To render explosive devices safe.
Games that give the player only a limited amount of time to choose whether to continue or not. This concept is most often seen in arcade titles and their home ports.
An objective where players have to ward off enemies for a set duration.
A draw occurs when two or more players end a versus match where no player is determined to be the winner. This can be caused by a double knock out, or when players have an equal point value at the end of a set period of time.
A situation where the player must quickly escape from a building currently in the process of blowing up. Could either be a cinematic or actually gameplay.
A line that signals the start or the end of the race. Even though it is used for racing, it could mean any type of racing game.
A form of racing designed to test the car and driver's skill and endurance. It evolved into closed circuit racing like modern Formula 1 and MotoGP. Even the Mario Kart series has it.
Codenamed "Canada's Game", Hockey is a game played by two opposing teams on a sheet of ice with the objective of scoring the most goals with a rubber puck. Players use wood or composite hockey sticks to put the puck in the net.
Shorter than mini-games, micro games are generally no longer then 20 seconds in length. Several are often played one after another as a party game.
These are often a departure from the conventional gameplay of a game. There have also been compilations; games including only minigames. The Mario Party series has a lot of minigames, too!
Music speeds up as the time runs out or a particular part of the game gets harder. Found in Street Fighter, Mario games, Sonic games, etc.
Games that feature quiz questions, often in the form of multiple choice responses.
The wheels are already in motion when you begin the race, there's no turning back.
Often a timed sequence where players must escape a building, spaceship, planet, etc... before it explodes.
Common concept in 3D fighting games that allows you to side step around your opponent avoiding his attacks.
A grid that is organized for the start of the race in rows of 2, 3 or more. Very useful for standing starts in various racing titles.
Sudden Death occurs when two or more players/teams have the same score at the end of the game. It can also be a penalty that activates when a player of match is taking too long. The players will then have to get rid of each other in a hurry.
When a certain amount of time is given to the player to reach a goal or finish an objective.
Players compete against the clock to secure the fastest time possible. This is often added to racing games for extra replay value and typically requires a higher degree of skill.
