Favorite video game story
so far. Like I said with the Braid review, I don't give out perfect scores. I came really close with this one though. Let me make this clear, I was a die hard fan of Bioshock before most people knew it even existed. Yes this is the truth, and yes it is possible. I found out about this game by reading a bootleg copy of the GameInformer magazine that first announced it before anyone else. I read this article 10 days before it was released to the public and have loved the concept ever since. I don't usually brag, but you can't help saying one big ( yet very silent ) I TOLD YOU SO! to the whole world, in your head, when it got perfect scores across the board.
I feel there could have been many things different about it that would make it better, but let me be clear, most of what I am about to say hasn't been considered as an improvement 2K should have made. These are just personal (yet crazy) opinions of mine that I think would have worked.
1. No other "living inhabitants" in Rapture. Let me clarify this, I think the games tone would have been alot darker if there wasn't a voice talking to you through an apparently VERY portable shorewave radio throughout the entire game. Not to mention the one and only appearance of (spoiler avoided) "the woman who takes care of the little sisters". Splicers are fine cause they are like mutants, but that's were the line should have been drawn.
2. No Bossfights. I'm sorry but boss fights are sooo mario bros. If you want to make a game truly unique and realistic, then break away from the mold entirely and get rid of obviously set up encounters with specific enemies who are stronger then everyone else. I'm looking at you Steinman!
3. More water. This one might be strange since you are completely surrounded by water the entire time you are playing, but most of the time it just causes a blurry view from the "windows", "domes", whatever. I want to see water gushing through walls and impeding you rpath at every turn. How about some flooded rooms, and some parts where you actually have to swim under water.
4. No more collecting things. It's good for people who like achievements and people who care enough about the story to go find all those things, but for the average person who can't dedicate alot of time to the game but what to know what's going on, shouldn't have to go looking in every possible corner for well placed hints of who your mother is and what it sounded like when the new year's eve party didn't turn out so well. It just seems to planned.
There you have it. 4 ways Bioshock could have been better. I could think of a 5th reason, but I would rather drive the OCD readers crazy for the rest of their lives. I kid, I kid. Truth be told that's all I can think of. Now you tell me, If those changes had been made, do YOU think Bioshock would have been just a little better? Or a completely different game?
