What Was Up With That Contra Teaser At the End of the Konami Press Conference?

I grew up with Contra, so I'll most likely play/try anything they put out.
 
Hopefully it's along the lines of Shadow Complex (but not a clone), and I hope they don't mess it up like the Rush'n Attack reboot.

I guess someone didn't get the memo stating that there shouldn't be anything interesting in the Konami "Press Conference".

I hope this is 2d and closer to the style of Shattered Soldier or Hard Corps. But my instincts tell me they're going to try to capture the mythical western market with a FPS bearing the Contra name.

I know I'm the only one, and everyone else loves it, but man I can scarcely think of another franchise I would less like to see another game for.

I was wondering what Jeff and Ryan laughed at the end of the conference, I wasn't looking at the screen. That said, I could actually go for a new Cybernator (but I guess a new Contra is cool...).

Oh, that's what that was. I'm perhaps not as familiar with the Contra series as I should be. I guess it kinda makes sense considering all the classic franchises they're re-releasing and continuing.

I love me some Contra, Alien Wars and 4 are two of my favorite games of all time, but hopefully its just of the side scrolling sort. I don't think turning it into a FPS or a 3rd person, over the shoulder shooter is a good idea at all. This isn't 1999, 2D games can exist perfectly well along with 3D games, we don't need subpar shooters for the sake of shaking things up.

I fail to be impressed or eager to see this.
 
I'll follow it, because i WOULD love to see a new "good" Contra game made.

The last contra game that was somewhat good I remember was the DS one where they purposely made it look retro. The others....not so much, at this day and age I wonder how you update to this new age.

I wanna see a new NES contra game :D.

If this is going to be a standard 2D Contra game then either the 3DS or NGP/Vita.  If it's one of these newfangled 3D Contras then lets see what it can do on Nintendo's Project Cafe.  Otherwise, I don't care because the past 3D Contras weren't anything special.

As much as I love Contra, I don't think it really works nowadays. I mean, look at Contra 4 on the DS. That was a good game, but one that I didn't really care to play after 15 minutes. The things that define Contra --its style, difficulty etc-- appeal to a very niche audience, I believe. The only way they'd be able to create something interestng out of the series is to go to extremes and redo it, but that would displease fervent fans. In the end, I don't think there's anything you can do with the franchise but to let it sleep and be nostalgicaly remembered.

Man that whole press conference was something. I am just not sure what.

I think they put in 'They are Coming' because its a contra game where you fight a horde or Orcs for 2 hours, followed by a massive end boss of half the game against a Balrog.

I just hope its better then that crappy Wii Virtue Console game they released.

God damn, Giantbomb, you guys walked out on us last night before you could witness the awesomeness of the teaser last night after we were telling you about this.  I don't blame you guys though as Konami's press conference was extremely boring.
