BATTLEFIELD 3 Elite Service annouced free of charge
Wonder if the drum roll was a direct quote.
Either way, I'm glad they are inserting a similar feature. Don't give a fuck that it's a stab at Activision who wants to charge for it.

Sounds good, because this is something that should be free.
All the stat tracking stuff in BC2 is really solid so I look forward to thisYeah, it's actually the first game I ever cared about stats in.
Yeah, especially since Bad Company 2 already had a very good stat tracking system.Sounds like something they would have been working on anyway, they just heard the Call of Duty announcement and lolololed.
I really wish Dice would stop being so reactionary to everything Activision does. It makes them look petty.
Really? Better online infrastructure for social interactions in a Battlefield game (or CoD as a matter of fact) is a useless feature? How exactly does that make sense? It's probally a way to laugh at kotick, saying charging for useless features?
Sounds like PC players will be able to VoIP-up outside of servers and independently of servers. Like party chat on XBL. And more than 20 players on the friendslist will be a godsend. Gonna be awesome for the BF community.

Why would you want to get this for free when you can look at heat-maps and other fun statistics for a monthly fee?
I don't know that this is so much the same thing as Elite. I may be wrong, but I think you get all of that basic functionality from Elite for free, but are paying for "free" access to the map packs, etc.
If DICE isn't offering that, then they really aren't one-upping them.
I love how EA continually cock slaps Activision over every single thing they do by doing it better. Good on them.
I really wish Dice would stop being so reactionary to everything Activision does. It makes them look petty.Gotta kinda agree. It's funny at first, but gets weirder the more often they do it. Like the BC2 campaign. I probably smiled and rolled my eyes at the first few stabs at COD, but when I was nearing the end of the campaign and they were still saying stuff like "SNOW MOBILES ARE FOR PUSSIES!", it was a little odd.
That's nice to hear.
I'm still waiting for the day that I boot up my PS3 or XBox and find every panel in their "Spotlight" tabs permanently occupied by a bunch of publishers' "deluxe passes".
stat tracking for elite is free stop being a fanboy
you pay for mappacks with COd elite
This. Do people not read the content on this site or even listen to the Bombcast anymore?

And that gentlemans goes back to Battlefield 2 robust stat data track ... Just go check this site www.bf2s.com
Someone's gotta bring Bobby Kotick's head down from the clouds. The fact is, is some stuff just doesn't warrant a subscription fee. Doesn't really matter to me, however, because I won't be buying MW3 and have had Battlefield 3 preordered for a while.
All of the DLC maps were free with that VIP code for Bad Company. Think about it.stat tracking for elite is free stop being a fanboy
you pay for mappacks with COd elite
OH SNAP
As for people saying it's petty:
Activision takes shots at EA
EA takes shots at Activision
And I'd rather see them take PR shots at each other rather then waste thousands of $ on lawyers in lawsuits like with IW debacle.

Yea, I know. I read afterwards that it was taken from a blog. Thought it was an interview or something. :P

But not really, since a lot of CoD elite is free, and probably all of that stat tracking shit is. The only real paid content of significance is the map packs, and I doubt BF3 has free DLC so...
Seems like an expansion on what they've always done with stat tracking. I love it when EA talks shit on COD.
It's astounding that when COD announces some stat tracking garbage that they should have had all along, people love it. When EA says "we've been doing this forever, so fuck you guys" they come off as petty to those same people. "Fuck chicken, I like eggs!"

It's not as if anyone on the EA side invented stat tracking either, certainly not in this form. It's a billion dollar corporation talking shit to another billion dollar corporation about something that isn't very important, and neither really has a claim to. That's about as petty as it gets.
