So I had Brink on preorder but I am seriously thinking about canceling it because of the negative review and reputation. Has anyone else done this or something similar such as deciding not to get the game? I was just curious because there was a good amount of people wanting it but now it seems to be a lot less.
Thanks.
Brink
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released May 10, 2011
A multiplayer-focused, class-based first-person shooter running on id Tech 4, in which oppressive soldiers and anarchistic terrorists battle for the few remaining resources on a failed paradise known as the Ark.
Anyone cancelled their preorder or made up their mind?
I have it coming from Gamefly, and assumed I'd be keep it. I'm still gonna try it, but more than likely, I'll be sending it back.
Played the PC version for about 3 hours tonight, and I'm pretty sure I'm never going to touch it again assuming Splash Damage makes no drastic changes via patching. Save yourself the $50. Rent it once, forget about it.
I am going to continue not caring about it. I didn't even know it was multiplayer based until I watched the quick look an hour ago :-/
Looked somewhat interesting, but not enough to pre-order. Seems like I made the right move. Looks and sounds kinda meh from what I have seen.
There's a few videos of people playing on Youtube and it doesn't look particularly great, just another incredibly standard multiplayer FPS. I did like how they were trying to focus on teamwork and co-operation, but they only seem to be doing that by limiting features. Even before the reviews, people didn't seem to be too excited about it and there's a lot of negativity even on the official forums.
For all the hype about Brink being "the parkour shooter" (hell, check out the latest promo video here), they really seem to have done absolutely nothing interesting with the SMART system.
Oh damn, everyone is so negative. I was going to still get it but if the online lacks community then what's the point?

"I don't really care what others think unless a game is a major unknown to me. Brink looks interesting enough for me to take a chance on it either way. I've played too many good games that were not considered such by most people....form your own opinions is my advice.
As I said not a terrible game, but Brink tech issues are pretty pathetic even for a new release. Overall the $60 even $50 tag seems way higher for 8 or so maps in a multi player based game." @rosebud04 said:

" @VodunTrue, but you can't know that. I would say the potential for a following is greater on PC though, console gamers have a shorter attention span. Also, people are more liable to complain loudly than praise a game loudly...wait a week then and gauge its community.@NekuSakuraba said:Well I was really looking forward to it (Looked at a BUNCH of videos on it) and still really want it but if other people don't like it and the community dies within months (Similar to Shadowrun) is there a point getting it? As much as I wanted this to be good, the fact that it's not doing so great at least makes me feel better for my decision to preorder L.A. Noire instead of this.

Why are my gaming tastes so different? I absolutely love this game! I only wish I had better specs.
Why are my gaming tastes so different? I absolutely love this game! I only wish I had better specs.Fuck it, I'm getting it.I'm a lvl 11 light medic and have been playing it since it released on Steam. I aced all the challenges by myself and am 2 missions away from finishing the campaign as the rebels. The shooting, the movement, and the parkour all feel ace. I've heard about people bitching about the AI, and honestly, I don't see what the problem is. I utilize the command wheel, pick an objective that says escort someone, and watch them complete the mission as I back them up.When I'm dying, AI comes and revives me. When I'm out of ammo, AI comes and resupplies me. Whats the problem?I want to be able to play this game online before the userbase dissipates. It makes me sad that it might be DoA cause this is the first multiplayer shooter I have enjoyed since CSS. (hated Cod)
YOU FOOL! YOU'RE GOING TO REGRET THIS!" @ESREVER

I've played it and I know its a fucking awesome game. You are a fool if you've cancelled. The small bad points people have pointed out are irrelevant once the game releases retail.
The bots aren't stupid when you put them on Hard difficulty. I've tried this for a few hours now and its really pretty good. Once the game releases online and people get used to it then it will come into a world of its own.
I don't agree with reviewing a Multiplayer focused game before release, esspecially one where not too many people are playing online and it dumps bots in to fill it.

The art style looks pretty interesting to me, as well as the character/weapon customisation.
Even in some of the most negative reviews, I see people saying how much of a blast it is to play. So I don't see why I should cancel my pre-order just because it doesn't have some insane Metacritic score in the 90s.

Curious what the UI is like on a larger resolution.
I decided a while back I wasn't going to get it. Just didn't seem too interesting to me (though I admit I'm not much really keen on first person shooters)

I Pre-Ordered it on impulse because I thought it looked cool, and it still continues to look cool. I regret nothing :)
If you get this game, buy it via Direct2Drive and use the promo code "sizzle". I preordered this game, but only because I got it for $40 using that promo. I very much doubt I would have picked it up on a console for $60.
" I've played Brink quite a lot at this point and the main thing is this. Do you have a group of friends to play it with? This game will live or die by how well you and your team work together. "What he said. It's basically a game you need to play with actual people compared to crap bot matches. This will probably be ending up having the same fate as Shadowrun but at least this got higher reviews.
I never really had much faith in the game but I rented it this morning just to see the customization stuff.
