Star Wars Kinect Still In The Works, Will Hit Late Next Year

The holidays are the best time to murder Sith scum.

It looks like it will be awhile before we can show Darth Vader what's up in Star Wars Kinect. In a conversation with the BBC, Xbox 360 creative director and Kinect evangelist Kudo Tsunoda said that the game is still in the works and will be released at some point during the holiday season...the 2011 holiday season . "We have a Kinect Star Wars game coming out for next holiday," he stated simply, confirming that it's still happening.

This is the first shred of news we've heard about the game since it made its debut at Microsoft's press briefing during E3 2010. And while we still don't if it's on-rails or not, at least the lightsaber play looks like it'll make it into the full release. "I think you could just easily imagine being a Jedi and using Kinect to make you feel you're part of a Star Wars experience," he said," building yourself up into a Jedi."

Dude is using Force Blur, obviously. It's a Sith thing. Trust us.

Among the other things we know about the game? If the demo level shown was, in fact, a real piece of the game as we were led to believe, then look forward to some Stormtrooper hacking, a little bit of Naboo exploration, and a face off against "Mr. No" himself, Lord Vader.

Right. Well after listening to part of the latest bombcast, looks
like the Kinect is gonna bomb like Game Room.  I've not made
any plans on getting it & the price definitely isn't right.  I think the
Kinect was the knee-jerk reaction to the Wii-threat & they wanted
to copy its success. But as pointed out in the bombcast, the cost
of the Xbox + the cost of the Kinect makes it too expensive. I could
go out & buy a gym membership, almost, for the price of a Kinect
& it would be better for me.

I still think that all the focus for Star Wars IP will stick with the upcoming
TOR game.  All other Star Wars games will just be expensive filler until
TOR begins to wane in success.  I hope they offer lifetime memberships.

Dudes at least get sliced in Force Unleashed 2. Still take too many hits, but now it's a little less of a glowbat.

As for this game, if it's uh-mazing and Kinect puts out an equally good MMA "training" game, then maybe the core will have something to play.

I don't see how they can do a satisfying lightsaber game without any force feedback.

@ProfessorEss:
I'm seriously doubting the ability of Kinect to ever get out of the 'Tech demo' hole.

I mean, Kinect seems to be EyeToy 2.0, and that thing NEVER got a genuine game. Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I can't see this thing being a viable method of playing games.

Games other than 'Throw Shit' and the less popular sequel 'Throw More Shit'.

Man, are they ever gonna give Star Wars a rest?  The last
movie was out years ago & they just keep grinding out more
crap. Anyone ever bother to look over the Star Wars Expanded
Universe shit?  They've got a timeline from tens of thousands
of years ago up to 150 years past Return of the Jedi.  Sadly after
glossing over all of that shit, it showed how static & unchanging
the Star Wars Universe is!   It made it pretty dull.  Some fucker
probably needs to do a Star Wars Reboot.

What fuckin' Lucas needs to come out with now are Star Wars
Dojos.  So you can learn the mixed martial art karate style of a
Jedi Warrior.  Hire some king-shit Karate Guru to design it.   It'll
spread like Mickey D's or Wal-marts all over the world & be
a billion dollar industry.

Part of the Jedi training will be to build your own Light Saber
Hilt with its own colored crystal inside.  Naturally the saber
won't work (physics/reality getting in the way), but the blade
will be there in a mystic Zen sort of way.

This game represents the opportunity for the Star Wars Kid to have a laugh at our expense.  I can imagine the You Tube videos for this.

Can we just let Darth Vader rest in peace? I'm so tired of seeing Lucasarts continually overuse and rape his character in EVERY Star Wars game.

I think this is the big mistake with Kinect... you can't really move no where!

The video they showed at E3 clearly wasn't even gameplay and was probably thrown together in 5 minutes just to say "hey, we have a Star Wars game".
I don't expect this to be anything particularly mind blowing, the movement limitations of Kinect are an issue for something like this.  But it could still be fun using the force powers and so forth and it could actually work pretty well as a slower paced RPG type thing.  But that's unlikely to happen.

Yeah, the footage was pretty terrible.  I went from extreme excitement to extreme disappointment in about 3 seconds.  I'd rather they just did a Kinect version of the Star Wars arcade game than continue development on this.

Kind of seems like an even more linear Force Unleashed, except you do that breaststroke motion a lot.

Yeah, the tech side of things works fantastic for me.
I'm kinda curious if something so flat and featureless like a green screen does more harm than good?

The software? That's a difference story.
Even if this game turns out to be good Dance Central isn't gonna be enough to hold me over for that long.

I didn't have to take the plunge on Kinect cause my wife was totally sold.
I hope, but I still question if this generation of Kinect will ever really get past the tech-demo/mini-game collection stage.

A Playstation Move version of the game, however, would be fun as hell. That I could totally see working as an on-rails game. Throw in some shooting stages a la Star Wars Trilogy Arcade and that would be a must-buy. "

its a double edged sword.....as you lose the feeling of holding a lightsaber on kinect.....but the force powers would be wank on move.

The trailer at E3 looked terrible. Hopefully with a whole years development to go, it might actually resemble a game rather than a tech demo by the time it is released.
