No more "smelly cheese" face?I really enjoyed the previous two Max Payne games. The series places you in the shoes of the hard-boiled, scrunchy-faced, down-on-his-luck detective, Max. It's a dark tale, told in a gritty, noirish fashion, that follows Max's ever-quickening separation from humanity. Now, with a new "more world-weary and cynical" Max Payne slated for release in "Winter 2009," it's hard to imagine how Rockstar, the series' publisher, can find a way to crush our poor anti-hero's soul any further.

Man, poor Max. I thought the guy was at the end of his rope by the end of the intro in the first game. I'm very curious to see how the game is done now that it is out of the hands of its original creators, Remedy Entertainment. According to the press release, things will be moving away from the mean streets of New York to some other urban nightmare.
Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.
I'm defintely looking forward to hearing more about this one, and with it coming to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in "Winter 2009," hopefully it won't take too long. So what would you guys want for Max Payne 3? Personally, I just want to see him get a puppy and meet a nice lady who runs a stand that sells seashells afixed with googly eyes.
I personally hope they use the Stranglehold engine. Cover, bullet time, everything that MP3 needs.
Though I kinda hope the Mona does die, because it makes Max a more =( character. I also hope it's linear like the first, the level design in the second was kinda shitty (seriously, how are you supposed to shootdodge if there is a small 2x4 every 3 feet?) Sandbox games blow.
The original was much better than the 2nd imo, hopefully Rockstar will use the GTA IV engine and make the 3rd just as ground breaking! They are Geniuses.
It's quite disappointing how Remedy is not going to be involved in the Max Payne series anymore But guys, don't forget that Jeff gave Bully, a game that was developed by Rockstar Vancouever aka the guys who are developing Max Payne 3, an 8.7 out of 10 I'm quite optimistic with how things are gonna turn out
That's precisely what we're afraid of - that it will become a GTA clone. I personally loved Max Payne because it was linear: it told a concise story in a way a sandbox game can never hope to do. If Rockstar make MP3 a GTA clone, while I'm perfectly willing to accept that it will probably be a high-quality entertaining game, I don't think it will be Max Payne. It will be Grand Theft Auto: Noir York or whatever city they've transported him to now.
I have serious issues with companies taking IPs from other companies that are still perfectly functional, because the original creators are the ones who understand the best where they want the franchise to go. Other dev teams can't quite match that.
I see you guys complaining that remedy isnt the one doing this...but ROCKSTAR is. Do you understand? ROCKSTAR. You know, the immensely successful creators of the GTA series? Likely one of the best companies to be doing a game about a rundown old washout cop living in a terrible city with a lack of morality. Did any of you play any of the GTA games? This is like a step UP. (i am a massive max payne fan and I'm extremely excited by this news).

By "scrunchy-faced", you mean perpetually constipated. And, NOW he's "world-weary and cynical"?!? Excuse me, but I don't remember him being all puppies and sunflowers before. I'm really not sure about the sameness direction that this title seems to heading. Personally, I am more interested in Dead to Rights: Retribution, although the 2nd game was crap, I'm hoping the developers knew that and recaptured the first game's uniqueness. In Dead to Rights (original), Jack Slate, accompanied by his dog, wasn't a grim & gritty cop like every other Punisher clone anti-hero. This new Max Payne seems to be a game made in the ordinary dark and sulky character template.
A cover mechanic would actually suit Max Payne though so it would feel natural, rather than tacked on cause thats the fad lately. I think you guys are shitting on the game too early because this is Rockstar and they hardly ever make a bad game and their art style owns. You can't expect the game not to change cause if you get the same thing with better graphics then like Doom 3 you'll have everyone complaining it's nothing new. They just need to evolve the franchise in the right way and I'm sure rockstar will do that.
Just hope their PC version actually works unlike their recent games.
I loved both of the previous games with the whole noir atmosphere so I was excited to hear the announcement of Max Payne 3, but then again, wait a minute it's not Remedy anymore, it's one of Rockstar's developing studios and that sucks balls cause I'm afraid that instead of what could be one of the greatest game sequels in years we are gonna get GTA 4.5 without vehicles (on the other hand who knows about that vehicles). R* Vancouver made like one game, and that's Bully, yeah that's really awesome to give these guys Max Payne :/
I am not sure about Rockstar taking over on this. I need to go get a copy of Max Payne 2 and play that soon before 3 comes out though. I have only played through the original.
They had to make a Max Payne 3. After all of the publicity the Max Payne franchise got because of the movie it would be very odd if they didn't make another Max Payne squeal.
No no no no no no nonononono, this is all wrong. Max Payne was done, they finished the story! Mona's dead, Woden's dead, Vlad's dead, there's no conceivable way to extend the franchise. Max Payne as a franchise is finished, it had a beginning and it had an end, and theyre trying to resurrect it without even having the original dev team doing it. This just sounds like a terrible idea all around.
This is frustrating, especially coming from Rockstar, who I generally trust to make good decisions about their franchises. Max Payne rates as one of my top 3 favorite franchises of all time, so why in the hell must they run it into the ground?
The quote from Sam Houser makes it sound pretty bad ass!! Now that they can do more with the 360 and PS3, this might be the "Return of the King" of the franchise. I hope it doesn't get delayed. Fingers crossed!!
They have to change up the bullet time mechanic or put a new twist to the mechanic or else I'm not going to buy this game. When Max Payne was first released it was one of its standout features. Now bullet time has been done to death and its just not going to be as satisfying.
its not going to be the same, im expecting the story to be told in a different fation and to suck. I dont have high hopes for this one. Max Payne was good thanks to Remedy and thair view on NYPD detectives down on their luck. And the story was told in a really special way that i don't think some one else can do it just as good.

He looks too Sam Fisher-esque (before the Brian Ekberg style). I think they could have stuck with a Mark Wahlberg model and been fine. Doesn't really matter; I trust Rockstar.

I hope the "Dead Man Walking" mode returns (think thats what it was called). Basically just shoot dudes until you die. Because of that I kept returning to Max Payne 2 periodically for a long time. I honestly hope they get rid of the graphic novel-style cut scenes and the heavier than heavy-handed dialogue. GTA IV proved it is possible to do some honest-to-goodness dramatic scenes in-engine so I'm hoping for a story told in that manner. Also, want to shoot some dudes during the daytime. Thats all I can think of for now.
YES!!!! This has utterly made my day. Interesting thing is, I can't see this being messed up even with Remedy sadly out of the picture. Can't wait for it.
