heard the last ones were absolute shit. It's also nice to see Mad Catz actually trying, unlike all the other 3rd party accessory manufacturers who have been pumping out the same shit (in lesser quantities) since forever.

I've been thinking of getting some 5.1 headsets. The Astro a40 set looks nice, not exactly cheap though.

Mad Catz: no thanks. Been burned by them too much in the past.

I'm the last one out of all of my friends to still rock the wired mic, but if this new model is cool enough I might take the plunge.

What about Turtle Beach? They make wireless headphones with wireless microphones as well? I'd take MadCatz over them any day, but am really enjoying my wired SteelSeries phones.

It only took one pair of crappy GameCube wireless controllers to put MadCatz on my shit list forever.

@Everyones_A_Critic:
I actually prefer having the wired mic so I can mute it on the controller, rather than having to go to the ear with my wireless.  Only problem is the wired mics always get broken one way or another.

crap... i just ordered the steel series mixer for 360 so i could use my gamerscom pc headset on the box, its not a tritton but it does the job on the cheap. sounds like its a good workaround until fall.

wonder why they didnt do this sooner? how much money was wasted in that wireless headset when they couldve done this on day one...

I have to wonder if I can trust putting anything produced by MadCatz in my ear.

I bought the wireless 360 headset early on and I fucking love it. It's comfortable, the sound quality for me is great and I rarely if ever hear anyone complain about static or interference on the other end, in which case all I do is mute/unmute or blow into the thing and it works.

Bought the Tritton AX Pro headset a few weeks ago and have been thoroughly impressed. Their fightsticks and Rock Band 3 instruments are all really good. They've definitely changed their game up for the better.

I really liked the two wireless 360 headsets I had a while ago. Too bad they both broke for no reason.

The second one broke the day after I bought it. So fuck this.

I just wish they'd make a bluetooth dongle for the controller or system itself.

Wait....wait....

Is this Tournament Edition Fight Stick Mad Catz, where they realize their strengths and weaknesses and contact somebody else to help make parts they can't and then in turn make an amazing product for gaming... jesus you really can't beat them now in terms of price and performance for sticks. They are number one for that...how fucking crazy is that? Who expected that before SF IV came out?

Or is this shitty Mad Catz where they can't do anything right?

Eh, whatever thank god I live with audiophile roommates and have a kick ass sound system. Can't imagine wearing a goofy headset. Especially when someone sits down in the living room to watch me play a bit or when I watch them.
