GamesCom Battlefield : Bad Company 2 Trailer

In a similar fashion as the Forza 3 team did call out Gran Tourismo 5 @ E3, DICE did call out Infinity Ward at this year EA pressconference @ GamesCom. According to DICE, they have tremendous respect for Infinity Ward, as well as for the upcoming game, CoD : Modern Warfare 2, but DICEs game, Battlefield : Bad Company 2, will blow it out of the water. The definite multiplayer FPS of 2010. DICE wants to achieve that lofty goal with 'Vehicular Warfare', 'Squad-Play' and 'Destruction'.

What's your take on DICEs bold statement?

Personally - I am a DICE/Battlefield fan and agree with DICE, Battlefield : Bad Company 2 will be the best multiplayer FPS yet. Of course, I will get them both, especially since Modern Warfare 2 is coming out a half a year before Bad Co.2, so it's no head to head competition.

That's proabably a really dumb thing to say if you look at the overall quality of the two franchises and even if you were to compare COD4 and BC Call of Duty wins by a landslide in just about every category. (Other than shooting the middle of a building and the left half explodes)

DICE thinks their game will blow Modern Warfare 2 out of the water?

    I laughed.

I'll get both games, but I think that is a silly thing to say. Neat trailer though.

Sounds like typical PR marketing speak to me. I hope both games do well although I didn't play the 1st Bad Company.

DICE is currently still working on the technology for BF 3. Namely the Frostbite Engine 2.0. It will support DX 11. Don't expect BF 3 to come out anytime soon. I doubt, that there will be any information on BF 3, before E3 2010. It is still very far off. Also, don't underestimate BF:BC 2 - it will be fun-freaking-tastic!

Check out this slideshow by an actual Frostbite Engine engineer explaining stuff they're doing for Frostbite Engine 2.0.

To me they are 2 different games in the same category(shooter).  Cod is more fast paced with almost no teamwork, no vehicles. BF is all about teamwork, vehicles, and tactics.

Honestly though cod has only made 1 game thats very popular which is Cod:MW, All the rest were okay. Looka at DICE,they made 1942, Vietnam, BF2, etc.

Although I respect both Companies, I look forward to BC2 on PC more. The trailer was freakin aweome!! Also expect more new.

Comparing one fast paced scripted shooter to a slower paced, tactical squad based experience?  This makes no sense.  They'll both be great in their own right.

I really can't stop laughing right now. MW2 will be better than BC2 by a mile. BC2 will fail again just like the first, and even if it gets more things right, it still won't even be close because of how much they've buttered what used to be "Battlefield". Its hilarious really that this happened, they don't stand a chance.

Knowing Dice, BC2 Multiplayer could be pretty spectacular. I mean they DID make several of the best online multiplayer FPS's ever made.

But let's face it, even if Modern Warfare 2 was released and all the players in Matchmaking were a bunch of lego blocks shooting red things at each other, it has the brand power, and would still sell 1.4 billion copies. BC2 just doesn't have such a big backing from it's previous games.

    We'll see.

These new screenshots reveal the customizable nature of BF : BC 2. On fly weapons customization (like switching from ironsights to ACOG), as well as the customizable outfits (for tons of more bad assery). Apparently there will be 14.000 different gear variations. Impressive!

Call of Duty is fun and all, but Battlefield is just way more appealing to me, with all the grand battles, explosions, squad-based tactics, etc. it just feels like a  more complete fps game.

All I know is that BF Bad Company has very jerky aiming compared to Call of Duty.  I will get Bad Company 2 for PC though, that will fix the problem.  I will also get MW2 for PC.

Yeah I know, but I figure it won't feel so dumbed down if I use a mouse and keyboard.  The only thing I'm worried about is if every BC2 map is a snow map, I know they're trying to make it look different from the first (and other shooters), but seeing the same old frozen maps will get tiring.  Oh, and battlefield 2 patch is finally coming out on sept 1st, fixing up hit detection and stuff so I hear.

I'm currently into BF:BC's multiplayer and it is awesome. In addition, the sequel looks like it will be superior in every aspect with the addition of parachutes, black hawk choppers, and being able to destroy pieces of concrete walls in the multiplayer.

Erm. Actually the ballistics simulation in the Battlefield franchise is pretty realistic. You just got to learn, how to lead your target.

And how is Bad Company dumbed down in comparison to any prior Battlefield game? I've played them all and it is the most complex. Rushmode is a godsend. Destruction and Ground Deformation has a big impact on gameplay.  Multi-tier maps bring a campaign narrative into multiplayer. It enables designers to change up the map-balance and its gameplay focus, as they see fit. There are so many angles to be played, so many distinct weapons and skills to be mastered, so many dynamic playerdriven events to be experienced. Needless to say, I'm still playing Goldrush frequently. Since BF:BC was released, it is my gaming baseline. If I don't play something else, I'll be playing Bad Company multiplayer. It still gets my heart racing. It doesn't feel like a console game at all. Console games usually don't do, what Battlefield : Bad Company does. You expect such a game to be a PC game and it feels a lot like that. An action game for the thinking man.

The Frostbite engine is one of the most underrated pieces of software technology. It's up there with the Cry-Engine. Massive maps, with nearly 100% interactive environments, very good viewing distance, generally good graphics and the best surround sound in the business. Everything tailored for a competitive online environment. At the latest, Frostbite 2.0, which will be used for the upcoming Battlefield 3 (will be at E3 2010), will blow your freaking minds. And so will Battlefield : Bad Company 2, if you got a healthy set of eyes, ears and mind - that is.

Bad Company does definitely NOT feel like a PC game. Coming from playing Battlefield games on the PC, ask anyone that isnt mentally retarded and they will tell you the same thing that BC was nothing more than dumbed down battlefield. No one is saying you cant enjoy it a lot, thats fine, but it doesnt change what it is.

I guess, that's your jaded PC enthusiast bias talking. It very much depends on who's with you on the server. Skilled veterans or a bunch of nubs.

    Tank warfare - check
    Chopper warfare - check
    Naval warfare - check
Deep classbased infantry gameplay  - check
    Huge, open maps - check
    teambased gameplay - check
    squad mechanics - check

Planes are missing, as is the commander. Well, I don't miss the planes. As for the commander, two kits got gadgets, that are an equivalent of one of the commanders powers.

    Recon - Sensorballs aka UAV
    Support - mortarstrike aka arty

Anyways - it seems you just haven't given BF:BC a fair shake. It takes a lot of playtime to master every kit, every vehicle and develop a Battlefield personality. Each map can be tackeled from countless angles. And believe me, the more focused nature of Goldrush forces you to experiment. Sometimes only bold, fresh and aggressive angles succeed. Battlefield for men with balls of steel.

I think I should link a couple of gameplay montages for you. If that ain't Battlefield on steroids, you got a blindspot on your eyes.

Obviously saying your opinion is trolling nowadays. "
But you weren't. You were saying every game in the series sucks, which you don't know, because normal people don't play every game in a series if it sucks, so you either are lying about playing all of them or you're stupid enough to keep going back to a series you hate half a dozen times. So which is it? Idiot or liar?

Doesn't matter, Call of Duty is the best playing, controlling, feeling FPS to ever grace consoles, so unless Battlfield completely steals the code from IW, it won't touch Modern Warfare 2.

While I really did like Bad Company that statement is very un-realistic.
