    Assassin's Creed III

Game » consists of 24 releases. Released Oct 30, 2012

The fifth console entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise. It introduces the half-Native American, half-English Assassin Connor and is set in North America in the late eighteenth century amid the American Revolutionary War.

Is it necessary to play Revelations before this one?

It's 50% off on steam, but I don't wanna play that one if I don't need to so I can understand anything in AC3.

So is it necessary or not?

    Spoilers:

Also Lucy was actually a Templar. It's a fun game (besides the tower defense) but it's not a big enough step to warrant a full release.

It was still a good game but if you're planning on getting ACIII on release day there's zero reason to play Revelations.

You can literally piece together everything you need to know in Brotherhood.

Just watch the last cutscene on Youtube.

The funny part is that is either implied, or straight up mentioned in the first game. I had played every subsequent game with that assumption. So fuck... you're telling me I wasted the 60$ and 15 or so hours I put into the game before giving up on it, due to having accidentally bought a tower defense game?

Man.... well it wouldn't be first time.

I just don't get why they needed that many games to tell such a simple and boring story. Desmond's, I mean.

It was from the DLC for revelations. An audio log apparently.

@david3cm: In the DLC where you play as subject 16, the templars are able to convince lucy that the assassins have abandoned her and that she should work for the templars.

If you want closure on how Ezio's story ends.... then yeah play it... if not, you can probably just jump into AC3 to continue Desmond's story.

The Desmond stuff in Revelations is essentially just a recap of the previous games, you learn nothing new.

People still can't stop bitching about the tower defense part of the game? Yes it was bad but you only had to do it a handful of times and most of the missions were mind numbingly easy.

Yeah, it was crappy and unexciting, but to be fair, you only had to do it once. It was pretty easy to ignore otherwise.

It was in DLC, which is a bullshit way to write off a main character. It's almost like Kristen Bell couldn't find time to reprise her role so they killed her character, got pissed and retroactively made her a bad guy. It was shitty writing at it's worst.

Well I had to a bunch of times, unless I wanted to give up all my bases and stuff. Unless that stuff doesn't matter, then maybe I'll just rush through the rest of the game.

Like other said, it isn't that big of a deal to stop you from understanding the next one - but I do think it had some incredible moments which make it to me a worth playing game in its own right outside of all the lore. But I really think those that really care about the story should play it (although they likely already have by now) - there are some really good non-essential-for-main-story moments which add a lot. Like simply the way they set-up, designed and paced the final moments of that game is much more signifcant when you actually play it than by just reading the essential stuff here. (They way they handled Altair's death to me was easily the best part of the game and one of the most iconic moments of the entire series)

@Marz: I think brotherhood would have been a better end for him. Seeing him rise up and rebuild the assassins works pretty well for him going from care free rich boy to mature leader. All revelations added was he went on a trip one time to collect some cds. Also there was some Italian lady, the end

I wasn't a fan of the tower defense, but I only did it during that "tutorial" at the beginning of the game. It mentioned that if my bases were ever attacked I would have to do it again, but they were literally never attacked. Was this something that only happened when your notoriety was full and red? It would make sense if that was the case, since I'd usually reduce my notoriety as soon as it went up.

Also, along with the farm thing, it tells us what Altair/Ezio did as they got older. Not necessary unless you really want more Assassin's Creed.

Yeah, I remember them mentioning Desmond having grown up with Assassins some time in the first game. Or perhaps I read it somewhere else. Maybe in the hidden files?
