Most original FPS I've played this GEN!

Bioshock is the spiritual sequel to System Shock 2. This game originally came out on the xbox 360 and PC and it received incredible reviews on those console. How well did it make its transition to the PS3 you ask? Well I'm about you tell you

    Graphics-9/10
The graphics in this game are stunning they are one of the best things I've seen this gen. The water is beautiful, the fire effects are amazing, the bullets are great, electricity looks freaking awesome, and best of all the game runs very smooth and if you have problems with the framerate you can always enable an option that will make the graphics a bit less but improve the gameplay. I for one did not notice the graphics looking worse and I played most of the game with this feature enabled. The 360 version of this game looks identical to the PS3 version of the game and the textures are the same ever since they patched it so no need to worry about having “inferior” graphics.

    Story-9/10
The story in this game is just amazing! It's filled with originality and I've never experienced something like this in a very very long time. It's set in rapture an underwater utopia gone wrong, and you are just a poor unfortunate soul that managed to land there after a plane crash. You basically have to help this guy out to save his family from the splicers who are genetically altered humans. They no longer look human and most of them are just deformed. The creator of this utopia is Andrew Ryan, he decided to reject all forms of rules and create a world without rules. The story is told by diaries which are voice recordings and many of them just work with the surroundings that you pick it up in. Like for example you find a guy connected to a battery and the log explains what happened to him. This game has two endings (3 actually but 2 of them are basically the same) and it depends on how you play the game. If you decided to safe the little sisters (possessed girls hanging around with the big daddies) you get the good ending and if you kill them all you get the bad ending. This game also has several plot twist and one huge plot twist that will blow your mind. I won't spoil it for you but this games storytelling works perfectly for the setting and the way the game is.

    Sound Effects-7/10
The game is mostly quiet and every so often you will hear screams from the splicers or the big daddies foot steps and the occasional 1950's music playing off of a record player. The music is incredibly well done and the sound of the splicers and big daddies and just everything else is done perfectly. My biggest gripe in this aspect is the Audio Logs (diaries) most of the time you can't really hear them well because they play while your fighting and what not. Sometimes even then it's hard to hear I had to use subtitles to fully understand them. Otherwise I just got the gist of it.

    Gameplay-8/10
I'll be honest, I'm sick and tired of all the FPS's this generation s this game had pretty refreshing gameplay when it came down to it. On your right hand you had your weapons and on your left hand you had your plasmids. These basically allow you to shoot lighting out of your hand and all those other special abilities that you encounter through the game. You'll spend most of your time going from point A to point B and doing quest and are all relevant to the story. While you are walking around you will eventually come across the big daddies with the little sisters. Keep in mind they will not attack you if you don't attack them. Big daddies are not enemies unless you make them your enemy. You have two options when you encounter Little sisters, you kill the big daddy and then you either Harvest her (gives you all the adam) or rescue her (gives you half the adam) This action affects the ending of the game and is very important not only to the gameplay but to the story as well. Adam is what you use to upgrade your plasmids and health and stuff this is what people mean by RPG elements but to be honest so long as you upgrade health and eve (the plasmid ammo) and your lighting one then you are just fine.

The shooting mechanics of the game are a bit lacking and you are often better off with the wrench for most of the enemies. I found myself without ammo several times during a gunfight so I just used the lighting and a wrench. This was my decision to do since I decided to play this as a Survival Horror game that just happens to be in First Person View. Many people have no complaints about the shooting mechanics so I'm assuming this is just me.

    Replay Value-3/10
The PS3 version comes with DLC that was on the 360 version and with some exclusive stuff also that adds to the replay value but the replay value of the game sucks. You can only play it twice (get different endings) and that's it. So the Replay value just plain sucks.

    Buy or Rent
This game is a buy IMO. But honestly speaking just borrow it from a friend or rent it if you want to just see what all the hype is about. But a $30 this game is a steal.

I give this game a 8/10, the story is amazing and the graphics kick ass. The game is fun as hell but has a few drawbacks like the lack of Replay Value and the stupid Audio Logs being hard to hear. Overall the game is a great game and will go down in history as an amazing title.

      ...a soggy bleh 0

Played Through in Spring 09. So…you play as this Airline Passenger…who is the sole survivor of a plane crash in the ocean. Good for him, there’s a light house only a light swim away. Bad for him, that light house is actually the gateway to a fallen psychopathic, telekinetic, dentally deficient society bubbling under the sea. Hope you stowed away some airline peanuts in your pocket…you might get peckish. Man…BioShock. …such an engrossing experience. I say the word experience, because some times,...

Not only in terms of it's fantastic and deep gameplay, but also in terms of it's story and setting. No other game has portrayed political and social themes like the way BioShock does, hell most games don't even touch them. But BioShock is different, it ...
