There's an Awful Lot of Famous People in Call of Duty: Black Ops' New Zombie Mode

Activision signs on Buffy, Machete, Freddy Krueger, Merle Dixon, and George A. Romero to kill some undead scum.

A few weeks ago when we reported Activision's announcement of the new Escalation DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops and its 1200 Microsoft Points pricing, some of you in the comments expressed a bit of dismay at the notion of paying $15 for four new maps and a then-ill-defined new zombie mode. Well, as of today's announcement from Activision regarding that previously ill-defined, and now fully-defined zombie mode, we now know where your $15 will actually be going: Danny Trejo's paycheck.

Yes, the great, inimitable Danny Trejo is starring in Treyarch's Black Ops' zombie DLC, titled Call of the Dead. But he's not the only one! Also on board are Sarah Michelle Gellar ( Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scooby-Doo), Michael Rooker ( The Walking Dead, Slither), Robert Englund ( A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Mangler) and, in perhaps the most amazing cameo of all, the BIG DOG PITBULL of the zombie genre, George A. Romero...as himself. Everyone's in-game characters are modeled after the real actors, so if you want, you can just pretend Danny Trejo is Machete, or that Robert Englund is playing the skeezy, germ-obsessed strip club owner from Zombie Strippers. I know I will.

There is also a full trailer for the DLC, which we have provided below. Because honestly, there is nothing worse than someone endlessly describing something to you when could just look at it yourself. Be sure and take note of every Grindhouse reference, as there will be a quiz later.  == TEASER ==

Obvious B-movie pandering aside, this actually looks kind of awesome. I'd say it looks awesome in a very Left 4 Dead kind of way, except that it would be inappropriate of me to draw direct comparisons to another game when I haven't even played Call of the Dead yet. Instead, I will simply mention Left 4 Dead, thus planting the bug in the brain of the reader that it could be similar to Left 4 Dead, and therefore manipulating you into making your own comparative statements in the comments and sparking ample discussion amongst yourselves, while I get away scot free and wipe my hands clean of the whole situation.

It's called journalism, people.

This sounds like Something Double Fine would think of, but would never get the funding to actually do.

Bloody brilliant. Surprised to see Englund on the side of the demonic slayers, rather than one himself, with him being so note worthy for playing the undead trickster child molester.

Spunky!

Where's that guy doing the nude-skins for L4D's Zoé when you need him? Buffy's muff needs some breathing space for sure.

Somebody make this standalone. I want to kill zombies with Machete, Buffy, Freddy Kruger, and Henry the serial killer without shitty Black Ops attached. Also because I traded my copy in a long time ago...

Very very cool, may have to pick up the game just for this.

Slightly amusing they used the "Do you wanna party" song from David Russo's 'Return of the Living Dead', seeing as how he and Romero are not very fond of each other.

Also holy shit. I know I'm being pandered to, but god damn that is some gooooooood panderin'. I might actually pick up Black Ops for this.

Fuck that! I know Simon Pegg has "geek cred" or whatever the fuck you wanna call it, but putting him in the game would have been even more blatant pandering than it is already. I would have been almost insulted if he were present.

At least with Michael Rooker it feels like more authentic pandering. Plus he has a cooler voice.

Can we please stop riding the whole "Grind House Zombie Movie" aesthetic? The movie came out in 2007. Crackly voices and overbearing film grain has been done, and done, and done.

Looks pointless and dumb and out of touch with what made this series good. Using hollywood actors just looks like they're desperate to make people care. Plus the whole grindhouse thing is so played out and dumb now... All that wrapped around more stupid Zombies, I guess that's three strikes for me. I really don't like what Treyarch gets away with now that IW isn't there to say no. But its Activision and its $15 so I wouldn't have bought it anyway. Whatever.

Aww Shit! I may or may not have made a few squeal like noises while watching this trailer. Please pander to me more video games, it doesn't happen nearly enough! It's like they thought of what i didn't know i wanted, then made it better. Man i forgot about how much I used to love Buffy... :( i miss that show. Oh and PS i really don't think three examples makes this style played out, some people just have to hate everything. It's as if once something is done no one may ever attempt to do something similar again. Which is just insane.

For the most part, I'm sick and tired of zombie-modes in FPS games but with that said, I am really impressed by this.  I probably wont get it but I give my props to Treyarch.

I love me some L4D and the black ops zombie mode. The only problem is that the price of the map pack essentially only applies to the zombie map since that is all I care about. Solution? Let my friend buy the map pack and play that.

It just drives me up the wall that no one respects Michael Rooker's b-movie cred!

Motherfucker was in Slither, Repo!, Undisputed, The 6th Day, The Marine 2, even The Replacement Killers!

But Simon Pegg gets in ONE good zombie movie and every nerd is worshiping at his altar.

Again, I prefer being pandered to with some effort, rather than the base, obvious "yo throw that british dude all the geeks love in there, that's a good boy treyarch"

Again. No idea where I've discredited his B-movie status by not finding him to be a very known actor when it comes to zombies, but hey sure. Whatever you say.
