Exciting, over the top, and incredibly satisfying 1

Being the mastermind behind the original Devil May Cry and hence a pioneer of sorts of the "character action game", Hideki Kamiya had a lot to live up to with Bayonetta, the game that many consider the spiritual successor Devil May Cry. However, Bayonetta exceeds expectations by not only delivering a tight, well executed gameplay experience but also offering delightfully over the top and campy narrative filled with great tongue-in-cheek dialogue.  From the first moment you step foot into the wo...

A Blush Worthy Good Time - A Bayonetta Review 1

BayonettaPublisher: SegaDeveloper: Platinum GamesPlatforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360 (reviewed)From just looking at the packaging, it should be evident what to expect from a game like Bayonetta. From the flattering backside view on the back of the box to her playful wink printed on the disc, the feeling of overt sexuality is present before the game even starts. Once it does however, it doesn't let up as it is soon coupled with an over the top adventure that will certainly leave players wit...

Seriously bizarre albeit seriously awesome 0

Pretty lights often lead to confusion and dead angels. If one was to inquire about what games they should purchase for their entertainment needs titles like God of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and stuff like Batman: Arkham Asylum would come up undoubtedly. Bayonetta bends that talk in a unique direction but will no less be added to this list of must-play action titles. But coming from the mind of DMC creator Hideki Kamiya, that was almost a sure-fire bet anyhow.  What’s different...

Before anyone starts acting like an escapee from an insane asylum, I have the rights/permission to use these images. Thanks! -RC    When one mentions Sega, the first thing that comes to mind, for most people, is a spiky blue hedgehog. However, Sega has taken steps over the past couple years to let people know there is a lot more to them than our superfast friend. First came Jack in last year's sleeper hit Madworld, with his chainsaw and the game's Sin City style sending gamers into a frenzy. Now...

Ryu Hayabusa has some new competition! 1

For those of you that don't know Ryu Hayabusa (  隼・リュウ )  , from the critically acclaimed fast paced hack-and slash ninja action game - ninja Gaiden, meets some heavy competition from Bayonetta. Bayonetta is a witch, and apperantly lost all her memories. The only thing she remembers is that she is powerful and from a clan of witches known as the Umbra Clan. At first glance, Bayonetta looks like another standard button mashing hack and slash game, however looks are very deceiving, just lik...

Here is a common scenario that aspiring electronic video gamers can look forward to upon booting up Bayonetta. The player, a leather-clad witch of abnormal height, will leap across the screen doing battle with angelic monsters. You will fire guns strapped to your arms and legs and batter enemies with giant fists and legs manifested from your hair. Your hair also doubles as the material for your clothing, so the more elaborate your attacks, the more skin is revealed. You can also spank your enemi...

    Hair Punch! 0

Leggy Superasskicker Bayonetta, at normal difficulty, is hard as hell. When you're doing poorly, the game's advice to you is to play the game better. Maybe if you hit the correct buttons, you'd have more success. Seems hard to argue the point. This game pulls no punches, but offers some clever upgrades to help you in a pinch. It also offers an "easy" and "very easy" mode, which at certain points in my play through I was pining for. Bayonetta's story, at any difficulty, is totally batshit cr...

WHO KNEW SKIMPILY DRESSED LIBRARIANS COULD KICK SO MUCH ASS!Let's get one thing straight, librarians are rarely sexy. There usually mature ladies dressed to high heavens in three layers of wool, and dressed in a horrid coloured skirt that goes right down to their ankles and probably sipping a nice cup of tea. They won't suddenly start attacking angelic creatures who appear in the non-fiction aisle, they won't suddenly generate huge monsters from the fabrics of their cloths and they probably woul...

For the people at home who want an easy game, I don't recommend Bayonetta. This game is a challenge to say the least, but you get pretty damn good fairly quickly. But as I said, for about the first couple of hours be prepared to have a few retries Bayonetta is a game that was released in 2009, and it doesn't look too bad. Plus it has a fantastic sense of scale, second only to God of War.They throw you right into the action during the intro without telling you a single thing. LADIES AND GENTLEMA...

In the words of Bayonetta herself, "Mwah" 0

It would be very easy for Bayonetta to make itself an excruciatingly hard game - indeed in spots it comes very close - but although the combat system may be deeper than a single playthrough will lead you to believe, the game is very good at only revealing its complexity to those who want to find it. It seems Hideki Kamiya has learnt his lesson from directing the first Devil May Cry game in this regard, because Bayonetta's difficulty level makes it a very easy game to enjoy.Much of this ease come...

As long as there's music, I'll keep on dancing. 0

Describing the world of Bayonetta in any way that makes sense would require a whole lot more familiarity and understanding of just what the heck is happening in that game than I posses, so I'm just going to say that this game is completely bananas, and leave it at what little I do know.  You take the role of a ridiculous, over-sexualized witch named Bayonetta who uses her dark witchy powers to fight against a horde of insane looking monsters, which I believe mostly originate from Heaven.  I don...

Video Review: Super Nuts. Super Fun. 0

Link because embedding doesn't workThis is my video review of Bayonetta. I uploaded this shortly after the game came out but I'm in the process of putting up all my video reviews on my actual review page. I also need to have this been 100 words so in short: Bayonetta is a completely insane game that is memorable if nothing else. The combat system is very in depth, but the game's demanding difficulty and arcane mechanics and story elements may deter some people from completing the game....

I've got a fever. And the only cure is more dead angels. 0

I never really got into Devil May Cry back in the day. The mix of shooting and swordplay felt a little weird, and the overly melodramatic and edgy tone just didn't sit well with me. That's why I was a bit hesitant to give Bayonetta a try, given all the comparisons that were being drawn between the two. Fortunately for me, Bayonetta avoids the parts of Devil May Cry that I didn't like, making it a totally competent action game that never takes itself too seriously, and is a ton of fun as a result...

    I think I just climaxed 1

I have just beaten this game and let me tell you that by action game standards, it is by no means a short experience.  The total time clocked me in at 14:30 on the normal difficulty, even longer than it took me to beat Ninja Gaiden the first time through.  Still, that didn't stop me from doing it all in one sitting.  From the start of the game, it had its hair-made hooks in me and they only got tighter as I got farther and farther to the point where I'm going to be on a messed up sleep cycle for...

    Bayonetta Review 0

Bayonetta does not shy away from being over-the-top and out of this world but if you can look past the madness then Bayonetta is a solid action game that is a thrill to play and watch.   If I said that walking on walls, riding motorcycles in the air and using hair as your weapon where all primary features of Bayonetta then I would still not be doing justice to how crazy and over-the-top this game is. Sometimes I had to pause the game for a few seconds just to regain my sanity. Of course I...

The word around town is that Bayonetta is the first big hit of 2010.  Well you can imagine my dismay as put this bad girl into my console and really don't see any of the great things being said about it.    For a start the story is an absolute joke, the cut scenes are of Metal Gear proportions all be it dumbed down counterparts.   Yes its tru that the combat feels good, that's if you can actually see what is happening on the screen with so much visual rubbish flying around.   In all honesty I do...

It would be hard for a video game to be more ridiculous than Bayonetta without becoming intolerable. Plenty of games have gone in a similar direction with over-the-top action sequences and absurd stories and presentation, but I can't recall seeing one take it all as far as this game. It helps a lot that the game knows very well that it is ridiculous, and is sort of winking the entire time. Bayonetta is sort of the typical sexy bombshell protagonist that sometimes gets exploited, but her f...

This game is insane. Totally batshit, hair raisingly insane. The game is filled with exhilarating action and spontaneous set pieces worthy of some of the finest action games out there. But along with that insane gameplay there is a story, and a multitude of characters, both of which are completely inane, pretentious, and obnoxious, leading to a game that is insane to play but maddening to listen to.Bayonetta stars a Bullet Witch of sorts, whose job is to kill angels in a effort to keep herself f...

Pros Bayonetta is a fun character to watch, whether you're playing her in game or watching her in one of the games many over the top cinematics.Motorcycle, Rocket Riding sections and more do a good job of adding variety to the game. Not that the game's fun, hyper kinetic combat system isn't fun enough on it's own.Great soundtrack. ConsCamera sometimes doesn't keep up with the action.Story wasn't especially engaging. I probably would've skipped cutscenes if they weren't generally fun to watch...

+'sFantastic main character Bayonetta is like some 8 foot tall super woman with a slightly too small head and way too long legs. Strangely, if you look at her, she looks good but if you really take time to loooook at her, you can see that she's proportioned like some kinda alien amazon woman. Still, she's awesome. She's very certain of herself and her sex appeal and she flaunts it every opportunity she gets. Most of her combos and special moves end with her in some crazy ass stripper po...

Best action game I've played since DMC3. It's amazing, and one of the great Japanese made games this gen that do more than upgrade the graphics on an essentially PS2-era game. As well as few minor puzzles and driving sequences. When viewin...

I can't explain Bayonetta, and it’s very difficult to sum up my experience with the game. I was originally put off by the character 'Bayonetta', at first she seemed like a cheap gimmick aimed at luring adolescents in, but now she’s one of my favourite video game characters of all time. Why the need for her clothes to rip off in order to summon large dragons to gobble up indescribable gigantic enemies? I don’t know, but it’s awesome. This game is crazy in every way possible; it seems to take the ...

By - Craig H."What the...?" will be the first thought going through your head when you get started with Bayonetta. Bayonetta is insane and does not shy away from it. It is over-the-top from the main character having guns strapped to her feet and blowing kisses to open up doors to the bizarre creatures that you meet throughout the game you will be uttering under your breathe "What the...?" throughout the entire game. This is partly why the game is so intriguing and once you start playing you don'...

I know the game came out in 2010, but I just played it this year due to finding it in a bargain bin for 5 bucks.Bayonetta is a really strange game. I'm not talking about the ludicrous main character or her insane beehive hairdo. The entire game is concentrated insanity. It's almost as if the creator and the artists were on LSD when they were making it.But on the bright side, it plays great.Bayonetta is a story about a Witch, some Sages, Angles, Hair-suits, and gun-shoes. Aiming for the stars 0

It would be foolish to bring up character action games without praising Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya; without him, I’m not sure the genre would’ve flowered as much as it has for the past two cycles of consoles. The Japanese developer once again fills the director’s seat for Bayonetta, a sort of cross between his past two combo based fighters. Stylistic to a fault, Bayonetta fires off cheesy one-liners, absurd break dancing combos, and massive boss encounters with amusin...

    Spectacular or spectacle? 0

Bayonetta is a spectacle of a game.   The title character is a witch whose power originates from her hair, which is long enough to cover her whole body in a rigid, skin-tight suit.   Let me just repeat that: Bayonetta wears a magic suit made of her own hair.   So right from the beginning you should understand that the developers don’t mean for you to take Bayonetta too seriously.   She is not so much an R-rated seductress as a female version of Austin Powers stuck in a Twilight movie.  Bayonett...

The PS3 Version Should Have Never Been Made 0

I want to be very clear that this review only references the PS3 version of the game.  While I haven't played the 360 version, I've read enough glowing reviews to imagine it for what it likely is:  An amazing character action game free of the technical glitches that are pervasive in the PS3 version.  For a game that relies on precise timing to dodge attacks and initiate the game's signature "Witch Time", I was stunned by how many framerate issues plague this version of the game.  I don't care if...

    Curiously lacking in rifles 0

Between Dante's Inferno and God of War this year, it would seem that all the good religions for stylish third-person action games had been taken up. The Greeks have Polytheism and Judaism is basically Christianity at a core level, so unless you want to try and tackle the politically incorrect nightmare that an Islamic videogame would be, then Abrahamic belief is out. Trust me, we don't want to go into the connotations of an Islamic videogame... So really you're left with 2 options: Buddhism or P...

This may be a bit premature of a review, but after 7 hours of gameplay all I can say is wow! Such an amazing combat system, with limitless combos and unique abilities not found in many games. Sure, at first glance it looks like utter cheese, and the over-the-top nature of it all will most definitely turn away many gamers, but just think of it as a Quentin Tarantino sort of experience. It's funny, sexy, but also gory and exciting. You'll find it hard to put down, trust me....

Better Than It Has Any Right To Be 0

After an exceptionally long dose of hype, Bayonetta is finally unleashed on the gaming world and one of the more intense character action games is let loose. A game that is proudly an opus to style and flash, Bayonetta takes the gameplay model of Devil May Cry and makes it significantly more fun and enjoyable and provides a much more enjoyable main character to manipulate.  To describe the story is to give it more meaning than the writers did. It is an absurd story with almost no semblance to ac...

Es tan ridículamente excesivo con toda situación en que participas que te dejara exhausto pero con una sonrisa llena de satisfacción. *Take into account, I wrote this for a 10/10 system.   When word got out that Hideki Kamiya (maker of Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe) was making a new game, the hack and slash community had a bit of a “may cry” in their pants. I was among the group of people looking forward to it, considering how well done Viewtiful Joe was. Then info started to trickle out that it was going to be more along the lines of Devil May Cry, which made the joy in my pants less viewtiful. Don’t get me wrong, Devil Ma...

A Love Letter To Action Game Fans 0

Action videogames seemed like they were somewhat on the wane. There were still a great many of them coming out (and there are many still to come) but the thrills they offered were becoming derivative and, worst yet, repetitive. When Bayonetta was first announced, skepticism abounded. It seemed destined for the obscurity that came with being a Devil May Cry clone these days (the fact that the creator of that series was attached gave little solace). Then the demo came out. And opinion began to shi...
