Metal Gear Solid 5 Is Apparently Happening

The upcoming issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK will have Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima on the cover, and will apparently reveal his plans for the unannounced Metal Gear Solid 5.

You didn’t really think Kojima would leave the series behind after the last one, did you? C'mon, son.

Konami has not separately confirmed Metal Gear Solid 5, and it’s possible Kojima is hypothetically speaking about a sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Kojima just finished work on Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, has been teasing something new on Kojima Productions' new Fox Engine, and is also overseeing Zone of the Enders HD Collection. Metal Gear Solid: Rising will also be unveiled (again) at Spike TV's Video Game Awards awards next month, a game that he's working on but did not write or direct.

I’ve contacted Konami about today’s news, though I don’t expect to hear much (if anything) back.

Why is it such a shock that there will be a fifth game in a series? Shit, Call of Duty has had 5 releases in 4 years time since 2007.

I just want to replay MGS3 on 360 after I am done Skyrim completely. I didn't like MGS4 that much, but I will play MGS5.

I wonder what music device snake will use in this one.

Super happy about this. Metal Gear Solid games have been consistently amazing since MGS 3. That includes all the side games especially Portable Ops.

Kojima is going to be making MGS games until he's dust. Not sure how to feel about this. Love the games, but MGS20 is going to be weird when Solid Snake's great great grandson's leg starts talking to an AI of OG Otacon.

But...Zone of the Enders. Damn it, Kojima.

Excellent. I wasn't a big fan of the ZoE games so I'm much happier seeing him gearing up for another MGS. I think I'd rather have another prequel instead of a direct sequel to MGS4.

There's room in the Metal Gear fiction for stories, even more Snake stories... but not past MGS4 in the timeline.  Show Young Snake before the Outer Heaven incident in Metal Gear, or show him between Zanzibarland and Shadow Moses.  If you have to set it after MGS4, for the love of fuck, retire Snake as the playable character.  I think we'd all feel better if we could watch Snake die in peace.

I really don't like the pessimistic headlines. 'Oh i guess this is a thing' 'yea, that's happening apparently' etc etc. It's not only you that does this Patrick. It's just irritating. Some people might be excited for that next game that you guys apparently couldn't give a shit about. And if that isn't the intent of the headline, it certainly conveys a jaded tone.

Didn't Snake effectively die at the end of 4? I know it wasn't explicitly shown, but it was a pretty large thematic point...

If they brought him back again, then a lot of what makes 4 great is lost.

Snake can escape detection but Kojima can't escape Metal Gear.

I don't mind if it gets me more crazy cutscenes in a video game.

It better kill off Snake. Him dying at the end would have been pretty poetic. Could always play as a Snake clone in another one anyway.

I'm totally willing to play another MGS as I've pretty much loved all the main entries in the series. I'm willing to bet that it's 4+ years and another console in the future though.

They should really wipe the slate clean and start a new continuity or something. The mechanics are fine, but the story stuff is just so messy and incoherent they just need rid of it.

i hope this is actual news on a future product and not just ''i'd like to do metal gear 5 one day" or ''if i was going to do mgs5 this is how it would go" just to sell magazines,

if its genuinely a new title in the mgs franchise then i'm extremely happy and shocked at the same time, i wonder how/when/where and with which character it'll take place

more metal gear is good with me, just hope its real

also, considering they have rising possibly coming out 2012 and new consoles rumours are starting again with a 2012/2013 launch,

would announcing mgs5 not mean announcing a new console as well as it would be at least two years after rising?

They already did it with Peace Walker, but other than that YES!!!! I know he has to do it just to pay the bills though since it sells so well.

For the love of God, please don't do that. I like Snake just as much as the next guy, but let's move on. I guess that you could have him be a clone of Snake instead, or a clone of Big Boss' new corpse, or go in a million other directions, though. The fanbase is so rabid that that's probably what Kojima will have to do, and that's a bit of a shame.

Yeah but it's basically stated at the end of MGS4 that he'll be dead in like 3 months. If they go back on that, I'll completely disown whatever MGS5 is and never forgive Kojima.

Let your horribly written series die Kojima. Work on something different, and actually make it have gameplay that isn't interrupted with every 10 steps.
