    Brutality

    Concept »

Originally introduced in the console versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, a Brutality was a finishing move consisting of a very long combo that resulted in the opponent's body exploding. The concept was reintroduced and altered in Mortal Kombat X.

    Overview

    Original

In the home versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and subsequently Mortal Kombat Trilogy, a Brutality required players to execute a 10-hit combo, which would result in the opponent's body exploding. The amount of body parts would exceed the amount inside a human body. Players will be able to see three heads, for example, or four spines.

    DC Universe

In Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and Injustice, Brutalities are finishing moves used by heroic characters. These would be attacks that would not kill the opponent, but normally make it impossible for them to continue fighting.

    Sudden Finisher

Brutalities returned to MK in Mortal Kombat X as alternate ways to suddenly end a match that were unique to each character. For example, an uppercut from Johnny Cage that would normally end the round (opponent already at low health), would instead immediately decapitate the opponent, which is a callback to his original Fatality in Mortal Kombat. Some of these Brutalities have prerequisites that must be met during the match in order to initiate them.

This type of Brutality is also included in Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1.
