Valve Grabs Another 10 Games From Greenlight

La-Mulana, DLC Quest and other notables included on the list.

No Caption Provided

Another round of games have been plucked from the Greenlight community for a proper spot on Steam, and Valve announced its latest picks today. 10 games are about to take the plunge.

Publishers who haven’t already worked with Steam in the past have to go through the Greenlight process now, as well, which is why games like Akaneiro: Demon Hunters and La-Mulana are on the list.

If you’ve played or checked out anything on this list that you’ve found particularly interesting, let me know.

Just checking: La Mulana's map is predetermined, like Metroid, right? Not random, like Spelunky?

That is correct.

La-Mulana is pretty fucking awesome. At first I thought it was just going to be a traditional Metroid style romp but, then the game world started to open up. The mix of high difficulty and huge variety of puzzles is what really surprised me about La-Mulana. Everything in the game feels as if it was there for a purpose. On top of all of this is an intriguing lore that surrounds the ruins as you explore.

The lack of Euro Truck Simulator 2 displeases me.

Why? It's already Greenlit, it just needs to be released.

From the Greenlight page:

Greenlit!
We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the big family of Euro Truck Simulator 2 fans! Your help was fantastic - our game is coming to Steam!

We'll be working hard to get ETS2 on Steam as fast as possible, but we have yet to take care of paperwork and handle all the technical details to make the Steam release happen, so please have patience with us.

That was at the beginning of December, so it shouldn't be too much longer.

While the game that got the greenlight was its sequel, I would like to point out that Eador Genesis is amazing... for someone like Dave or maybe Vinny.

Nothing that I see here that really screams buy me.

P.S. Where the hell is Black Mesa? I know I can download it but why is it not on steam? Didn't that thing get Greenlight?

Will probably be released once it's done. They're still missing the final couple of chapters.

I managed to find 7 games I had some marginal interest in after browsing through 459 that looked awful. This batch of 10 does not contain any of my favourites. I won't pretend that my personal disappointment and following disinterest matter in the grand scheme, but I know I won't bother looking more at Greenlight. That could spell trouble for them if it's a shared sentiment among steam users.

So glad to see War For The Overworld on this list, looks like a new & improved Dungeon Keeper game with some recent stuff for it on Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Not sure on the others with this list.

Weak. The racing game, Distance, by the Nitronic Rush guys should've made the cut over Leisure Suit Larry, at the least. Nothing against LSL especially, it just seems like more of a nostalgia/retro reference game than an actual....GOOD game. An itch that's fine to scratch, but not when other games are actually trying to find a foothold and get into the market.

I would almost agree with you, but they are almost like 2 completely different games when you compare the PC and iPad versions.

There's something raw about the PC version where it almost feels like a typing game, capturing almost the same urgency and magic of Typing of the Dead. The iPad version while still a great and quality version, feels like more of a known quantity. The iPad version is clearly the better fitting shoe, but something about using the keyboard for input on this game makes it really special.

Some of these look cool but the continued lack of The Pinball Arcade on Steam is really distressing and makes me wonder if I really want the steam community to have this much say in what goes up. How the hell does a game with tables licensed from The Twilight Zone and Star Trek not immediately get fast tracked on to the service? Last I hard they were only in the top 80 or something, but I'm sure all the people who voted for the game would pay for some tables as well.

It's fine that valve have democratized their service but it seems that in some instances more niche games are going to get the shaft in favor of more in vogue indie puzzle platformers and horror games.

It's a shame. Every time they announce more games have been green-lighted, I keep hoping The Pinball Arcade finally gets the go ahead but no luck. I'd be willing to part with 15 or 20 bucks to be able to play the Twilight Zone board, even if it's just a digital recreation, again.

I have DLC Quest. The only thing notable about it is how little of a game there actually is to it. Looks feels and lasts as long as a mediocre free flash game.

Is it the original or the upcoming Kickstarted remake? Either way, Leisure Suit Larry was once pretty well-regarded as far as adventure games go.

I wouldn't say it similar to splunkny that much. The jumping is kinda off in La-Mulana but it still a very good tough and maybe unfair game :)

Hopefully it comes to Steam sooner than later. Can't wait for that game. Assuming it's episodic content, we'll be doing a little bit more waiting in between episodes...
