Mass Effect 2 PS3 Box Art Confirms DLC Bonus Content

A bunch of previous DLC is heading to the PS3 as part of the six hours of extra content.

Not long after EA teased that the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 would feature "bonus content," it was revealed that said bonus content would be previously released DLC for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. No real surprise there. But what content was being brought over? Ah, now that's something we didn't know until EA released the first official bit of box art for the PS3 version of the game earlier today. As indicated by the white strip on top of the box (just below), Kasumi's Stolen Memory, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker will compose the "six" additional hours of content in ME2 PS3.

 SEE!?
 SEE!?
It's been a while since these bits of DLC have hit, so here's a refresher:

Kasumi's Stolen Memory
In the first section of this DLC, you play a smooth, almost James Bond-like Commander Shepard in an attempt to find an art collector's vault during his open house shindig. In the second and final half, you'll be forced to fight through this massive vault with a new character, a space rogue named Kasumi. After the mission, Kasumi can join your party and you'll get access to some new skills, including a space backstab maneuever.

Kasumi is the one on the metal thing, FYI.
Kasumi is the one on the metal thing, FYI.

== TEASER ==Overlord
This content is a little more traditional: you get a message asking you to investigate a previously unexplored and rather uninspired place which, wouldn't you know it, is the center of something terrible and violent. Specifically, a virtual intelligence construct is on the loose and controlling Geth robots. Your mission is to stop it and kill said robots.

Green means kill.
Green means kill.

Lair of the Shadow Broker
Unfortunately, this is the only bit of ME2 DLC that I haven't had a chance to devour, but I do know one thing: it has Liara in it, which is fantastic considering she was one of the playable characters dropped from the first Mass Effect. In the interest of informing, here's the boilerplate about the DLC from the ME2 website:

Liara T'Soni is tracking down the mysterious Shadow Broker, and no one is safe. She'll do anything to recover the man the Broker kidnapped... and the Shadow Broker's agents will do anything to stop her. Team up with Liara and chase clues from the luxurious heights of Illium to the Shadow Broker's own secret lair. Adds the Shadow Broker intel center, new research, and five new achievements – and the chance to continue a relationship with Liara.

No Caption Provided

Overall, Xbox 360 and PC owners paid around 30 bucks for all this content, so you'll be saving some serious cash if you decide to grab the PS3 version this January. I should note, though, that the two former bits of DLC have no real connection to the main story arc, and from what I hear, neither does Lair of the Shadow Broker. While the DLC's free, it's not exactly like you'd be missing much if you weren't getting it. But, hey, you are, and that's pretty cool!

UPDATE: These bits of DLC, as well as the Blood Dragon armor, will be included on-disc, according to a recent ME2 forums post (via Joystiq). Also, the ME2 PS3 will be supported by Cerberus Network, which will give owners quick access to the Zaed character DLC and the Firewalker pack, which adds that floaty spaceship thing and some additional missions.

No mention of the interactive Dark Horse comic that will let PS3 users experience ME1 (and make the moral choices) without needing to play it? having Wrex around is very important stuff!

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the first part of the DLC that is going to move the story to where it is for Mass Effect 3, so I suppose it is connected to the main story arc.

I would be tempted to buy this since I already own Mass Effect 2 on Xbox but I do not have the DLC.

Payed $20 for ME2 on Steam, if I buy the $30 of DLC that should still put me under the $60 price point for a new PS3/XBOX 360 game.  Even with the all inclusive package I can't give up the superior controls and graphics of the PC.

That said, I'm excited to see the most amazing Science Fiction story ever told on the medium of video games, make it to the PS3.

Actually, Lair of the Shadow Broker is pretty integral to Mass Effect as a whole.

Can us 360 owners who still haven't picked it up expect a Game of the Year Edition soon with all the DLC?

The 360 version costs about 30 bucks right now, so you really aren't saving anything. Unless you're comparing the price of the PS3 version now to the price of the 360 version a year ago -- and in that case, you'll be "saving some serious cash" by buying any of the versions, as long as you do it from now onwards.

U, well it has to win game of the year somewhere first before that can happen... I don't  doubt that it will win GOTY.. Heck it's my GOTY 2010 for sure!

I really liked Overlord. Some cool visual effects. The Commander Shepard version of Lawnmower Man. Shadow Broker is definitely the best of the bunch, though.

Another ps3 game that won't be seen on my ps3, got it on the 360 already. Glad it's coming out to more people though it would have been nicer for them to just release it on all platforms initally if it meant waiting a little while longer.

So far the only Mass Effect 2 DLC that's worth anything was the Shadow Broker one. The rest are pretty much shit. The Katsumi started well and had a very good mid point but the ending was complete crap. It almost felt like they had no idea how to finish it.

Only terrible thing is the PS3 is getting saddled with the terrible Renegade ending from the first game.

It kept me on the 360, since I wasn't feeling going through the first one again even on the PC.

@zyn: I'm sure there's gonna be a GotY edition for the 360 next year too. Hell it's only 20 dollars right now brand new. Which by the way if you add the 30 dollars of content is still cheaper than the PS3 version.

Huh. I feel like PS3 owners are getting a way better deal than 360 owners. Our free content doesn't add up to even close to their free content. I know they want to encourage PS3 owners to play their game, but it feels a little unfair for those of us who have been supporting ME2 from the start.

I enjoyed all of the DLC I purchased so it was worth it to me, but I really hope they will be rolling out more free content for everyone soon.

Really? So the ending is set in stone? Jesse Houston posted on the BioWare forums that there's going to be an interactive event for PS3 owners. Interactive means you can actually interact doesn't it?
So that doesn't include the user being able to choose any ACTUAL Mass Effect 1 things? Harsh!

No one should be complaining about being "ripped off".   First of all the game, minus any DLC, was awesome and well worth the 60 when it came out early this year.  Plus it's still cheaper to get it on the 360 even paying for all the DLC.  Just go to Amazon.com the game is 17.96 new.

It's only going to have the 3 DLC already out? I was expecting it to have a new DLC. In this case, it's actually cheaper to get the game + all DLC on the PC or 360.

@___pocalypse: PS3 owners aren't getting a better deal, where do you see that? Kasumi and Overlord are both 560 MSPoints, Shadow broker is 800 so that equals to about 20-25 dollars worth of content, plus the PC and 360 version of the game can be found for less than 20 dollars now. That's around 40-45 bucks all together. Way cheaper than the PS3 version.

@Doctorchimp: Are you serious that they're getting the shitty renegade ending???

Actually, the events of the Liara DLC have a major impact on the Mass Effect universe as it features the biggest shift in power since humanity joined the council. The impact on ME2 is minimal, but I'm sure it will have a significant effect on ME3.

If the ps3 does get some exclusive content over the 360, I highly doubt it'll be anything that I feel I'll be missing out on by giving it a pass. No strong story additions, that much should be clear enough.

GOTY editions put me off buying any game at launch, because it feels like content is kept to be sold as DLC later further pushing up the eventual cost. Case in point I waited until Assassins creed 2 was sold as a complete package in the GOTY edition before buying it.

@charlie_victor_bravo:  Eh for the most part that statement is null and void anymore :S. It's pretty even between the system versions anymore. If you wanna get a bit picky you'll find a few places saying the PS3 versions of things such as Fallout new vegas and Dead Rising 2 have better textures and frame rate. But in the end it's pretty nitpicky due to counters and it only being a handful of frames better.

PS3 owners are in for one hell of an experience with this package. I have beaten Mass Effect 2 twice already, and just reading this has me itching to go through the game a third time.
