Yoshi's Real Name Is...T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas?

If this is "too weird not to share" then I hope Patrick never accidentally watches a Luis Buñuel movie or anything.

I immediately thought "Tiberius." Just finished listening to the podcast so that explains it. Seriously though, why would they give him such a long name, but not include his first name!? What the hell does the T stand for!? I can't wait to tell my friend and ruin his week.

I will now be referring to Yoshi as Mr Munchakoopas until he tells me otherwise.

Man, I ain't callin' Yoshi shit til we hear from Japan.

Ah, 90s Nintendo of America, trying to make sense of Shigeru Miyamoto's mind in a US-marketable, Saturday morning cartoon-like way instead of taking it for the lysergic Japanese rabbit hole that it is.

I guess it would offend me more if Nintendo games weren't designed to absorb the bastardization process in the first place.

I am basically completely sure that this is not Yoshi's "real" name but rather a dumb bit of random info some Nintendo of America dude made up when he had nothing better to do. I really don't think this weird piece of trivia needs to be posted on every game site as if it's some grand revelation.

Sidenote: What in the world is the difference between yo-shi and yosh-i? Those sound identical to me and the argument is dumb.

The T. presumably stands for Tyrannosaurus. Yoshi is related to the T. Rex. Yet more proof he's awesome.

@patrickklepek: That's not his real name, unless you consider your real name to be "H. Sapiens Sapiens." All this means is that Jeff is right and that yoshis are so disposable they don't even have names. The name Yoshi is the equivalent of naming a cat " Cat."

Alright kids let me explain this to you. You see there were these wildly popular cartoons about a coyote and a roadrunner and at the start of each episode they were given funny Latin names like "Carnivorous Vulgaris" or "Accelerati Incredibles". So "T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopa" is not Yoshi's name it's his joke Latin name. It was just some copy writer's idea of a joke.

But, @patrickklepek... this isn't true. It seems like a clear misunderstanding that many people are running with.

His name is Yoshi. His species is properly known as T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas. Like a T. Rex or a H. Sapien. Or Mario's "H. Nintendonus" mentioned in the same sentence. H. Nintendonus isn't Mario's real name; it's his made-up species name. If anything, the news here is that Mario isn't a human being.

On Yoshi's Island, there are other Yoshisaurs like him, but Yoshi is a specific green Yoshisaur. Yoshi is Yoshi.

This is all very silly. heh.
