I recently bought Crysis 2 after playing the first Crysis and been playing since. The game introduces some interesting game mechanics that others do not have, which are all unique but are used together throughout the game in a interesting way which will separate this game from others.
Now in this sequel, instead of being on a crazy lush jungle filled with Koreans, you are in New York, or an urban jungle. eh. A new idea which did work out for them. You start of the game with a great cut scene which i will not spoil here, also better to have played the first one to catch certain things in the story. You then do a decent length tutorial which was helpful for showing you all the game mechanics at certain points instead of giving it to you all at once. This was a good idea since you wont get confused about how to play and makes it easier to get through the beginning. I rather enjoyed the story and was entertained through the whole game but got annoyed by certain points where your about to leave an area, something epic happens, and then you gotta go back, its kind of a pet peeve of mine which i wish they didn't do in this game. other than that the voice work was decent, no awards for them but they weren't too bad where you'll want to laugh the whole time while they speak.
Now this is Crysis and they were originally known for being the best looking game of 2007. this isn't a crazy step up for PC gamers to boost up there PC but is still an amazing looking game on the consoles. if you never had a great PC, like me, you'll never know what to compare with from this to the original but this game looks amazing anyways, with its nice light blooms, sound effects, which weren't amazing to me, but they were passable, they just didn't have a strong punch or kick to them in my opinion. But compared to other console games, its amazing, i may think its up to par with some newer games coming out, such as Killzone 3 and a few others, but you wont be disappointed in it,
Then you are playing the game, which lasted about 6 and a half hours for me, which is average now a days for most shooters, but could take longer if you don't know how to play well with the mechanics, which is probably why some people said it may take up to 12 hours, which may be so if they are on the hardest difficulty and looking for some easter eggs and collect-ables, which there are plenty of. the game also through in some aliens called Ceph . They where from there first as well and were rather smarter than the human A.I but neither performed too well while being in some enclosed places, which is about a quarter of the game, and the game also gets very easy toward the end when you upgrade the weapons and your suit skills. You get weapon upgrades by finding them as you play through the game and you obtain suit skills by spending points by killing the Ceph . Most likely you'll be able to get all the upgrades by the end.
And then there is the game mechanic which isn't too necessary to talk about but its basically a binocular which is kind of like the one used on the original, but more improved, you can tag enemies, ammo, guns, special objectives for you too see in you HUD which could come in handy, but i didn't notice you could tag objectives till the end of the game, but you should really use to tag everything you see in the game when you are in this view.
Also there was a decent amount of weapons to chose trough, but you'll get favorites quickly, probably only use the sniper in the few parts when the game said "hey, you should sniper here." also there is a few guns that are extremely effective against the Ceph call the microwave gun which i really enjoyed. i also found there to be a good amount of ammo in the game too so you wont need to experiment too much. Then you'll see the Ceph shooting special guns which would've been nice if we could've used them too, but they may have been attached to them, i don't know.
I can't go to much into the multi-player since i only played about 2 hours of the demo and maybe 2 games in the full retail version. They pull off the basic call of duty things but they pull it off well enough that you will enjoy playing this more than an hour and is a fun time if you can chain your suit powers together. they also do killstreaks but they are map specific and they can only be earned by killing an enemy and by picking up there dog tags to get a point to earn it.
