or is it just me?
I play as Brick, and i have been playing the game since last Saturday and i just hit level 30 today. So out of the many hours i have spent in the game i find that the weapons that drop or are found are pretty odd.
Now what i mean by odd is that as Brick which should be good class for big weapons like the grenade luncher or shotguns, i rarely seem to find any of those.
What i seem to find 80% of the time are sniper rifles and combat rifles or pistols for that matter. Combat rifles are fine with me i like using them, but i hate finding sniper rifles all the time. Had i been a hunter i would not mind, but thats not what i'm playing, and having to open those gun storage boxes to find a two sniper rifles or 4 pistols almost every time is a bit annoying and disappointing.
I really want some more shotguns and rocket lunchers ( even though the lunchers i have found seem useless in this game )
So what classes have you been playing? and have your weapons drops/finding matched your class?
And another question, how many yellow/orange items have you found on your first play through. I haven't beaten the game yet, but i have not found a single one yet.

Weapon drops are kind of odd...
Yeah that annoys me aswell, I play as Roland and I hate it when it gives me snipers because I never use them.
I only remember picking up one repeater very early on in the game.

Thing about rocket launchers is that most of the times, you can use it for a pretty long time because of its high damage. I do agree with you on the fact rocket launchers are pretty hard to find(especially the good ones). Shotguns are pretty easy to find though. Level 30 is when it gets pretty hard to find good weapons on the first walkthrough. What I noticed(I'm currently level 43 Brick) is that second walkthrough gives you so many more weapons. Rocket launchers were everywhere(like literally). So my advise is that just finish the first walkthrough as fast as possible via co-op and just go on to the second walkthrough. You will find more adequate weapons for your level.
P.S. LOTS of yellow and orange weapons on the second walkthrough. You will enjoy it.
Sounds good, i have been on a dry patch since level 28. The weapons i'm using now i have had for a long time, haven't really found anything that matches the damage output.
But i guess it will get a lot better on the second play through as you say.
Which platform are you playing on? I'm playing on the PS3 as a Soldier and it's pretty much the same for me. In terms of quantity, I'm finding sniper rifles, repeaters, assault rifes, submachine guns, revolvers, shotguns and rocket launchers in that respective order. It's a little irritating since it's a little rare for me to find a good shotgun or assault rifle. What's worse, most of the stuff I find isn't really that good. I've found a reasonable number of orange items but I tend to have found better equipment by then rather annoyingly.
Some guy on Gamefaqs apparently found out how the drop system works and it has something to do with the time of day.
Most enemies drop the weapons they are currently using. When you see one shooting a different sounding gun, you will most likely get it once you kill him. If all the enemies were using rocket launcher you might die a bit more often... Check the stores once in a while, you can get some solid weapons there.
Another good place to get loot is New Haven. There are 2 red and 3 silver chests right in town. If you open them, quit and repeat, you can get some good yellow/orange weapons eventually.

"I know there is a Red Armory Chest on top of the building with the satellite, but where are the other ones?
In my first playthrough I found about 15 orange guns, most of which were pistols. Since I didn't want to be lugging around 10 different types of the same gun with varying stats, I sold most of them.
Found one dark orange and a Pearl weapon too.
I'm playing as Roland and I have found the same thing with finding way more snipers and pistols. When I find a good combat rifle I end up using it for a long time until I find something to replace it with. I still am loving this game. I rented it a week ago and have just kept it past the due date so I can finish the story. I may try some co-op before I take it back but single player has been really fun for me.

There's even a couple of quests where the end reward is a chest of loot. In one of them I got a wicked looking sniper rifle and a beyond-my-level Hunter class mod. Too bad I was a Soldier! Those went straight to the vending machines :)
The enemies use the weapons that they drop so it makes sense if those are evenly distributed. But at least the chest-reward quests should give a random reward with a distribution based on the host's current proficiencies or something like that. That way if you like using combat rifles, then the game would give you more.
Have you been to Old Haven? I found some of my best weapons there including a medium orange sniper rifle and a pair of light orange SMGs. When I built up my character, I tended to try and get a feel for all weapons. Admittedly I am weakest with alien tech and launchers, because I just don't run into too many situations where they are the preferred weapon for the battle. Now, my highest skills are in pistols, snipers and SMGs, and that is where my best weapons are, too. Maybe I just got lucky or the way my character developed gave me the greatest flexibility. All I know is that I haven't received too many weapons that I couldn't put to good use. If there is a problem it is that I haven't run into many worthy replacements to my core set of weapons. I've been carrying the same group of for about 4 ot 5 levels now because the possible replacements are just mediocre. I'd much rather have a level 25 with x3 Elemental than a 31 with x1 (if any). The bright side I guess is that I currently have 2 million dollars in my account...not that there is anything good to buy. By the way, I am a level 35 Siren.

As of late, I've got just ridiculously crappy loot. I currently use a 2-shot revolver that does around 300 damage and got 1 explosive trait, and an SMG which does around 60 damage but got lots of electrical damage. All other weapons have just been utter crap, with damage ratings around 100-140. I expected more weapons with some punch around now since I've done about half of the Old Haven quests, and just got to level 24 with my Siren.
I'm a Level 28 Siren at the moment, and I am having a little bit of a weapon issue. You see, I had a pack of about five or six really awesome shotguns, a few good submachine guns and a good revolver. Unfortunately, all of these weapons did wonders for me about three or four levels ago. I've had to discard over half of my weapons cache because those weapons were not useful anymore. Unfortunately, I haven't found necessary weapons to replace all of the ones I used as vendor trash previously. The loot and weapon chests I keep finding, are for the most part, vendor trash in which I can get some cash for, or just do so little damage it's not even worth picking it up." Most of the weapons I have now barely keep me alive (such as the slow elemental repeater I have), and the only weapon I have been consistently able to rely on is a submachine gun that does 50 damage, and has 90.5 accuracy + 40% accuracy bump. I've at least been desperately seeking a submachine gun to replace this one, and I'm pretty sure I have finally found it.
EDIT: I haven't looked at my loadout since 2:30AM, so I'll post something sometime today about my new loadout.
See, while sometimes loot can be a little inconsistent, what I've found is that 99% of the time you get all that vender trash, something awesome shows up in the vending machine that you can afford after selling those hoards of crap guns. Also: I've found almost every time I go into Old Haven I end up finding something better be it from drops, crates or selling everything from crap drops and crates to buy an awesome weapon from the vending machine there.
I feel the same way, wherever I go there are sniper rifles everywhere. I'm a Siren and I think I have about 1 point in Sniper aptitude, I don't want sniper rifles!!!
" @PenguinDust said:I can confirm this. That being that Old Haven is populated with some pretty tough opponents when you get there and they drop some pretty good equipment which you can use or sell for a decent amount. It's also dotted with a good few loot chests so you'll definitly find at least one good gun regardless of what type it is. It's a fun place for grinding if you need it. (I liked the urban setting anyway as I found it to be a good change from the open space that I'm used to seeing)." Have you been to Old Haven? I've got the same SMG you have (or similiar). You should hold onto to that since you probably won't find a better SMG in a long time. (At least I didn't even after I finished the game at level 37.)
