The thinkingmen's Doom (but without demons, vast arsenal or 3D)
BlackThorne for the GBA is none of what an average boy would be lead to believe based on the box art... but boys still see boobs as something fairly mundane and meaningless.
The way to control the main character, Kyle Blackthorne, is very stiff and precise. Sort of what Castlevania for the NES or Super Castlevania 4 for the SNES would be if Simon wasnt able to jump 2 times his body height. So, yes, this game is more grounded on real physics than most other games even though the theme is of fantasy: the prince to a realm from an exotic elsewhere in the universe who is sent to Earth in order to survive long enough to become strongh and avenge his father's death while freeing his people from their evil usurpator tyrant.
One at first might be frustrated for the apparent low pace of the game since your character moves at a believeable speed for a human and you will have certain trouble to kill even the simplest of enemies but fear not for the action is actually in good measure and you can decide either to play it as fast as the controls allow (which is surprisingly fast once you get the hang of it) or the slow and rewarding way: besting each enemy with precision and fast reflexes AND your cool shotgun.
The graphics look great, even to 2008 they hold some charm, the animations are fluid (although the stiff controls make it somehow difficult to apreciate at first glance) and the look of the game is a great draw-in to the game.
The sound is just fit enough, the grunts and explosions give some character to the game but are nothing to write home about, the music is repetitive and sometimes bordering on monotonous but fit the look and pace of the game fine.
There is little to no variety of the action but the level design keeps things entertaining.
For a handheld game, you might get to love this game on those little spots of the day where there is nothing else to do, affar from your main console.
