An adventure game created by Yuji Horii and published by Enix in 1983 where the player controls a detective solving a murder mystery. The title helped establish the template for the Japanese adventure genre, which many other titles would imitate and build upon.
One of the first Laserdisc games, made in 1982 and using technology pioneered by SEGA. Following its 1982 debut, it was released in Japan in May 1983 and worldwide several months later.
Work your way around mazes to help Cookie Monster find what he loves to munch the most.
Initially released as just "Pac-Man", it was re-released with a new name and cover art to avoid legal troubles.
Control Jumpman (later known as Mario) and save his girlfriend, Pauline, from the evil barrel-tossing gorilla known as Donkey Kong. Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, this was the game that set the template for the platformer genre.
One of the most popular arcade games of all time, Pac-Man was released in arcades in 1980 and became a pop culture icon for the decade.
1979 arcade shooter by Nintendo where the player must fight sixteen surrounding desperadoes. A precursor to Donkey Kong, it was designed by Genyo Takeda, with assistance from Shigeru Miyamoto, working on his first video game. Possibly the first run & gun shooter, it also introduced the damsel-in-distress trope to gaming as well as continuous background music.
Originally called Space Invaders Part II in Japan, this is the first sequel to the coin-munching hit Space Invaders. This game is notable for introducing the concept of a cut-scene.
A cinematic action-racing arcade game released by Kasco in the 1970's. It consisted of pre-filmed situations recorded on 16 mm film that required the player to match their steering wheel, gas pedal and brakes with the movements shown on screen.
Wild Gunman is a light gun shooter by Nintendo. There were two versions of the game: a 1974 FMV arcade game, and later a 1984 NES game developed by Intelligent Systems; the latter uses the NES Zapper to draw, aim and shoot the opponent.
Rise of Dragonian Era is an MMORPG hosted by Netgame. It features faction-based PvP and dragon pets which can eventually become flying mounts.
A crowd-funded horror game currently in development for the Wii U and PC, Shadow of the Eternals is being lead by Denis Dyack and is the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.
An ambitious anime-styled sandbox MMORPG from veteran Korean developer Nexon, with an emphasis on user-generated content. Players can not only craft towns, but also entire quest-lines where the quest-builder wins if the questers fail and vice versa. The game was eventually cancelled after being in development for 8 years.
A prequel to the grid-based, dungeon crawler RPG Vaporum.
