Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
Black Ops sells 7 million in 1 day. YES, SEVEN MILLION.
Oh. My. God. 7 million? 7?! Just...insane! Bigger than Modern Warfare 2 numbers.
I guess if you include every possible platform for a highly anticipated game, then yeah, it's gonna sell a lot.
" @Metal_Mills: They even counted Wii and DS versions? I guess if you include every possible platform for a highly anticipated game, then yeah, it's gonna sell a lot. "The Wii and DS counted for about 1% of sales. 95% went to 360 and PS3. I think they might be a bit off with those percentages though. Less than 5% on PC? CoD games are packed, it's like the first or second highest played game on steam.
"The same estimates suggest the majority of Black Ops sales went to Xbox 360 59%, followed by 36% for PS3 and the rest going to PC, Wii and DS versions."
" lol VGChartz numbers. "
Yeah I know it probably won't be exact but they normally get the numbers in the ball park.

" Hmm.... At $60 a pop that's about... Million bucks or so? "Lmao
Million Bucks indeed.
Well, just like most pop music, pop culture gets it wrong again. Pop gaming ain't all that. Gonna stick with Battlefield in the future.
Congrats to Treyarch though for stepping out of Infinity Ward's shadow and a very solid and on delivering a solid and fun and high quality product (except for the multiplayer experience being P2P on consoles, which is a nightmare).
It's odd how Treyarch make a game with insane sales numbers but because they're not Infinity Ward they're still not taken that seriously by a lot of the gaming press and us gamers.

"That was because WaW and CoD3 were not particularly great games. If you look at the reception for this game you'll see that a lot of people's opinions have changed.
" I sure am glad everyone likes buying what is basically a slight tweak of a game they bought less than a year ago so often. Call of Duty would be in real trouble otherwise and someone might do something stupid like try to be innovative in a first person shooter. "

Well done Treyarch. I wonder how long it will be until they actually see any other the profits though...
That was because WaW and CoD3 were not particularly great games. If you look at the reception for this game you'll see that a lot of people's opinions have changed. "I disagree. I loved Call of Duty 3, and World at War was a pleasant change from the modern war setting. Sometimes I welcome a similar game with a different setting. It makes a nice change to the experience I already have had enjoyment from. Call of Duty 3 included a lot of minor features that made Call of Duty 4 into the game it was, such as tossing back grenades and climbing over cover. It played a role in making the future of the franchise.
7,000,000 copies in 24 hours is downright crazy. I am amazed: Black Ops might overtake Modern Warfare 2, if it hasn't already.
They said literally the exact same thing about MW2 sales initially - 7 million day one:
"Early data is in and the confirmation that Modern Warfare 2 will become the fastest-selling game of all time isn't a big surprise in itself, but the margin with which it looks to take the record is astounding.
VGChartz preliminary day one figures puts the sales to date (including the midnight launches) at over 7 million copies worldwide across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Around 55% of sales are on Xbox 360, 33% on PS3 and the remaining 12% on PC. In terms of regional breakdowns, over 4.2 million units were sold in the Americas (3.7 million USA), 1.2 million in the UK and 350,000 each in France and Germany."

It's the casual audience of people that only buy the new Call of Duty and Madden game every year that don't know any better." @Potter9156:@Raymayne: He's right you know. "Funny how no one complains about the ton of sports games that do the same thing. "
" @FluxWaveZ said:I've never, ever seen someone on a gaming forum, except for the specific sports franchise enthusiasts (Madden, FIFA...), complain that the game only had minor modifications and additions therefore it sucks and people waste their money buying yet another iteration. I bought MW2 when the game came out last year, and I did the same with BO this year. I enjoy these games very much therefore I buy them. That's it. Maybe you don't, but don't decide for others whether they're wasting their money or not." @ajamafalous said:Plenty of people who are as in-tune with the industry as us do. While these are impressive figures, you have to take into account this is counting quite a few different platforms AND they released the game the game in Europe at the same time, instead of releasing it on Friday, which is the typical release date over here.
" @ajamafalous said:At no point was there a mention of wasted money. Dude simply said that Black Ops is essentially Modern Warfare 2 with some tweaks, and he's right." @FluxWaveZ said:I've never, ever seen someone on a gaming forum, except for the specific sports franchise enthusiasts (Madden, FIFA...), complain that the game only had minor modifications and additions therefore it sucks and people waste their money buying yet another iteration. " @Blair said:I'm a fan of this." They must have done a lot of Moon Advertising to get numbers that high. "Bravo, sir. "
Also, this juvenile anti-populist backlash needs to stop. Christ.
I guess this means that gaming has gained a pop genre like movies and music does. Pop music is just the same and the same ....same. Same structures and almost identical song lengths. Movies have pop-movies like Avatar. It's really a cliche movie and the story have been seen so many times before. and i guess you can see where im going....
