" Yeah, same thing with Amnesia. That game would have been tons better with competitive multiplayer. "pretty much this.

Stylish, ludicrous kills net big points in this ridiculously over-the-top first-person shooter.
The problem with this game
@Enigma777 said:Agreed. Bioshock 2 was freakin' awesome." I'll take an FPS with no MP that focused solely on the SP than one with a tacked on MP that brings the whole experience down. Just look at Bioshock! "Bioshock 2 was great. Same cool world(which is what the fist game was all about) and the gameplay was improved. Maybe the story wasn't as good, one could argue that the first didn't have that great of a story, but that's about the only thing you could argue against it. "
" I clicked on this thread, thinking that there was actually a problem with the game. "As did I.
Bulletstorm doesn't have competitive multiplayer because it would probably be completely broken. Once you kick, leash, etc someone in single player, you have an eternity to do whatever you want to them. Even if they shortened that time in multiplayer, there is no conceivable way that would be fun. It would either be people leashing each other non-stop or it would just be another generic shooter because people don't want to get close to anyone else.
They didn't add competitive multiplayer because they're smart.
The fact that you feel the need to put all first person shooters on the same exact judgement plane only exists to disservice your argument as being dumb and full of holes. Please try again." Not competitive multiplayer.. seriusly!? In theory you can make plenty of good intelligent arguments on why this shouldn´t matter..in practice the market has spoken... a 2011 FPS with no competitive multiplayer seems more like a joke to me. "
Don't, actually. That was a joke.
I always pictured this game to have leaderboards comparing everyones score for a particular stage. I also don't know how you get bullet time, which happens a plenty in th single player, into the multiplayer. If you remove that and the combos that come with it you end up with essentially another unreal first person shooter frag match. But with a leaderboard system, you get something a little different to seperate it from other popular first person shooters on the market.
That's how I was thinking about it too." It does have competitive multiplayer its just not at the same time, you know, like pacman
I find the idea kinda interesting.
Same here." I clicked on this thread, thinking that there was actually a problem with the game. "
Also, this is a poor comparison. You're making it under the assumption that everyone likes playing multiplayer. And yes Competitive and Co-Op its almost a basic feature nowadays you can´t let the standard go down, would you buy a laptop without wireless nowadays?
They would need to get rid of the leash and/or the temporal gravity thing in order for it even to be moderately fair/skill-based. Unless you want all but one person to be floating through space for most of the game, unable to do anything. Also, most of the "corralling" or inst-kill weapons or weapon abilities (flail gun, screamer alt-fire, PMC alt-fire) would need to be toned down.
Basically, in order to make competitive work, you'd need to get rid of everything that makes the game unique. Go play Gears or BLOPS instead.
This game doesn't need competitive multiplayer. It's a waste of resources. If i want to play multiplayer i already have tons of games for that. They don't need to waste money throwing in some generic-after-thought-death-match mode. besides, this game wouldnt even make sense with multiplayer. it would just be a huge clusterfuck.
competetive multiplayer would be terrible in Bulletstorm IMO
imagine getting leashed and juggled for 6-8 seconds at a time by a competitor, would be super irritating..
But I don't buy games for competetive mp anyway.
Borderlands didn't have it, and I love me some Borderlands
I've already played the demo of Bulletstorm like 20 times and can't wait for Tuesday so I can play the whole thing..
Bulletstorm looks like it would be horrible in competitive multiplayer. The whole game is based on flinging enemies about. I'm sure it would be incredibly fun to have that happen to me because my favorite part of playing a game is not being able to do anything as enemies destroy me. It's a score attack game. The multiplayer is in the the leaderboards. It's like being mad Ikaruga doesn't have deathmatch.
Now if you want to complain that the campaign does not have co-op, then I'l listen.
" @HandsomeDead said:The Combo System is the reason it would've never worked as a multiplayer game....." You're right. All games should be the same. "yes people love to kill each other online that´s why they buy fps nowadays. still i think they missed an oportunity to make a fresh competitive experience with the so call "kill with skill super powers combo system" "
i think the lack of MP is a good thing.. otherwise, the online community would die out like the rest of the half-assed MP games.. i would personally like it if less games had MP, and let the ones that do, do it right..
" well, you guys have been brain wash by dumb activision, EA FPS. then you have prejudice by yourself. so if other games are different from what you think, they are so wrong? what a typical numb nut. before playing it, you never know. "God i fucking LOVE your grammar, its so awesomely bad.
" Nothing is going to beat Black Ops, so why try, just concentrate on a better Single player experince "Wow..I don't even know how to respond to that statement...I can only hope that your being sarcastic.
" Because we all know that most competitive multi-player experiences are long-lasting, engrossing, and well-worth the time and effort developers put into them. Clearly, you, sir, are a sage, and your wisdom will resonate through the ages. "Lol'd.
" @Brodehouse said:Irrelevant, Levine has already proven you don't need competitive multiplayer in a shooter to work.I saw that interview, and I respecfully beg to differ with Ken Levine I actually think he´s an overrated game designer in the line with David Jaffe. "" @DonPixel: Its these kind of arguments that Ken Levine talked about in the interview he did with Jeff. "
Good day, have fun with your Call of Duty. It's obviously the better game than Bioshock and Bulletstorm already since it has a deathmatch right?
" Right, because people played Bioshock for the multiplayer. Of course. Bulletstorm isn't about K/D ratios, it's about amassing scores based on creative killing. Unless the competitive multiplayer were to have players gunning down AI characters in ridiculous ways, there wouldn't be any point to such an option. It's not a game built for deathmatches. "This.
Im sorry, but if you think a game like this or Vanquish would be amazing multiplayer, you're a damn fool. The game is designed so enemies are complete fodder in order for you to be able to kill them creatively. Its not about hiding behind a box or efficiency of any kind. Fact is the whip would never be the most effient way to kill, and the more fun the method of killing, the longer you're vulnerable to someone else. It would be Assassin's Creed Brotherhood all over again. Basically anyone who decides to not just gun their enemy down is volunteering to be vulnerable for no reason. And yeah, if multiplayer neccesarily discourages you from using any of the game's unique mechanics (slow motion, the whip, creative kills that take longer to finish than a normal kill), it'd be a stupid pointless multiplayer.
Thank god you aren't a game designer or some sort of executive at a publisher. Not every game needs competitive multiplayer.
The competitive multiplayer in Bulletstorm would have been terrible. You can stun guys for 3 sceonds at a time at range (LB: leash), at point-blank range (B: kick), or by sliding into a guy rapidly (double-tap A). It would be endlessly frustrating to be on the receiving end of any of those three button presses in a competitive multiplayer match. This is even discounting the fact that there's a myriad of ways to kill guys in LITERALLY one shot. You absolutely do not want a versus-mode multiplayer in Bulletstorm.
If you still want to beat your friends down, there are two other options: The leaderboards on Echoes mode, or in the co-op multiplayer, each player gets an individual score, so you can say "ha ha I got the most points".
This game has competitive multiplayer the same way as The Club or PDZ's through the campaign. Though I don't think it would be terrible for Bulletstorm to have co-op, especially if enemies are cannon fodder to be used as being for nothing other then skillshots. Also I don't think you can call it co-op if you're playing with a friend to see who get's the most points. You're working against each other which is pretty competitive and not so much cooperative.
I'm not interested so much in this game. Mostly I just don't like the entire, "Oh look you scored x points for doing this" while playing it. I like it at the end of a level or stage, just not so much during as it distracts me from shooting mans. Also, earlier in this thread someone mentioned multiplayer Amnesia. I would throw money at people and do questionable things for that.
" @DonPixel said:dude.. i haven´t finish a COD campaing or do any serius multiplayer in it.. relax" @Brodehouse said:Irrelevant, Levine has already proven you don't need competitive multiplayer in a shooter to work. Im a multiplayer guy but COD it´s not nearly as good as other multiplayer experiences imo, it is the most popular and thats it.
The whole Ken Levine and bioshock rockstar game designer I just don´t buy it.. Bioshock was a big ZzzzZZzzz for me as Sci Fi aficionado ther´s far better storytelling and narrative in your average Sci Fi novel.. Bioshock just get away with it becaus it´s a video game if it were a movie it wouldnt even make it into a B-Movie.
