Route 666, nuff' said. This is one of the absolutely most retarded ass backwards designed out of place wart on the nose of the Mona Lisa stages I have ever played in my life. It is quite literally concentrated failure in digital form. Not since the escort stages in the two Otogi games last generation on Xbox have I played a stage that so nearly single handedly ruined what was otherwise a really fantastic game. The Space Harrier tribute stage is poorly executed as well, and lasts too damned long. But Route 666 is the stage that really holds the game back in the biggest way to me. The Space Harrier stage at least is basically fair, and has decent enough controls.
The motorcycle section of Route 666 however is full of cheap shots, and just has terrible slippery controls. DMC3 just plain flows better, and that is why I still consider it the better game, and best action game of all time. You don't interrupt one of the greatest action games ever made by having two stages basically play like two entirely different, and completely inferior, games unto themselves. You just do not, it serves no useful purpose or function, and it detracts from the package as a whole. This is why I've always said that when developers do something different just for the sake of being different, the results are always, without exception, fail. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. It's the single factor that will keep me from considering Bayonetta a GOTY candidate this year. It really is that bad.
Your whole game should always stick with what it does well. I can understand trying to shake things up and avoid monotony and repetition, but with a combat system this fun and over the top, like DMC3, the entire game could have consisted solely of it... and not many people would really have cared. Repeating something is not so bad when it's something as awesome as this. Route 666 on the other hand, is something I will never subject myself to again. Poor form, Kamiya, very poor.

Bayonetta is a "non-stop action game" from PlatinumGames. The titular character is a witch who can use hair-based magic, as well as firearms attached to her feet, to battle fallen angels and other foes.
One good reason this game fails to top DMC3
I think you're over reacting quite a bit. While I agree it was a bit too long (did mine in 10ish minutes) I like the brief change of scenery. I'm not sure I understand what you are implying so correct me if I'm wrong. I interpret your meaning like this: The space harrier level was basically fair which implies the motorcycle level is basically unfair.
I personally didn't notice anything unfair in the level, could you clarify? In my opinion it is the easiest non-boss level to platinum in the game.
Lastly, what you are saying is unwise. I want to see games take risks, I want them to try new things. If games in this genre stop evolving we'll get lower quality not higher.
"Cheap shots"????? I mean the controls are a bit wonky when it comes to doing the jumps on side roads and stuff but almost everything can be avoided with a lot of ease using the dodge button. Even the when a closing barrier is all the way down it can be bypassed damage free using the slide.... I think I got Platinum on that stage first time through on Normal.
it's easily the easiest stage in the game.
I liked it. To much of a good thing isn't all that Great either. As someone who played that game in two long sittings, I like the fact that they mixed the gameplay up a bit. Plus, that motorcycle sequence near the end looks just Awesome.

I'm pretty sure I never took damage that entire level my first time through... just keep sliding and nothing can hurt you.
I enjoyed the change of pace and thought it was silly, crazy fun. Reminded me of FFVII in a way :D
Ah well, to each their own. It will certainly continue to be a contender on my GotY list. ME2, however, shall not be on that list. Bwahahaha!
All you have to do is stay on the shoulder and dodge like it's nobody's business. Nothing can hit you then. Besides I actually found the thing kind of fun. Saying that Route 666 and The Space Harrier level ruins the game is far from the truth though - the rest of the game is just too good.
Saying that "you do not" do something, doesn't make it so. Adding in a little variety to the game, and to the pacing, was a very smart design choice. The motorcycle and missile-flying levels totally turned the game on its head, and gave you something unexpected. Which is what this game is all about, blowing away your expectations. The motorcycle level was the easiest level in the game, why would anyone have problems with it? It's a generic driving game. I think people who've been having problems with this level might've just button-mashed their way there, and now that a little bit of finesse and co-ordination is asked of them; they fail.
I really don't understand why everyone rages about Route 666. It was not that long -- I actually felt that it could've been a bit longer -- and I can't recall running into any "cheap shots" over the course of my three playthroughs. Pretty much everything can be avoided simply by dodging.
My only complaint is that on my first time through it was difficult to gauge weapon range and power which just encourages holding down the shoot button because there's no reason not to.
I don't get the hate for this section. I don't think it's that great and it is definitly a few minutes too long, but it's hardly game destroying. Same thing with the rocket level. Neither are my favourite parts of the game, but neither would prevent me from revisiting it either
Chapter 8 and 14 are pretty terrible. They're too long, too repetitive and you can't really see all that much, especially in Chapter 8. Chapter 14's only saving grace is the awesome boss fight at the end. But it sucks that I have play through the terrible sections to get to that fight when I replay it.
Unexpected and blatantly inferior to the rest of the game, yes. If a girl was giving you a blowjob, then dropped her panties and took a crap on you, that would be unexpected as well, but it would also ruin the mood. To me, that's what happened in Route 666, my blowjob turned into a bad scat porn." Saying that "you do not" do something, doesn't make it so. I thought it was a nice, having varirety and such.
If you are thinking when playing this game, then u are doing it wrong!
btw, in what way did Bayonetta try to beat DMC 3?
Was that the intention?
seriously, Bayonetta makes Dante look like a lazy bum with all the crazyness she does!
I have only played DMC 4 btw.
That sequence was a bit long, but its was easy as hell. I never died and I think I only got hit like once or twice. I have no idea what this kid is talking about, the only thing I can think is that he somehow has never played a racing game so doesnt understand how to control a motor vehicle in game.
" @Arjuna said:Good lord it was not that bad. Someone needs to put their big girl panties on. It's a great game, and yes everyone is entitled to thier opinions.
