Deus Ex: Human Revolution Appears To Be In Good Hands
You know you're a real Deus Ex fan when the very mention of the name Tong makes you stop reading and go "...Tong?" out loud suspiciously.
Wish they would stick to First person perspective, it breaks the immersion for me...
And hope it has more of a "world" feel and not just straight forward levels?!
But it definitely sounds interesting.
seriously, why is everyone ragging on invisible war? it was/is a good game! don't compare it to dues ex one, their different games...
Man, I hope so. I played the hell out of both of them. The second one wasn't as good, sure, but it was the only place to get that similar flavor.
That first picture is giving me hope.
Invisible War was hated for exactly the same reasons that ME2 was adored years later: By stripping back unnecessary and ugly gameplay elements, Deus Ex 2 provided a more streamlined game that retained its predecessors versatility.
The gameworld was fantastic, characters just as interesting as in the first and the story was captivating.
So... why the hate, fellas?
Edit: That said, I really fucking hate the way ammo is handled in that game.
There's a club in Edinburgh called The Hive, but I'm fairly certain no one there has robotic arms...
Cant wait for this game!

"The environments were tiny with frequent load times because of concessions made to the XBox's limited RAM, the combat was incredibly unsatisfying, the main character was boring, everyone else was just as boring and the plot was entirely uncompelling.
So... this is a a prequel to the original Deus Ex? Is it just me? Or does the game look a little more futuristic and more hi-tech than the first Deus Ex?

Because they also, mabe even by doing some of those things, stripped the personality right out of the game. Deus Ex 2 came off as a competent but uninspired collection of story missions and such, with a few hi points . It was like they were not able to carry off the continuation of the story.
I was also thinking of the critism here of the developer not mentioning Deus Ex 2, and that struck me as so-what. Why should the developer, and was he ever asked? It doesn't mean anything beyond focus of source material.Futhormore, i hope we do not see one more underpopulated world like ME2, that drives me nuts. Even in a game like ME2 that can carry it.
The technical issues with Invisible War were what bothered me most.Tiny environments, frequent loads, but the rest of it I thought was okay. Not as good as the original, but not much is.
Hoping they don't totally overdesign the game and lose the human element that made the first so great, as being a mech in world where you don't really stand out will dull down the whole 'you're the first of your kind' edge they seemed to be going for.
I'm still very unsure about the stealth takedown cutscene stuff. Stealth gameplay to me (and in Deus Ex) means to get through a room without being seen, only using force (lethal or nonlethal) if absolutely necessary. "Rewarding" your stealth with a multikill takedown seems the total opposite of that.
I got to see some gameplay footage. From what I saw it looks like a game that should be played in 3rd person not first. It also seems rough around the edges when it comes to graphics.
Very well put! The "four pillar" statement sounded weird to me too since it's too vague, unrelated to the glory of DX1 and applicable to games that don't handle specialization systems for player customization well at all.
I don't even hate IW as much as others apparently do, but it is by no means satisfactory as a "true" DX title and I most certainly don't need another game of the franchise going into that direction.
I'm absolutely trying to stay positive, I'm just very afraid that there's almost no damn point to satisfy some silly "hardcore fanbase" minority instead of developing a title with mass appeal, like Splinter Cell, that makes them stupid amounts of money.
All that being said: I could really go for a splendid, old-school Deus Ex game just about now. So far only Vampire: Bloodlines seemed to come somewhat close as far as I'm aware and open-world leveldesign and customization is concerned...
I was EXTREMELY sceptical before the release of Invisible War. Turns out I was right, that game sucked. This time, i'm kinda feeling it. I don't know why exactly, just the look of it, the music, I just feel like these guys actually WANT to do something special and at least as good as Deus Ex 1.
I think some people may want Human Revolution to play exactly like the first one (hence the complaints about third person and the shooting being... not terrible), but realisticaly that's never gonna happen. That style of gaming is long gone.
That doesn't mean they can't capture the same depth in their own mechanics.
" I can't think of a long-absent franchise with a more devoted fanbase than this one,"
I bet us Shenmue fans could give them a run for their money!
" I'm still worried it will be Japanified by Square. The fact that in the interview the word "mecha" was used is not a good sign. "Mecha have been part of Deus Ex since the very first game, there's some obvious Ghost in The Shell influences on the design of the vehicles, but that's alright, as Ghost In The Shell's mechanical design is awesome.
So i never picked up any deus ex game but reading this article and seeing the trailer has peaked my interest. So is Deus Ex one of those "must play" games around?
Guy is right on one thing. usually when company gets bought everybody is full of crap; how they are all delighted and other kiss ass stuff but not this time. like man said, its fraking Square-Enix bitches. It is awesome they are working with them...
Watched the trailer again for the 3rd time.. alos loving the low electronic beat, march 2011 you can't come soon enough, also don't be shit.

YO!!!
Today marks the 10th annniversary of the originals release. To celebrate Steam is offering Deus Ex for $2.50 or both titles for $5! TODAY ONLY!
Yes, the graphics are a bit dated but the games hold up pretty well. At these prices it's hard to say no though.
I'm excited for this game, sounds really cool but the one thing that I am uncertain about is the conversation system. Why do the whole "this is your general tone" approach? I like my old fashioned full text choices please. If it aint broke, do not fix it.
