I've been wanting to buy this game since launch but soon after saw the ad on the Xbox marketplace for the season pass. I would obviously want to indulge in as much multiplayer as possible so naturally I'll want access to future maps but damn it that's a lot of dough to throw at a single game! I didn't buy the previous 2 games but this will probably be the last CoD of this generation. I have gamefly so I'm okay to play other recent games while this sits on my queue. I imagine most people bought it as their be all end all game to play this year. So I just wanted to ask the opinion of people who bought it along with a season pass: is this game worth the hefty sum of $110?
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 13, 2012
The Black Ops storyline continues, switching the past Cold War from the game's predecessor to future 2025, as a new Cold War between U.S.A. and China flares up due to the actions of one vengeful drug-runner.
Is this game worth $110?
You don't need the season pass to play multiplayer. If its anything like the other call of duty games there will still be a ton of people playing without DLC.
You must be in Australia? $110 fuck that. I should probably learn to read. Either way, 110 dollars for a game is fucking ridiculous.
@ChadMasterFlash: It's $110 because he's including the season pass which is $50. $60 game+$50 season pass=$110 :(
Try the game to see if you like it. Buying a season pass for a game you don't really like wouldn't make a lot of sense.
WHAT! Wow, that's an expensive season pass. No way it's worth that much. By the time they release their second piece of DLC you will have probably moved on. At least, that's what happens to me.
Would you buy new maps individually even if they sucked, just for some variety? While Black Ops had some decent DLC, map packs can be pretty hit and miss, so you might benefit from skipping a crappy release. I would buy a season pass only for a series that you really enjoy. For example, I think Mortal Kombat is awesome and would have downloaded any new fighters regardless of quality, so a season pass was an obvious choice.
If you're going to continue playing multiplayer all year, and you are going to buy the new maps anyways, than yes buy the season pass.
Hard to say if the DLC will be worth it. The actual game it's self is worth it, IMO, but too early to say on the DLC. Like, if some of the DLC packs have zombies maps or something dumb than it's just a waste of money, but if it's all multiplayer maps (and they are good) than perhaps.
I might end up getting a DLC pack or two if I'm still playing, but not sure if I see myself playing it all year.

Jesus fucking christ is that how much they're charging for maps?
Thats crazy, dont pay that much.
$15 per map pack, that's pretty standard. Same for Halo and Battlefield, so I don't see why you'd expect it to be cheaper. Well worth it. You usually got 3-4 multiplayer maps and then a handful of spec ops / zombie maps (and some new achievements)
Thanks for the input everybody. I feel justified in refraining from making such a huge investment for a single game. I haven't paid more than $60 for any other game this year so might as well not start now. I'm happy to just play it if it arrives from my gamefly queue and not take the dive on the season pass. Looking forward to playing the single player portion and maybe dabbling in the multiplayer.
No game is worth more than how much I spend on food in a week unless that game will generate the amount I spend on food in a week.
Never ever pay up front for a season pass. You don´t know what they are going to release. Maybe after the first map pack is out and you have some perspective on the quality of their maps (and I usually feel like treyarch maps suck for the most part)
Remember the Saints Row Season Pass? Or the Darksiders one? Yeah, that was THQ, but those people got SCREWED for paying up front.

Not really a console shooter guy, guess I forgot that's the standard.
Last time I got additional maps for an FPS I was actively playing was for TF2, needless to say I didn't spend a dime on them.
Or on any of the new game modes or weapons.
But hey, to each his own.
Suppose it depends how much you want it. I'm not a die hard fan of call of duty; but even if I was, I'd find it hard to part with that much money.
You should buy the game. If you're way into multiplayer and zombies, drop the fifty dollars on the season pass.

Learn to understand economies, currency and minimum wage before you see 100AUS and say fuck that, Australia have some of the highest wages in the world.
I play CoD about five times as much as any single other games, so I guess $110 is cheap by that measure. Like an aboriginal gamer use all of the video game...just as the Sioux would use all of the buffalo.

Plus if you're living in Australia and paying $100 or more for a game, I think it really just means you need to stop shopping at EB.
