Activision and Treyarch have confirmed another one of those "worst kept secrets" earlier this morning by announcing that Call of Duty: Black Ops will indeed feature our favorite undead friends in the shooter's co-op component. Specifically, Black Ops' zombie mode, much like the one in World at War's before it, will have you and up to four other dudes beating back waves of moaning, brain-hungry hordes.
The omission of the word "Nazi" is making us think that Treyarch probably has something up its sleeves in regards to what kind of zombie we'll be squaring off against in the Cold War-set game, but the studio has yet to drop that (admittedly dull) bit of information. A recent Brady Games official guide leak did, however, peg the zombies as Nazis, which should keep most fans happy.
Speaking of fans, Treyarch hopes to make them happy by dropping in something a little extra special into the mode. At least, that's what we think this tease is getting at: "We've taken extra special care to retain the essential ingredients of our zombie game," Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said in a statement, "and have also crafted a nice surprise for the fans [of the mode]."
As the Hardened and Prestige editions of the games leaked prior to today's confirmation, Treyarch is recreating four bundle-exclusive World at War maps for use with Black Ops' zombies co-op mode. It is still unknown if these maps will ever become available for owners with peasant editions of the game (or at what price they'll presumably be offered at), but, hey, zombies! How could you get possibly get mad about an audience-splitting experience from the get-go when it involves zombies, right?

Never understood the love for this thing. When my friend made me play this on world at war I just kept thinking about playing a better survival game called left 4 dead.
Glad they confirmed it, I was worried for a bit. Guess I'll have to get hardened so I can get the maps from CoD: World at War. Hopefully if they do stick with Nazi zombies, they don't also stick with lame-ass WW2 weaponry.

And yet I still refuse to play any game published by Activision simply because I will not condone increasing the base price of all games so Bobby can buy another island. It may be a fun game to play sure, but there's plenty of other great titles that aren't being released by companies who are trying as hard as they can to inflate the market value of each purchase.
Awesome news. I'm glad they are including this again. Yeah, Left 4 Dead is a much better zombie game, but that's a full on game. This is just additional filler on top of the CoD game modes. Thanks for the Zombie icing on this already delicious looking Black Ops cake! I really hope Black Ops seals it for Treyarch. W@W had a lot of things I enjoyed (Co-Op Campaign, the Gore, Zombies) but I felt ultimately fell short of the MW games based on the crappy guns alone. I like rooting for the underdog and would love to see Treyarch finally come out on top.

" It is now called Nova and has both World War II weapons and more recent weapons. There are 3 modes in the Nova missions. The first is Outbreak which is the standard zombie survival mode we all know. The second is Escape where players have to run through specificcheckpoints before a timer runs out. The third is Lifeline where two players battle against each other killing zombies to get points separately. In Outbreak mode each player can choose their beginning loadout with 2 perks. The perks are not yet certain but it seems to be Sleight of hand, marathon, lightweight and drag-a-buddy."
