BioShock has an atmosphere of none other
BioShock is a game where you fire up and don't know anything about what is happening for the first half hour in. There will partially be spoilers coming in this review. You start out in 1961 as some dude, and he'll be in a plane checking out his watch. After that, the plane then blows up and flies into the water, then you'll swim up to the surface. This is when you take control as you swim between plane debris that is smothered in flames. You then will enter a lighthouse and go down a weird looking elevator. You then enter a mysterious under water city, with a fifties look to it, and will look on in amazement and ponder the screen. Once you land in some place, in the mist of the dark, two crazy looking guys, kind of mutated will fight each other with weapons, and in a flash one dies while the other flees, you then enter the world of BioShock.
BioShock right from the start is an amazing game, that will keep you very interested from the get go. The minute you start swimming toward the lighthouse through the fire, you will be curious as to where you are, and search for answers burried deep within the, mysterious underwater world of BioShock. BioShock has an amazing feeling to it, as well as how amazing everything is put together. You feel as you are searching through a mysterious place within the 60s, and enemies or things that are unique and scare you.
The control for BioShock is very well constructed, and makes the game easy to play. While the gameplay isn't a very strong point, as the game feels as you are playing a first person shooter from 2003. The movement or control doesn't feel up to par, likes games as Modern Warfare. But, the buttons are nicely layed out, and help it to play better. As for the graphics, they looked nnice for 2007, but feel dated as of 2010, but still look pretty amazing.
The story is like none other, and keeps you interested to really find out where you are and what you are doing, as the atmosphere is one of the best in video games to date. The characters are very well done, along with stellar voice actors to support their character role to feel as you are apart of this strange world. The story will take you around 8-14 hours, and you'll fell involved the whole time, learning about everything is around, and collecting diary logs to seek information out. There are a whole variety of weapons at your disposal, as some are shotguns to pistols, then weird attachments, such as electricity bolts and very interesting looking weapons. You will also gain the power of ADAM, and it will grant you the ability to freeze things, and electrocute people, as well as useing telechanisis.
BioShock also has some very neat looking effects, as you suck the ADAM from little sisters, or battle Big Daddies, you'll feel as you are doing so yourself, and Big Daddies aren't to be messed with, they intimidate you at first, but are still super strong and can take you down in one blow.
I found BioShock to be very frustrating on hard, and will garaunte you to throw your controller, as well as make you hate the game kinda. Once you tone it down to normal, you should feel much better, and really see how amazing this game really is, and see what all of the fuss is really about. Then easy is way to easy, and won't really make for much fun at all. Overall, BioShock is worth a play through, and maybe even two. This game will not disappoint, I garauntee, the game will keep involved from start to finish, and still have you wondering.
